Será la quinta participación consecutiva en el Tour
de Francia para un Imanol Erviti tan fiable en 2014
como en todas sus campañas anteriores. Ya parte
de la guardia de Alejandro Valverde en dos de sus
éxitos de esta temporada -Andalucía y las clásicas de las Ardenas-, el navarro fue uno de los
tres ciclistas del WorldTour que más pruebas
de un día cubrió en la primavera, y aprovechó después en el Critérium du Dauphiné la ausencia de un
líder claro en Movistar Team para explotar su mejor
faceta más allá del trabajo de equipo: las fugas.

It will be the fifth consecutive appearance in the Tour de
France for Imanol Erviti, as ever-consistent in 2014 as
he has always been in previous seasons. Already part of
Alejandro Valverde’s guard in two of the Spaniard’s successes this year -the Vuelta a Andalucía and the Ardennes
classics-, the Pamplona-born rider was one of the three
WorldTour riders with most spring classics participations.
He later profited from the lack of a main GC leader in the
Critérium du Dauphiné roster to exploit his best ability
when he’s not in charge of driving the Blue train up-front:
breakaways in no matter flat or mountainous stages.

que Movistar Team tenga un francés en su alineación
de la Grande Boucle por primera vez con su actual
sponsor. Alejandro Valverde precisará a buen seguro de la mejor versión de un hombre que luce en
su palmarés el podio en otra grande, el Giro de
2011, y que estuvo especialmente fino en
el último Tour al acercarse los últimos días (fue 8º en Semnoz).

John Gadret’s regularity throughout the season -top-30
finishes in WorldTour stageraces like Paris-Nice, the Vuelta al País Vasco- and most importantly his good results
in the final weekend of the Critérium du Dauphiné have
led the Movistar Team to include one French rider in
their Grande Boucle selection for the very first time since
Telefónica took over title sponsorship rights. Much needed will be his help for Alejandro Valverde, the man from
Épernay having taken a podium finish in the 2011 Giro
and performer increasingly well in the 2013 TdF finale -he
finished in 8th spot in Semnoz, on stage 20-.

Por la puerta grande. Tras ser dos veces incluido como reserva para la Vuelta a España
y después de un proceso de maduración que
le llevó hace doce meses a lo más alto del Nacional de Bembibre, Jesús Herrada debuta en una
grande con su primer Tour. El conquense adquirió
por un lado su derecho y por el otro la confianza en
sus posibilidades tras la enorme progresión evidenciada en Romandía, donde brilló en montaña y en crono y rozó un parcial que sí conquistó en la Route du
Sud. Su único objetivo en Francia: aprender y ayudar.

Through the main gate. After getting twice to a reserve
spot for the Vuelta, and following a maduration process
which saw him reaching the highest cotes in the Spanish National championships held last year in Bembibre,
Jesús Herrada will be making his Grand Tour debut right
in the Tour de France. The man from Mota del Cuervo near
Cuenca earned his Grande Boucle rights and boosted his
own motivation with enormous progression proven in Romandie, where he shone in all mountains, TT and sprints,
coming close to a stage win he snatched in the Route du
Sud. His only goal here: learning and helping out.

Después de dejar atrás felizmente el gran susto
que supuso su caída y posterior abandono en
el Critérium du Dauphiné, Beñat Intxausti aspira a alcanzar París por primera vez tras verse obligado al abandono en su debut hace tres
años. Junto con otro vasco, Ion Izagirre, suya
será la responsabilidad de llegar lo más lejos
posible en la montaña en beneficio de su jefe
de filas, Alejandro Valverde. Buenas actuaciones, como el 6º puesto en Romandía, jalonan
el 2014 de una de las más firmes realidades azules.

After leaving behind with success what started as a big
fright in mid June, crashing out of the Critérium du Dauphiné with a sore shoulder but suffering no fractures,
Beñat Intxausti will try to ride all the way to Paris after his
infructuous debut three years ago. Together with another
Basque rider, Ion Izagirre, his will be the responsibility of
taking care of Alejandro Valverde as far as possible in the
big mountains. It’s been a 2014 of good performances so
far for one of the biggest realities in the Blue roster, including a 6th place in the Tour de Romandie after taking
fifth in the closing time trial.

