Message From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians of Lincoln Middle School Students:
Thanks to everyone who made it to our second quarter recognition assembly on
January 16th and/or to our Celebration of Learning on January 22nd! It was great to
see so many of you coming out to see the great things our students and staff have
done throughout the first semester and now at the start of the second semester.
Our students and staff who participated in the service learning trip to Costa Rica are
back! As ever, the students and staff who went had a wonderful experience and
represented Lincoln well internationally! Thank you to our families for allowing our
students to take part in this experience, as well as to Kyle Stack, Julie Israelson and
Liz Kennedy for chaperoning the trip and looking after our Lancers abroad!
I’d like to invite all parents and guardians to our next PTO meeting on February 4th
at 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln. The reason for the invitation is a special presentation by
representatives from Team Fort Collins. The presentation is focused on drug
awareness and education, not just within the school but in society in general. Our
PTO co-presidents, Eve Bassett and Carla Pasetti, have been instrumental in
arranging for this presentation and we are looking forward to seeing you there.
Depending on numbers of people attending, we will meet either in the lower media
center or the Lincoln Auditorium.
We are having Parent/Teacher conferences at Lincoln on Thursday, February 26th
from 3:00 – 7:30 p.m. While not required, we do encourage parents who have
questions or concerns about their student’s progress in any class or other issues to
come in and meet with teachers on this date.

6TH Grade
Geography (Mrs. Panighetti):
After coming back from break, students worked on a final project for our humanenvironment interaction unit focusing on Canada. Ask your child to show you
their Google Presentation on their website. They look amazing! Next we will be
moving into a unit that focuses on quality of life statistics in various countries
throughout North America. But the big news it that we’ve welcomed a student
teacher, Mr. Adler, to our room. Students received a letter introducing him to
parents, but in case it never made it home, here’s a copy:
Hello Parents,
My name is Luke Adler and I will be student teaching in Mrs. Panighetti’s class for
the remainder of the school year. This is my final semester at Colorado State
University and I am very excited to spend it in the classroom with your child. Just
so you know a little bit about me, I am 29 years old and have spent half of my life
living in various countries outside of the US including several years in the military.
In my personal time I enjoy reading, the outdoors and learning about history. I
expect to learn a lot these next few months from Mrs. Panighetti and also from
having your child as a student. Please feel free to contact me with any questions,
comments or concerns. I have not yet received my PSD email account, so for the
time being I can be reached through Mrs. Panighetti.

Message From the Principal
Estimados Padres y Tutores de Estudiantes de la Escuela Secundaria Lincoln:
Gracias a todos los que vinieron a nuestra segunda asamblea de reconocimientos el
16 de enero y/o a nuestra celebración de aprendizaje el 22 de enero. Fue genial ver a
tantos de ustedes venir a ver las cosas que nuestros estudiantes y el personal han
hecho a lo largo del primer semestre y ahora en el inicio del Segundo semestre.
Nuestros estudiantes y el personal que participo en el viaje de aprendizaje a Costa
Rica están de regreso. Como siempre, los estudiantes y el personal que fue, tuvieron
una maravillosa experiencia y representaron Lincoln muy bien internacionalmente.
Gracias a todas nuestras familias por permitir a nuestros estudiantes formar parte de
esta experiencia, así como también a Kyle Stack, Julie Israelson y Liz Kennedy por
acompañarlos en el viaje y cuidar de los alumnos en el extranjero.
Me gustaría invitar a todos los padres y tutores a nuestra próxima reunión de PTO el
4 de febrero a las 6:00 p.m. en Lincoln. La razón por la invitación es una
presentación especial por representantes de Equipo Fort Collins. La presentación
está enfocada en el conocimiento y educación de drogas, no solo dentro de la
escuela, sino en la sociedad en general. Nuestros copresidentes de PTO Eve Bassett
y Carla Pasetti, han sido fundamentales en la organización de esta presentación y
esperamos verlos ahí. Dependiendo del número de personas asistiendo, nos
reuniremos en la biblioteca o en el Auditorio de Lincoln.
Tendremos las conferencias de Padres/Maestros en Lincoln el jueves 26 de febrero,
de 3:00 – 7:30 p.m. Aunque no es obligatorio, le pedimos a los padres que tengan
preguntas o comentarios acerca del progreso de su estudiante en las clases, que
vengan y hablen son los maestros ese día.
Nuestra siguiente reunión del Comité de Responsabilidad Escolar será el martes 10

