INCREASE OUR FAITH
Today’s Gospel passage falls under the category that
has come to be known as the “hard sayings” of Jesus. Hard to
understand, hard to apply to life today. The Apostles’ request,
“increase our faith,” is in response to a previous “hard saying”
about how frequently we are called upon to forgive others.
Curiously, Jesus seems rather unforgiving in responding to
their request, or in describing the manner in which they are to
serve others.
Jesus uses exaggerations to wake us up to how God is
present in our lives, and how we are urged to live if God is
with us. None of us is called upon to uproot trees or cast
mountains into the sea. The faith we have is adequate for the
task we are called upon to do: spread the gospel by our
witness. And living that witness is done not for selfgratification or recognition, but out of the joy of helping the
world to hear the Good News.

El pasaje del Evangelio de hoy pertenece a la categoría
llamada “lecciones difíciles” de Jesús. Difíciles de entender, difíciles de aplicar hoy día. La petición de los apóstoles, “aumenta
nuestra fe” es en respuesta a la previa “lección difícil” sobre cuántas veces somos llamados a perdonar a los demás. Curiosamente,
Jesús no parece muy dispuesto a perdonar al responder a su petición, o al describir la manera en que han de servir a los demás.

You may never be canonized. However, people should be able to
look at your life and discover signs of faith. Do they see you
reaching out to those in need, working for justice, caring for family, engaging in prayer, seeking reconciliation, growing spiritually? If so, they see a just one who, through the gift of faith, shall
live.
Quizás tú nunca llegues a ser canonizado. Sin embargo, cuando

A Family Living Rosary will take place on Saturday October 12, 2013
at 8:00 A.M. in the church. This yearly one hour event is offered in
honor of the coming centennial anniversary (100th) of “Our Lady of
Fa ma.” 65 youth of the parish will lead the rosary prayers. Families
will hear the message of Fa ma and its importance of peace. Benedic on will be included. Youth sign ups and other details are in the church office.
This event is now taking place on 4 con nents and is growing. Be part of the
mystery. This event is sponsored by the Legion of Mary of Mary Immaculate
Church.

Did You Know?
Be aware of “grooming” behavior: Did you know that most child
abuse occurs only after the perpetrator has gained the trust of the
child and his or her parents and guardians through a process called
“grooming.” There are three elements of grooming behavior:
physical, psychological community grooming. While the physical
and psychological grooming are progressing with the child, the
perpetrator is grooming the parents, guardians and the rest of the
community. The purpose is to convince us that this is someone
who really cares about kids and is committed to their well-being so
that we will not notice the warning signs or will disregard them
because we can’t believe the perpetrator would commit such a
crime. The process can take as little as a few days or as long as a
few months, but the perpetrator is willing to be patient in an effort
to gain the trust of everyone involved. This is how child molesters
avoid being caught. For more information on child protection
efforts and programs, call the Archdiocese’s Safeguard the
Children Program Office, (213) 637-7227.
The Pro-Life Group of Mary Immaculate invites you to be part of the
Annual "Defending Life Campaign" (baby bottle campaign). We ask that
each family take the bottles to fill it with your donation and return to the
parish office this month or in the collection on November 23 & 24, 2013.
This campaign is to help moms in our community that are in need, and to
support the women who said "yes" to life. Pro-Life Group is to help and
offer emotional, spiritual and economic support to women before, during
and after pregnancy. It also offers counseling for those who
have aborted. If you wish to contact the Pro-Life Group please
call the parish office.

