Scripture Insights
Today, reading helps us to consider the blessings that come when we enjoy the presence of
Jesus and his Mother, Mary, in the midst of human events, such as the one we are contemplating: «There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus
was also invited to the wedding with his disciples» (Jn 2:1-2). With differing degrees of
power, Jesus and Mary call us into the presence of God wherever they are, and, where God
is, there is found love, grace, and wonders, because God is goodness, truth, beauty, all in
abundance. At sunrise, the darkness of night is driven away, and the earth is warmed. Thereby, life is encouraged and nourished, making both human existence and nature fruitful. Similarly, when we allow God to arise in our hearts, we know the blessings of peace and happiness, even when we have been unreceptive or spiritually asleep. Jesus Christ is sent by God
to be present with us, and to communicate with us in divinely profound ways. God's deeds
enter our hearts through Jesus Christ's humanity, and through Mary's presence, and the results are as surprising and pleasant as the experience of the host who did not know who he
had invited to the wedding, but who, nevertheless, received unexpected blessings from the
presence of Mary and Jesus, an invitation that might have been due to ties of kinship or
friendship.
Before He changed the water into wine, Jesus had not performed any miracles, and there
were few who really knew who He was or the significance of His mission. He went to the
wedding because He is in favour of intimate human relationships, and because the integrity
and devotion of the family attracted him. By his attendance, Jesus introduced God into what
otherwise was an unremarkable family celebration. «This miraculous sign was the first, and
Jesus performed it at Cana in Galilee» (Jn 2:11) and it was also there where the Messiah
«opened his disciples' hearts to the faith, thanks to Mary, the first believer» (John Paul II).
Let us, by exercising our faith, move closer to this example of the human behavior of Jesus,
thus coming to know and imitate his human dimension as far as we can, learning to love
more and more, as we listen to his word, ever growing in faith and trust, until we come to see
the face of the Father in him.

Hoy en día, la lectura nos ayuda a considerar las bendiciones que vienen cuando
disfrutamos de la presencia de Jesús y de su Madre, María, en medio de los acontecimientos humanos, como el que estamos contemplando: «Había una boda en Caná de Galilea. y
la madre de Jesús estaba allí. Jesús también fue invitado a la boda con sus discípulos »(Jn
2, 1-2). Con diferentes grados de poder, Jesús y María nos ponen en la presencia de Dios
donde quiera que estén, y, en su Dios, allí se encuentra el amor, la gracia y maravillas,
porque Dios es la bondad, la verdad, la belleza, todo en abundancia. Al amanecer, la oscuridad de la noche es lanzado, y la tierra se calienta. De esta manera, la vida se fomenta y
alimenta, por lo tanto la existencia humana y la naturaleza fructífera. Del mismo modo,
cuando permitimos a Dios que surgen en nuestros corazones, sabemos que las bendiciones
de la paz y la felicidad, aun cuando hemos sido poco receptivo o espiritualmente dormido.
Jesucristo es enviado por Dios para estar presente con nosotros, y para comunicarse con
nosotros en la divinidad de manera profunda. Obras de Dios entran en nuestros corazones a
través de la humanidad de Jesucristo, y por medio de la presencia de María, y los resultados
son tan sorprendentes y más agradable la experiencia del huésped que no sabía que había
invitado a la boda, pero que, sin embargo, recibió bendiciones inesperadas de la presencia
de María y Jesús, una invitación que podría haber sido debido a los lazos de parentesco o
amistad. Antes de Él cambió el agua en vino, Jesús no se había realizado ningún milagro, y
no eran pocos los que realmente sabía quién era o de la importancia de su misión. Se fue a
la boda porque él está a favor de las relaciones humanas íntimas, y debido a la integridad y
la devoción de la familia le atrajeron. Por su asistencia, Jesús introdujo a Dios en lo que por
lo demás era una celebración familiar sin complicaciones. «Esta señal milagrosa fue la primera, y Jesús lo realizó en Caná de Galilea» (Jn 2,11) y también fue allí donde el Mesías
«abrió los corazones de sus discípulos a la fe gracias a María, la primera creyente» ( Juan
Pablo II). Vamos, mediante el ejercicio de nuestra fe, acercamos a este ejemplo de la conducta humana de Jesús, viniendo así a conocer e imitar su dimensión humana en la medida
de nuestras posibilidades, aprender a amar cada vez más, mientras escuchamos su palabra,
jamás crecer en la fe y la confianza, hasta que lleguemos a ver el rostro del Padre en él.
