The mission of our Archdiocesan Seminary is the initial and ongoing formation of priests especially for the Archdiocese of San Francisco and for other Dioceses in the Western United States and the Pacific Rim. Dedicated by Archbishop Riordan in 1898, St. Patrick’s is blessed with a near-capacity enrollment of men preparing for priesthood. Through the Vatican II Institute for Clergy Formation, the Seminary also offers an array of highly respected programs for the renewal and support of priests after ordination. St. Patrick’s relies upon the generosity of its benefactors and the parishioners that its seminarians will one day serve as priests in order to provide its quality program of priestly formation. This anointing is given so that, nothing will keep them from taking the steps necessary to profess their faith and continue to hold onto their trust in God throughout their lives. The oil used for this rite is the oil blessed by the Archbishop at the Chrism Mass. It is one of three oil’s blessed; the Oil of the Catechumens, Oil of the Sick and Sacred Chrism, a fragrant oil used for anointing at baptism, confirmation and the ordination of priests and bishops. This year’s chrism Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 29, 5:30 p.m., all are invited to attend.
