Preoperative care
Tremendous differences: Anesthetic regimens varied greatly; generally, local anesthesia was used alone or
in combination with anxiolytic medications and monitored anesthesia care (Lidocaine
0.5% to 1% or 0.25% bupivacaine in combination with 1:50,000 to 1:200,000 epinephrine)
Postoperative care
Varied greatly. Either topical (erythromycin, polymyxin B, bacitracin) or oral antibiotics (first-generation
cephalosporins, clindamycin for patients with penicillin allergies).
Avoidance of bathtubs and sexual activity from 40 days up to 2 months. Topical iodine and potassium
permanganate baths were used.
Meticulous perineal hygiene and dressing with a sterile pad, antiinflammatory drugs and other analgesics,
and ice pads for postoperative pain and inflammation
Complications (2-7%)
Dehiscence, hematoma formation, hematoma, flap necrosis (for wedge resection), discomfort, visible
scarring, superficial infections, underresection, and overresection. Suture granulomas, fistula formation, and
a clitoral hood dogear
Satisfaction
Patient satisfaction rates for each technique ranged from 94 to 100 %
The primary goal of the operation is to attain minimal or no protrusion of the labia minora beyond the labia majora when
the patient is standing

I agree with the authors’ concept of the proposed classification system of labial length.
However, the term “deformity” as a description of the labial length should perhaps be replaced with
length variation.
There already exists pressure from the media for women to achieve a prepubescent appearance with little
or no labia minora show.
Variable labial length and asymmetry is normal female anatomy, and describing labial length as a deformity
seems misleading.
Just as there is no aesthetic standard of “normal” breast or penis size,
we must be careful not to create a “gold standard” of ideal labial length
and vulvar appearance.

FELICIO 2007: 1º described the labia majora labioplasty
• Remove predetermined amount of labia majora skin with fat layer.
•Suture line is interrupted absorbable stitches and is hidden in the creases (between bases of Lm and LM).
Technique
• Mark the lateral parts of inner labia vertically, starting from clitoral hood level, down to posterior
fourchette in a elliptic shape. Use measurement if needed. Elliptic part of the marking would be at the
lateral sides.
• Cut the borders of marked area and remove the skin by dissection.
• Hemostasis by electrocautery
• Close the sub skin by 4/0 vicryl rapide or monocryl and skin by 5/0 vicryl rapide or monocryl as at
least 2 layers.
• Provide incision hidden.
