The American School of Torreon was founded in September of 1950 and it was officially
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since
1954, its proud to present our new facilities in Los Viñedos.

DISCOVER THE CITY
Torreón is a modern and beautiful city, it has wide streets and avenues, also
wide sidewalks. In the city you can visit architectural treasures, interesting museums and high-quality recreational facilities.
• CASA DEL CERRO
• City Historical Museum (Casa del Cerro), This house was constructed a century ago by the engineer Federico
Wulff as his home. Now, it houses an exhibit of period furniture, art galleries and an outdoor forum for
artistic events.
• AROCENA MUSEUM
• Arocena Museum, It is a wide and modern museum with interesting rooms of contemporary art, European art,
art of the New Spain and Regional history. The museum was established in the ancient building of Laguna
Club, constructed in1910.
• ICOCULT
Center for the Arts ICOCULT, Cultural
activities such as theater, dance, music
and painting are promoted within the
galleries of this original and historic
mansion. In addition to its exhibits, it
also has an interesting library.

• Nazas Theater, What was once
and old theater is now a modern
and comfortable cultural events
arena. With the latest technology,
the theater opens its doors to
plays, musical concerts, opera and
other artistic performances.
• TEATRO ISAURO MARTINEZ
• Teatro Isauro Martinez, Construction began on this ambitious and beautiful architectural
project in 1928 by don Isauro Martinez. Its structure is described as Gothic, Byzantine and
Moorish, possesses an exquisite pictorial decor with an oriental flair done by the Valencian
artist, Salvador Tarazona. The theater holds 700 people and is home to the Coahuila
Chamber Orchestra.

UTILITIES
Most of the bills like electricity, water, telephone, TV cable or internet will be mailed to your house monthly or bimonthly depending on
the service, the payment for all those is your responsibility. It is very important to pay all the bills before they expire, now that the
services could be cut one or two days after the that date. As an additional service, the School offers to send your payments to the
different offices, to do this, you would have to bring to the HR Dept. your bills and money at least 4 days before they expire.

Pay your bills on time since service may be cut off after few days,
sometimes an extra charge is added for reinstalling the electricity
Apartments use gas water heater and stoves. Filling the gas tank is
responsibility of the tenant. Most apartments have two tanks. To ensure
that hot water and cooking facilities are always available, when a tank
becomes empty, call the gas company of your preference:

Telephones are available in nearly housing location, and include wireless
internet service
The service is paid once a month and long distance calls are charged two
months after they were made.
All numbers beginning with 044 871 are to cellular phones. DO NOT
ABUSE of this kind of calls since they can get really expensive.

TRASH REMOVAL
• Trash service curbside pick-up is provided at least twice a week. Please be
conscious to proper packing of garbage to ensure that the neighborhood
critters do not spread the contents in front of your house.

DRINKING WATER
• The decision to drink tap water personal choice. While the water is relatively
safe and highly chlorinated, many choose to abstain. There are several options
available for purchasing drinking water.
• ELECTROPURA: 750-19-16 or get a bottle in almost any self service store.

FOOD
• First time visitors come to Mexico experience some type of digestive problems
due to the change in local food cuisine. Food may be prepared differently from
U.S. and Canada. However , do not be alarmed as it usually is a short
adjustment period. Careful preparation and knowledge of food products can
avoid problems.

• BASIC SERVICES:
• ELECTRIC BILL: $600 mxp/ month on a moderate usage
• PHONE/ HIGH SPEED INTERNET: $400 mxp/ month for basic package. Long
distance and celular phone calls are billed separately
• WATER/ TRASH PICK UP: $350 mxp/ month, moderate usage
• GAS: $500 mxp per 30kg tank (regular usage about 1 tank/ month)
• OPTIONAL SERVICES:
• CABLE TELEVISION: $600 mxp/ month for basic package
• CEL PHONE: $400 mxp/ month for basic plan (voice + data)
