BOARD MEMBERS
We are committed to offering support to oncology families so they feel less isolated, frustrated and fearful in dealing with
the problems that cancer can manifest within the family structure. By the age of 20, one child or teen in 330 is diagnosed
in the United States. More children die of cancer than of any other disease, including asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis,
congenital anomalies and AIDS, COMBINED.

Quarter-Rama
Childhood Cancer Foundation introduced a new, fun fundraising event in 2013 – The QuarterRama – a quarter
auction fundraiser that has raised nearly $5,000 benefiting children who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Brand new products were auctioned for just quarters. Participants were given auction paddles, allowing them
to bid 1, 2, 3, or 4 quarters max on the items they wanted. A bid of quarters was announced for each item and
participants placed their bids in a jar on the table and raised their paddles. Numbers were drawn and called, and
many went home with amazing items.
This year we held our fourth event that included generously donated items by Wells Fargo - Heather Bortolamedi,
Young Living Essential Oils – Misty Bradley, Tupperware – Karen Dallin, Jewels by Park Lane – Mertha Gabriel,
Miche Bag – Kim Rodriguez, Cookie Lee – Angie Lynch, Origami Owl – Heather Bortolamedi, Pink Zebra – Mindy
Dockum, Cherry Valley Nursery, Brenda Ebrahim, Gina Colby and Lisa Bates. All of our guests had a wonderful time
and went home with fabulous items. Thank you to our volunteers, your generosity is invaluable!
Quarter-Rama
Living Essential Oils – Misty Bradley, Tupperware – Karen Dallin, Jewels by Park Lane – Mertha Gabriel, Miche Bag

but the experience was amazing.
Thank you to the Los Angeles Dodgers for their continued support of our very special families!

Hair Cut-A-Thon
More than 50 participants joined Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California for the 2015 Hair Cut-AThon event at the Riverside City College Cosmetology School on May 16th. Haircuts, head shaves, manicures and
face painting was available for a minimal donation. Avery, Jade, Fatima, and Lorraine are all cancer survivors
who joined the event to assist in shaving heads and cutting 12-inch hair donations.
Jade was more than excited to work the clippers and shave Michael Cook’s head. Cook, a Fort Irwin Firefighter,
planted the seed for this event and fundraiser by calling Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California
in 2005 and offering to have his head shaved by a child with cancer to show his support of all those fighting
this disease.
CCFSC raised over $1,700 and collected 23 foot-long donations that were sent in to Wigs for Kids, an organization
dedicated to providing wigs for children with cancer. Throughout the years, the group has collected more than
275 such donations with the support of the community. Thank you to Michael Cook, the Riverside City College
Cosmetology School, and all our volunteers for their support of this amazing event!

Overnight Camp
Teen Connection enjoyed an overnight stay in nature during its 3rd Overnight Tent Camp at
Hidden Hollow in the Oak Glen Preserve. The preserve is adjacent to the steep escarpments of
Yucaipa Ridge in the San Bernardino National Forest. Teen Connection arrived early morning
on Saturday to set-up camp then soon prepared lunch and headed out to the wilderness. The
group set out on a hike through the hills where they ended with a fresh apple treat at Los Rios
Rancho. Then the heat led them to cool off with some water gun fun as they got back to camp.
The day ended at the campsite for games, a campfire and some hot chocolate. Thank you to the
Wildlands Conservency Oak Glen Preserve for allowing us this fun opportunity. A special thank
you to Kristin Kersey for joining Teen Connection on this adventure in the wilderness, as well as
Bernie Kersey for his provision of all the camp gear and help with camp setup and tear down.
Campamento