El título nacional de fondo ha coronado un 2014 regular y consistente para el pequeño de la saga Izagirre.
Especialmente destacado en las contrarreloj -plata en
Ponferrada; al borde del podio en las generales de Andalucía y Romandía gracias a las cronometradas-, Ion
será uno de los principales apoyos, si no el fundamental, para su jefe de filas en montaña. Sólo una gran
acumulación de esfuerzos y el calor en el último fin de
semana de Suiza, prueba en la que también rozaba el
podio, impidieron otro resultado de postín camino a
su segunda Grande Boucle.

The Spanish road race title crowned an already regular,
consistent 2014 season so far for the younger of the two
Izagirre brothers. Especially remarkable in TT’s -silver
medalist in Ponferrada, close to overall podiums in both
Andalucía and Romandie thanks to them-, Ion will be an
important helper, if not fundamental, for his team leader
in the mountains. Only a big accumulation of efforts and
heat over the last weekend of the Tour de Suisse, where
he was also near to a GC podium, avoided the Basque
allrounder getting another top result en route to his 2nd
Grande Boucle appearance.

Cuatro años después de un brillante debut en el Tour
-a sólo un escalón del top-ten final-, Rubén Plaza es
parte ya de la columna vertebral y grupo imprescindible de apoyo a Alejandro Valverde. Su enorme experiencia y categoría le han permitido en estos años reconvertirse sin ninguna dificultad al papel de gregario
de lujo, que ejerce tanto en el llano como en la montaña. Puede tirar del carro o ser peón estratégico en los
movimientos que propongan sus directores, algo que

Four years after a brilliant debut in the Tour -just one step
off the overall top ten-, Rubén Plaza has become an indispensable part of Alejandro Valverde’s support in every
Grande Boucle. His enormous experience and individual
abilities have allowed the Ibi-born rider taking a seamless
transition towards domestique roles, which he applies in
both the flat and the mountains. He’s able to pull at the
front of the bunch or make it into crucial breakaways
when the race strategy advises for it - he’s proven that
many times, including his important help in Valverde’s
win in Peyragudes two years ago.

Despite the two injuries suffered in the first three months
of the season, it was one of the most successful years in
the pro scene for José Joaquín Rojas, including a stage win
-25 months later- in Castilla y León, a fine fourth place
overall in Paris-Nice and 16 top-ten results in just 31 days
of competition. Still, the Spaniard will line up for his sixth
Tour de France far from aspirations sustained in previous
appearances -it’s still hard to forget his marvellous fight
for the maillot vert in 2011-, more focused -as his teammates will be- on helping out his countryman and friend

“Creo que he acertado”, fueron las palabras de Alejandro Valverde a la conclusión de la Route du Sud,
el camino alternativo que, unido al reconocimiento de
algunas de las etapas del Tour, eligió en junio el crack
murciano en lugar de Dauphiné o Suiza. En general,
todo el 2014 del líder de Movistar Team ha estado
encaminado a llegar fresco y bien preparado al verano: sólo 32 días de competición, con apenas cuatro
vueltas por etapas... pero con nada menos que nueve
triunfos, incluida su cuarta muesca en las Ardenas -la
Flecha Valona- y el Nacional contrarreloj.

“I think I made a wise decision,” were the words by Alejandro Valverde at the end of the Route du Sud, the alternate route which the Spaniard chose -combined with a
recon of some stages of the Tour- instead of the Critérium
du Dauphiné or the Tour de Suisse. In general, the 2014
schedule of the Movistar Team’s leader was focused on
reaching the summer fresh and well prepared: just 32
days of competition prior to the start in Leeds, with only
four stageraces... yet with no less than nine victories, including his fourth career success in the Ardennes classics
with the Flèche Wallonne and the Spanish ITT champs.

el primer día de competición de 2014 en Australia
obligó al italiano a una larga recuperación: casi tres
meses sin ponerse un dorsal, dos más hasta alcanzar
el notable nivel físico exhibido con su 4ª plaza en el
Campeonato de Italia. Ese mismo obstáculo ocasiona
que el tres veces tricolore llegue a la Grande Boucle
fresco en el aspecto fisico, fuerte en lo mental y con
mucha voluntad de adquirir protagonismo en dos
frentes distintos: poniéndose a disposición de
Alejandro Valverde o buscando sus opciones.
