SUMMARY STATEMENT

The attached resolution orders a Special Election to be held on Saturday May 10, 2008,
to allow voters to vote on a proposition on whether to adopt the fire fighters' and police
officers' civil service law.
The Special Election will be held in conjunction with, and on the same schedule as, the
city's General Election.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
The city clerk recommends approval of the resolution calling the special election on
May 10,2008.

A RESOLUTION ORDERING THAT A SPECIAL ELECTION BE HELD ON
MAY 10,2008, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING THE PROPOSITION
TO THE VOTERS OF WHETHERTO ADOPT THE FIRE FIGHTERS' AND
POLICE OFFICERS' CIVIL SERVICE LAW
WHEREAS, in accordance with Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code, the City
received a petition requesting an election as to the question of whether the fire fighters' and police
officers' civil service law should be adopted by the City of Kerrville, Texas; and
WHEREAS, on February 12, 2008, the City Council accepted the City Clerk's ruling of
sufficiency on the petition to place this proposition on the ballot; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF KERRVILLE, KERR COUNTY, TEXAS:
SECTION ONE. A Special Election shall be held in the City of Kerrville, Texas, on the 10'
day of May 2008 for the purpose of voting on a proposition of whether to adopt the fire fighters' and
police officers' civil service law, pursuant to Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code.
SECTION TWO. The ballot for said special election shall be as follows:

SECTION THREE. The method of voting shall be by the Hart Voting System, which is an
electronic touch screen voting system.
SECTION FOUR. The municipal polling place for such election shall be the Kathleen C.
Cailloux City Center of the Performing Arts, 910 Main Street, Kerrville, Texas, 78028.
SECTION FIVE. On election day, the polls shall be open from 7:00 A M to 7:00 PM. Early
voting shall be conducted at the Kathleen C. Cailloux City Center of the Performing Arts, 910 Main
Street, Kerrville, Texas, 78028, April 28'h through May lst,and on ~a~ 6thfrom 8 A M to 5:00 PM and
on May 2ndand May 5Ih fkom 7:00 A M to 7:00 PM.
SECTION SIX. Applications for ballot by mail shall be addressed to: Brenda G. Craig,
Early Voting Clerk, 800 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas, 78028, and must be received no later
than 5:00 PM on May 2,2008.
SECTION SEVEN. City Council will conduct the official canvass of the election at a
special meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, beginning at 10:OO A M in the Council Chambers, City
Hall, 800 Junction Highway.

CONSIDERANDO QUE, de acuerdo con el Capitulo 143 del Codigo del Gobierno
Local de Texas, la Ciudad recibio una petici6n que solicitaba una elecci6n en cuanto a la
cuesti6n de si la ley del servicio civil de 10s bomberos y de 10s policias se deba adoptar por la
Ciudad de Kerrville, Texas; y
CONSIDERANDO QUE, el 12 de febrero de 2008, el Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad
acept6 la decision de la Oficinista Municipal de la suficiencia en la petici6n para poner este
asunto en la balota; y
AHORA, POR LO TANTO, SEA RESUELTO POR EL AYUNTAMIENTO DE LA
CIUDAD DE KERRVILLE, CONDADO DE KERR, TEXAS:
SECCION UNA. Una Eleccibn Especial se tendra en la Ciudad de Kerrville, Texas, el
1Omo dia de mayo de 2008 con el prop6sito de votar en la petici6n para adoptar la ley del
servicio civil de 10s bomberos y de 10s policias, conforme a1 Capitulo 143 del C6digo del
Gobierno Local de Texas.
SECCION DOS. La balota para dicha eleccion especial sera como sigue:
