Opening the Door to Life
D O MI N G O D E R E S PE TO D E V I D A :
Abrir la Puerta a la Vida
In my last column, I wrote about Suicide
Awareness and Prevention. The experience
opened my eyes that being Pro-Life and
Respect Life are indeed very wide issues.
When it comes down to it, being Pro-Life
or Respect Life Sunday calls us to treasure
life in all its stages and forms as a Gift from
God.
Respect Life means reaching out to Christ
who is vulnerable--whether that be the
unborn child, the child who suffers hunger, or
the adult who cannot read, or the elderly who
needs a word of comfort and care. Respect
Life means being the voice of Christ for those
who have no voice or those who are silenced
by society.
We may not realize it, but feeding the poor
and fighting for better education
opportunities for the underprivileged also are
part of what is means to be Pro-Life.
The beauty of Catholic Social Teaching is
that it is indeed a "Seamless Garment" where
we cannot separate one issue from the other
without looking at the whole--the whole
person who is made in the image and likeness
of God.
So when the youth march to Washington,
D.C. for the Pro-Life March and when SVdP
asks for canned food drives, it's all part of
loving Christ in the Other.
Christ thirsts and hungers, and struggles for
some basic human rights--all with the face of
our neighbors.
Let us go out to meet Him, Christ who is
Hidden among the poor and the lonely. Let
us meet him in the sick and imprisoned. Let
us meet him in the most vulnerable of
society--from the unborn to those advanced
in age.
God is with us every moment of every day.
May he use us to help others, to open doors
where doors have been closed. And to be
People of Light, Life, and Love.
En mi ultima columna, escribí acerca de
Prevención de Suicidio. Esta experiencia
familiar abrió mis ojos que ser Pro-Vida y
Repeto de Vida son temas muy amplios.
Lo basico de ser Pro-Vida o celebrar
Domingo de Respeto de Vida es guardar el
tesero de vida en todas sus etapas y formas
como un Regalo de Dios.
Repeto de Vida significa extender la mano
a Cristo que es vulnerable--aun en forma del
niño no-nacido, el niño que sufre hambre, o
el adulto que no puede leer, o el anciano que
necesita una palabra de conforte y cariño.
Repeto de Vida significa la voz de Cristo para
los que no tienen voz o los que están callados
por la sociedad.
Aveces no nos damos cuenta, pero dar a
comer los pobres y luchar por mejor
oportunidades educacional también son parte
de que significa ser Pro-Vida.
La belleza de La Enseñanza Catolica Social
es que es una "Túnica Sin Costura" donde no
podemos separar un problem del otro sino
que mirar a la persona entera--quien es hecho
en la imagen y semejanza de Dios.
Entonces, cuando los jovenes marchan a
Washington, D.C. para la Marcha Pro-Vida y
cuando San Vicente de Paul pide donaciones
de latas, todo es amar a Cristo en el Otro.
Cristo tiene sed y hambre, y lucha por
necesidades basicos humanos--siempre con la
cara de nuestros vecinos.
Vaminos a reunir con el, Cristo Escondido
en los pobres y los que sienten solos.
Reunamos con el en los enfermos y los
encarcelados. Reunamos con el en los mas
vulnerables de sociedad--de los no-nacidos a
los mayores de edad.
Dios está con nosotros en cada momento de
cada día. Que el Señor nos use para ayudar a
los demas, para abrir puertas donde han
cerrado las puertas. Y para ser Pueblo de Luz,
Vida, y Amor.

The youth decided Sunday,
that they would like T-shirts
to be one of their trading
items, so we are going to
have a design contest. Below are the criteria
for those that wish to submit
a design for the T-shirt.

You must incorporate
the following items into your
design:

o 2) St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church
o 3) Indianapolis, IN
o 4) Date November 21-23,
2013.

The T-Shirt will be a
trading item for St. Gabriel's
youth delegation, so your
design should be one that
appeals to the majority of
the participants. It should
capture the essence of the event.

Designs may include line art and text but no photographs.

Your design is for the front of the shirt and may encompass an area no
greater than 9″ x 9″ and the back of the shirt, an area no greater than 6" wide x
3" tall.

Design should be in black as it will be printed on a white T-Shirt that will
be tie-dyed.

The design must be your own original, unpublished work and must not include any third-party logos or copyrighted material. By entering the competition,
you agree that your submission is your own work. This is a church event so offensive images/text are not acceptable.

Entries should be submitted in JPEG or PDF format, at no less than 400 DPI
resolution
