Special Second Collection Next Weekend:
St. Patrick’s Seminary and University
There will be a second collection at all Masses next
weekend for the support of St. Patrick’s Seminary and
University in Menlo Park. The mission of our Archdiocesan Seminary is the initial and ongoing formation of
priests especially for the Archdiocese of San Francisco
and for other Dioceses in the Western United States and
the Pacific Rim. Dedicated by Archbishop Riordan in
1898, St. Patrick’s is blessed with a near-capacity
enrollment of men preparing for priesthood. Through
the Vatican II Institute for Clergy Formation, the
Seminary also offers an array of highly respected
programs for the renewal and support of priests after
ordination.
St. Patrick’s relies upon the generosity of its
benefactors and the parishioners that its seminarians
will one day serve as priests in order to provide its
quality program of priestly formation. Please be generous in your support for our Archdiocesan Seminary.
Envelopes and fliers are available on the shelves
at the entrance of the Cathedral.

Anointing of Catechumens
January 22, 2012
11:00 a.m.
The anointing with oil symbolizes the need of the
Catechumens for God’s help and strength. This anointing is given so that, nothing will keep them from taking
the steps necessary to profess their faith and continue to
hold onto their trust in God throughout their lives.
The oil used for this rite is the oil blessed by the
Archbishop at the Chrism Mass. It is one of three oil’s
blessed; the Oil of the Catechumens, Oil of the Sick and
Sacred Chrism, a fragrant oil used for anointing at
baptism, confirmation and the ordination of priests and
bishops. This year’s chrism Mass will be celebrated on
Thursday, March 29, 5:30 p.m., all are invited to attend.

New Online Program for Adult Faith
Formation Offered at Parishes
The Archdiocese of San Francisco is offering an exciting
new program called FORWARD IN FAITH, in collaboration with Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, designed to deepen knowledge and love of the Catholic faith in order to grow in knowledge of God. Beginning
with the week of January 17th, twelve parish locations in
the Archdiocese will host men and women from
neighboring parishes for weekly sessions that will provide online lectures from many of the leading Catholic
theologians in the United States, followed by small group
discussions focused on the theme of the evening. FORWARD IN FAITH, which will consist of ten sessions during January, February and March and ten sessions in September, October and November, will treat four topics; the
Jesus whom we encounter in the Scriptures, the identity
of the Church, the sacramental life of the Church and the
Christian moral life. For more information on this bold
initiative in deepening adult Catholic faith and how to
sign up for it, go to FORWARD IN FAITH at