Geografía (Sra. Panighetti):
Después que regresamos de las vacaciones, los estudiantes trabajaron en un Proyecto de interacción humano-medio ambiente, unidad enfocada en Canadá. Pregúntele a su hijo que le muestre su presentación en la página de Google. ¡Se ven
increíbles! Después nos moveremos a una unidad que se enfoca en las estadísticas
de la calidad de vida en varios países de Norte América. Pero la gran noticia es
que le dimos la bienvenida a nuestro pasante de maestro, el Sr. Adler. Los estudiantes recibieron una nota de presentación para que la llevaran a sus padres, pero
en caso de que no la recibieron, aquí esta una copia:
Hola Padres,
Mi nombre es Luke Adler y estaré enseñando junto con la maestra Panighetti en su
clase por el resto del año escolar. Este es mi último semestre en la Universidad del
Estado de Colorado y estoy muy emocionado de pasar tiempo en el salón de clases
con sus hijos. Solo para que sepan un poco acerca de mí, tengo 29 años y he pasado la mitad de mi vida viviendo en carios países fuera de los EU, incluyendo muchos años de militar. En mi tiempo libre disfruto mucho leer, del aire libre y aprender de la historia. Espero aprender mucho estos pocos meses con la Sra. Panighetti
y también de tener a sus hijos como mis estudiantes. Por favor comuníquese conmigo por cualquier pregunta, comentario o preocupación. Todavía no he recibido

7th Grade
Math
7th grade math classes are working on solving one-step and two-step
equations, as well as writing expressions and equations to model
real-life situations.
Science
Hello! I hope your winter break was filled with joy and a lot of rest.
In 7th grade science, we are hitting the ground running for semester
two. A snapshot of this semester will include learning about the
human body and how the body systems work together, an exploration
into genetics and how traits get passed from parents to offspring, how
the earth has evolved over millions of years, and studying the various
earth formations that exist and how to predict earthquakes and
volcanoes.
In the short term, we will learn how body systems rely on each other
to help the human body function smoothly. The culmination of this
unit will end in a frog dissection. Please keep an eye out for
permission slips to be coming home with students which will allow
them to take part in the dissection. Students typically love this
opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and explore their
learning in a very hands-on way. Stay tuned next month for a report
on how things went, along with an update into the genetics unit we
will be heading into!
English
In 7th grade Language Arts, we are exploring how our perspective on
vital resources such as water are altered by conflict and
environmental destruction. Our study is centered on the novel Long
Walk to Water, which is memoir of a boy growing up during the civil
war in Sudan. In the following weeks, students will be researching
the Sundaneses conflict and how various aid organizations work to
help displaced people in Sudan. Finally, we are continuing our goal
to create a safe, positive, and fun classroom culture that is reflective
of the IB core beliefs and values.
Geography
After a great start to the second semester, including an introduction to
Africa and a small group trip to Costa Rica, students are settling in
and creating their Books of Hope. Working with a partner, each
seventh grader will be creating a digital book. The topic of these
books range from Endangered Animals, to Geographic Features, and
Types of Government (these are only a few examples). The goal is to
send these books off to Africa, so underprivileged students can access
this information and learn new information. The project also
provides students with an opportunity to showcase their artistic
abilities.
We will end this month with a 7th grade trip to the Denver Museum of
Nature and Science. Students will have the chance to visit the Africa
exhibit as well as other areas of the Museum. We look forward to a
fun filled day On Friday February 27th.

7th Grade Field Trip
All 7th Grade students are invited to attend a field trip to the Denver Museum of
Nature and Science on February 27. This field trip is being organized through World
Geography classes. Students will receive a permission slip from their World
Geography teacher the first week of February. The requirements to attend this field
trip are 1)Return the signed permission slip, 2)Receive no major or minor office
referrals for the month of February, and 3)Maintain passing grades – no more than 1 F
in all of your classes, and you must be passing World Geography (D or higher). If
parents are interested in chaperoning this field trip, please contact your student’s
World Geography teacher, and register as an official school district volunteer on
the PSD webpage.
Spanish Las Noticias
Level 1A and B students showed tremendous growth during Semester. 6th graders
learned basic introductory conversations; 7th graders described themselves and
expressed likes and dislikes; 8th graders talked and wrote about family with all 3
verb types (ar, er, ir). I was so impressed with Lancer language acquisition during
Semester 1. Semester 2 is off to a strong start with 6th graders learning singular and
plural nouns, 7th graders using AR verbs to describe school days and 8th graders
describing sports and hobbies using regular and irregular verbs. All grades have been
presenting great work in Spanish on Google Docs. Remember our class district

Art
Empty Bowls @ Lincoln
Lincoln is celebrating our 13th year of
participation in the Empty Bowls Dinner! This
inspiring event teaches students about food
insecurity and hunger issues as well as how art
can make a difference. Working in teams the
students are making bowls that will be donated
to the Empty Bowls Dinner on February
5th. This annual dinner is one of the biggest
fund raisers for the Food Bank for Larimer
County. The bowls donated by our students,
and many other students across the district, become gifts to the patrons of the dinner
and serve as symbolic reminders that not everyone has food to fill their bowls.
Along with the donated artwork students learn how to throw on the pottery wheel
and they themselves get to take home an empty bowl to remind them of their
efforts. The student teams are also creating a PSA poster to raise awareness about
hunger facts. The classes will vote on the best posters and these will be featured on
our KLIN news. Projects likes this allow students to have fun while learning and
serving their community.

