In 2004 their convent was re-founded on the Brooklyn-Queens border in the Carmelite Monastery of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Joseph at 341 Highland Boulevard (Vito Battista Blvd), Brooklyn 11207. Their annual novena for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel runs from Monday July 8 to Tuesday July 16, the actual feast of OLMC. This is a unique opportunity for the public to share in the prayer life of the cloistered sisters. Here's the schedule: 7:15 Rosary; 7:30 Mass; after Mass: Novena Prayers. Mass celebrated on the last night by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Please feel to join the sisters at the monastery during this novena. Their monastery is a few blocks from the Van Siclen Avenue station on the J & Z train line, and from the Fulton Street bus line; just off the Vermont Place exit of the Jackie Robinson Parkway. For those who cannot travel to Brooklyn, we will also celebrate a bi-lingual Mass here in our own parish at 7:30 PM for our patronal feast on Tuesday, July 16. We all still lament the death of our beloved pastor emeritus, Fr. Frank Lynch, who died suddenly this past April. We have been distributing his personal effects to his family and friends, and recently discovered a stash of old vinyl records from the 1940s & ‘50s that belonged to Fr Lynch’s parents who were Irish immigrants. Rather than throw them away, we did a little research with the help of parishioner Mrs Julia Cleere Anastasio, and discovered that the Glucksman Ireland House of NYU accepts such donations for their archival records. If anyone else has old-time Irish music recordings they’d like to donate for this research institution, please let me know. I hope to bring them to NYU the week of July 15. Finally, we are grateful to those who have memorialized the matching sets of dalmatics we recently purchased for the use of our parish deacons. They are listed at the bottom of this letter; please remember to pray for their intentions. God Loves You Msgr. Dios Les Cuida Msgr. Ogle Parish Bulletin Board Prayer of the Week SPECIAL ACT OF SORROW Forgive me my sins, O Lord, Forgive me my sins; the sins of my youth, the sins of my age, the sins of my soul, the sins of my body; my idle sins, serious voluntary sins, the sins I know, the sins I have concealed so long, and which are now hidden from my memory. I’m truly sorry for every sin, mortal and venial, for all the sins of my childhood up to the present hour. I know my sins have wounded Thy tender Heart, O my Saviour, let me be freed from the bonds of evil through the most bitter passion of my Redeemer. O my Jesus, forget and forgive what I have been. PARISH BULLETIN BOARD The Year of Faith logo is composed of a square, bordered field on which a boat, symbolizing the Church, is represented as sailing on a graphically minimal representation of waves. The main mast of the boat is a cross from which sails are displayed in the form of dynamic signs which compose the trigram of Christ (IHS). The background to the sails is a sun which, associated with the trigram, refers also to the Eucharist. The Carmelite Coat of Arms features a stylized shield whose colors are symbols of the religious habit of the Carmelites. Its peaked inner section represents the Holy Land’s Mount Carmel itself. The center star represents Mary, the Mother and Beauty of Carmel; and the side stars, the Prophet Elijah and his disciple Elisha, whose works are associated with that place.