Manténgase al tanto del comportamiento de “preparación:” Sabía

faith. Life Teen invites all teens in High School to Life Teen Mass Sundays at 4pm, and following the mass Life Nights
Sunday October 6, 13 and 27, 2013.
What is edge? It’s way more than effec ve catechesis. It's Catholic middle school youth ministry that helps young people with life's most challenging year.
Edge is a fun, safe place where teens can spend me with their Catholic friends. Where they can get answers to their unanswered ques ons about their
Catholic faith. Where they can experience Jesus Christ in a profound, personal way. Edge invites all Middle School kids to the
Edge program October 9th and 30th, 2013 from 5:00-7:00pm in the Hall and free to all parƟcipants.
CONFIRMATION PROGRAM
Reminder for parents of year A students; there will be a mee ng on Wednesday, October 9th, from 7pm-8:30pm in the Parish Hall.
This summer, Pope Francis met with over 3 million
youth and young adults in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate
the 28th World Youth Day. During his final Mass, Pope
Francis requested that the parents of a child born with
anencephaly participate in the Mass. As they presented
the gifts during the Offertory, they carried with them
their precious daughter, showing the world their love for the gift of her
life. Although the couple had been pressured by doctors to abort their
little girl before she was born, they instead welcomed her as a gift from
God. At the end of the final Mass, Pope Francis challenged the youth of
the world to “go, do not be afraid, and serve.” He continued,
“Dear young friends, Jesus Christ is counting on you! The
Church is counting on you! The Pope is counting on you!
May Mary, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, always accompany you with her tenderness: ‘Go and make disciples of all
nations.” Young people today are more prolife than previous
generations and can help change the “culture of death” to a culture that
embraces life as the gift it truly is. This is perhaps most effectively done
through example. You can take on the challenge of Pope Francis to go
out into the world without fear and live in service of others. Just as the
couple bringing up the gifts during the Offertory at Mass showed the
world how to open their hearts to life, so too, can you proclaim to the
world that every life is sacred, simply by showing every person you meet
the same love that Christ shows you. Pope Francis’ command to “open
your hearts to life” doesn’t simply speak about the attitude we should
have on the serious issues of abortion or euthanasia. Rather, to open our
hearts to life is to approach every person we meet with an attitude of
gratitude. Every person exists because God loves them. So, whether by
simply smiling at the person walking past you on the street or stopping
to spend time with a loved one who perhaps has no one to care for them,
you are asked by God to see the goodness of those around us, and to love
them by everything you do.

PROFESSION OF FAITH
Sunday after Sunday we renew our "PROFESSION OF
FAITH". Every Sunday we profess our Christian faith, when
we say the Creed. The profession of our faith is renewed every Sunday, when we as a community, as God’s people pray
the Creed. The Creed is a wonderful summary of all truths and
dogmas of our Catholic faith, so we pray the Creed with faith,
with great conviction and great awareness. When we say the
Creed, we are re-affirming our faith.
The summary of the Creed contains the following truths:
• I believe in one God Almighty.
• I believe in Jesus Christ the only Son of God.
• I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life.
• I believe in the Virgin Mary
• I believe in the Church, which is ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC
AND APOSTOLIC.
• I believe in the resurrection and in eternal life.
Every time we pray the Creed we renew and deepen our faith.
"Rediscovering the contents of the faith professed, celebrated,
lived and prayed and reflect on the same act which is believed
to be one that every believer must make his own, especially in
this year of faith" (Porta Fidei # 9 )
"The same profession of faith is a personal and community
action" (Porta Fidei # 10)
PROFESION DE NUESTRA FE
Domingo tras Domingo renovamos nuestra “PROFESION DE
FE”. Cada domingo profesamos nuestra fe cristiana, cuando
rezamos el Credo. La profesión de nuestra fe, la renovamos
todos los Domingos, cuando rezamos como pueblo de Dios el
Credo. El Credo es un resumen maravilloso de todas las verdades y dogmas de nuestra fe católica, por eso debemos rezar
el Credo con mucha fe, con mucha convicción y con una gran
conciencia. Cuando rezamos el Credo, estamos re-afirmando
nuestra fe. El resumen del Credo contiene las siguientes verdades:

Creo en un solo Dios Todopoderoso.
•
Creo en Jesucristo Hijo único de Dios.
•
Creo en el Espíritu Santo, Señor y dador de vida.
•
Creo en la Virgen María
•
Creo en la Iglesia, que es UNA, SANTA, CATOLICA Y APOSTOLICA.
•
Creo en la resurrección y en la vida eterna.
Cada vez que rezamos el Credo renovamos y profundizamos
en nuestra fe. “Redescubrir los contenidos de la fe profesada,
celebrada, vivida y rezada y reflexionar sobre el mismo acto
con el que se cree, es un compromiso que todo creyente debe
de hacer propio, sobre todo en este año de fe”( Porta fidei # 9)
