From The Parish Nurse May Is Skin Cancer Awar eness Month Cathedral Cares About Your Health. Skin
cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United
States. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the
main cause of skin cancer. UV radiation can also come
from tanning booths or sunlamps. The most dangerous
kind of skin cancer is called melanoma. Skin cancer can
almost always be cured when it’s found and treated early. Communities, health professionals, and families can
work together to prevent skin cancer or detect it early
on. Make a difference: Spread the word about strategies
for preventing skin cancer and encourage communities,
organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.
How can Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month make a difference? We can use this
month to raise awareness about skin cancer and help
people take action to prevent or detect it, both at home
and in the community. Here are just a few ideas: Encourage families and parents to adopt good habits together, like wearing sunscreen, use an umbrella at the
beach put a hat on your children when outside and especially at the beach and limit their time in the sun. For
little ones who can keep sunscreen on put a light white
long sleeve shirt to cover their arms from. Avoid the
hours from 10:00 am to2:00 pm when the sun is strongest. Motivate teachers and administrators to teach kids
about the harm of UV radiation and why it’s important
to protect yourself. Parents can be great role models by
wearing a hat encourage children to get out of the sun .
His Eminence Cardinal Sean O'Malley will celebrate
the Spanish Mass this Sunday at 9:30 am . The Mass
will be for the people of Ecuador, those who's lives
have been affected by loss of love ones, physical and
emotional suffering and loss of properties, caused by
the earthquake in Ecuador. The Cathedral community
continues to prays with the people of Ecuador.