Boletin Informativo del 7o Grado
Matemáticas
Las clases de matemáticas de 7o grado están trabajando en resolver
ecuaciones de uno y dos pasos, así como también escribiendo
expresiones y ecuaciones para modelar situaciones de la vida real.
Ciencia
¡Hola! Espero que sus vacaciones de invierno estuvieran llenas de
diversión y mucho descanso. En ciencia de 7o grado, estamos
empezando el Segundo semestre. Estaremos aprendiendo sobre el
cuerpo humano y como trabajan juntos los sistemas del cuerpo,
haremos una exploraciones en genética y como los rasgos se pasan de
los padres a sus descendientes, como la tierra ha evolucionado por
millones de años estudiando varias formaciones de la tierra que
existen y como predecir terremotos y volcanes.
En corto plazo, aprenderemos como los sistemas del cuerpo dependen
unos de otros, para ayudar a que el cuerpo humano funcione sin
problemas. La culminación de esta unidad va a terminar con la
disección de una rana. Por favor este al pendiente del permiso que
enviare a su casa con su estudiante, el cual permitirá que forme parte
de la disección. A los alumnos usualmente les encanta esta
oportunidad para salir de su zona de confort y explorar su aprendizaje
de una manera práctica. Estén al pendiente el próximo mes para el
reporte de como estuvo todo, así como también una actualización en
la unidad de genética.
Ingles
En las clases de Artes de Lenguaje de 7o grado, estaremos explorando
como nuestra perspectiva en recursos vitales, tales como el agua son
alterados por conflictos y destrucción del medio ambiental. Nuestro
estudio está centrado en la novela “Long Walk to Water”, la cual es
una memoria de un niño que crecía durante la guerra civil en Sudan.
En las próximas semanas los estudiantes estarán investigando los
conflictos Sudaneses y como varias organizaciones de ayuda trabajan
para ayudar a la gente desplazada en Sudan. Finalmente,
continuaremos nuestra meta de tener salón positivo, seguro y cultural
que va de acuerdo con la filosofía y valores del programa IB.
Geografia
Después de un gran comienzo del segundo semestre, incluyendo una
introducción de África y un viaje con un grupo pequeño a Costa Rica,
los estudiantes están asentándose y creando sus Libros de Esperanza.
Trabajando con un compañero, cada estudiante de séptimo grado
estará creando un libro digital. El tema de estos libros varía desde
animales en extinción hasta accidentes geográficos y tipos de
gobierno. (Esos son solo unos ejemplos). La meta es enviar esos
libros a África, para que los estudiantes de escasos recursos puedan
tener acceso a esta información y aprender nueva información
también. El proyecto también provee a los estudiantes con una
oportunidad demostrar sus habilidades artísticas.
Terminaremos este mes con un paseo al Museo de Naturaleza y
Ciencia en Denver. Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de visitar
la exhibición de África así como también otras áreas del museo.

7o Grado
Todos los estudiantes de 7o Grado están invitados a ir al paseo al Museo de
Naturaleza y Ciencia en Denver el 27 de febrero. Este paseo ha sido organizado por
las clases de Geografía Mundial. Los estudiantes recibirán un permiso de su maestro
(a) de la clase de Geografía la primera semana de febrero. Los requisitos para ir son
1) Regresar el permiso firmado, 2)No recibir llamadas a la oficina por problemas de
disciplina en el mes de febrero y 3)Mantener buenas calificaciones (no reprobar
clases) – no más que 1 F en todas sus clases y por supuesto estar aprobando su clases
de Geografía Mundial (D o más). Si los padres están interesados en
acompañarnos en este paseo, por favor comuníquese con su maestro de
Geografía y regístrese en la página de PSD para ser un voluntario oficial.

