Leadership Roles of Men How We Fulfill Our Roles Obstacles in the Spiritual Life Encountering God The Seven Covenants of TMIY Abraham Lincoln was Truly His Father’s Son Making a difference as we worship Christ together. TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Saint Vincent’s Corner In today’s Gospel Jesus says “If a man wishes to come after me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross, and follow in my steps.” The cross of Jesus and the crosses of his members can evangelize us: the sick, who bear illness with courage; the grieving, who hope against hope; the dying, who clearly trust in the resurrection; the suffering of our poor brothers and sisters who are hungry and homeless, but who still trust in God’s love. Is there a neighbor or friend of yours who is in temporary need because of a loss of a job or an illness? Please leave a message for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul…we want to help! CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHINGS In today’s Gospel, even though Peter proclaims the truth that Jesus is the Messiah, the disciples are ordered not to tell others. Jesus had to remove their false ideas about the Messiah. Jesus would not be a great political savior, but rather, a suffering servant who would save us through his passion and death on the cross. Jesus taught his disciples then, and teaches us now, that his disciples must accept the cross of dying to self in order to follow him. Following Jesus will bring us into direct confrontation with the values of our culture: materialism, consumerism and a callous disregard for human life and dignity. Are we ready to carry that cross? Fall Festival Entertainment Line-Up The Fall Festival is proud to present an exciting list of entertainers. The festival includes music for all audience groups; young and old, male and female, country, rock and tejano. The featured performers are Grupo Stampede and People’s Choice Bands, as well as Ballet Folklorico, Sidekicks Band, and the Up and Up Band. Grupo Stampede is a six-piece tejano band with an energy level that compares to a “stampede.” The band’s live performances display its versatility by mixing covers with its cumbia and ranchera originals. Stampede is known for its innovative, urban-Tejano, sound that respects tradition. People’s Choice Band has been entertaining audiences for decades, delivering strong and versatile performances in dance halls across Texas. People’s Choice Band plays a strong and vibrant set of country songs that move the crowd and get them on their feet.