Arte
Empty Bowls @ Lincoln
Lincoln está celebrando su 13o año participando en
la cena de Empty Bowls (Tazones Vacíos). Este
evento inspirador enseña a los estudiantes acerca
de los problemas alimenticios y problemas del
hambre, así como también como el arte puede
hacer una diferencia. Los estudiantes están
trabajando en equipo y están haciendo tazones que
serán donados a la Cena de Tazones Vacíos el 5 de
febrero. Esta cena anual es uno de los eventos más
grandes para recaudar fondos para el Banco de Comida del Condado Larimer. Los
tazones donados por nuestros estudiantes y muchos más de todo el distrito se
convierten en regalos a los patrocinadores de la cena y sirven como recordatorios
simbólicos de que no todos tienen comida para llenar esos tazones.
Además de la buena obra de donar, los alumnos aprenden a cómo usar la alfarería y
ellos mismos se llevan un tazón vacío a casa para recordarles de sus esfuerzos.
Los equipos de estudiantes también están creando un poster PSA para crear
conciencia sobre los problemas del hambre. Las clases votaran por los mejores
posters y esos estarán mostrados en las transmisiones de las noticias de Lincoln
KLIN. Los proyectos como estos permiten a los estudiantes divertirse aprendiendo
como servir a la comunidad.

PE/Health
The new semester brings a new group of students to P.E.
class in 7th and 8th grade! It’s fun to hear how excited they
are to be joining us. The 7th and 8th grade students have
just completed fitness testing in class and will be starting
their first units shortly. The 6th graders will be playing
speedball with Ms. Rice and Badminton with Mr.
Schrom. Speedball is a mix between soccer and football
and utilizes many different skills. It is definitely a Lincoln
favorite and it keeps the kids moving!
Computer Technology
It’s a new semester and a new group of students have
joined Mr. Benson in his computer lab. The classes being
taught by Mr. Benson this semester include 6th Grade Web
2.0 Computer Technology, 7th Grader Game Programming,
and 8th Grade Graphic Design, Web Design, & Computer
Animation. On top of that, Mr. Benson will also be
teaching Digital Photography this semester. An 8th grade class for the full semester
and a 7th grade class for 4th quarter. We are hoping to include photos taken by the
students as part of the Arts Café this Spring.
Educación Física/Salud
El Nuevo semestre empieza con un Nuevo grupo de alumnos
en la clase de Educación Física para 7o y 8º grado. Es muy
divertido oír que tan emocionados están por
acompañarnos. Los estudiantes de 7º y 8o grado acaban de
completar sus pruebas de aptitud y estarán empezando sus
primeras unidades muy pronto. Los de 6o grado estarán
jugando Bola Rápida con la Sra. Rice y Badminton con el Sr.
Schrom. La Bola Rápida es una mezcla de futbol y futbol
americano y utiliza muchas habilidades diferentes. Es definitivamente una de las
cosas favoritas en Lincoln y mantiene a los alumnos moviéndose.
Tecnología de Computadoras
Es un Nuevo semestre y un Nuevo grupo de alumnos se ha
unido al laboratorio de computadoras del Sr. Benson. Las
clases que serán enseñadas este semestre serán 6o Grado
Web 2.0 Tecnología de Computadoras, 7o Grado
Programación de Juegos y 7º Grado Diseño Gráfico, Diseño
de páginas de Internet y Animación por Computadoras.
Además de eso, el Sr. Benson estará enseñando Fotografía Digital este semestre. Una
clase de 8o grado por todo el semestre y una de 7o grado por el último trimestre.
Esperamos incluir fotos tomadas por los estudiantes como parte de Artes y Café esta
primavera.

Costa Rica
The students and sponsors have
returned from their trip to Costa
Rica with memories of great fun
and appreciation for another
culture. As part of their service
project the students took 6 tons of
soil and leveled a community
soccer field, filling in parts of the
field that had sunk or become
uneven. The locals will then plant new grass in those spots. We also broke up old
soil to allow for new grass to be planted. To see more pictures from this year’s Costa

Los estudiantes y promotores han
regresado de su viaje a Costa Rica
con recuerdos de gran diversión y
apreciación de otra cultura. Como
parte de su proyecto de servicio
comunitario, movieron 6
toneladas de tierra y la nivelaron
para un campo de futbol de la
comunidad, rellenando partes del
campo que se había hundido o que estaba desnivelado. Luego los lugareños plantaron
nuevo zacate en esos puntos. También separamos tierra vieja para permitir que

Media Center
Buying Books Locally
The Lincoln Media Center recently purchased
approximately 60 new books from Old Firehouse
Books, a downtown, independently-owned Fort
Collins bookstore. A large number of the new titles
were purchased based on teacher and student
recommendations. Adding to our ever popular
dystopian collection, some of the new titles include
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, Requiem by Lauren Oliver, and The Pathfinder Series
by Orson Scott Card.
Scholastic Book Fair
Please plan to support our Scholastic Book Fair on February 23rd, 24th and 25th. The
Book Fair is the perfect venue for helping to build and update our school library’s
collection as well as a fun way for students to choose books to add to their home
libraries. We will have complete information about the Fair on our website. If you
are interested in volunteering, please contact Mrs. Suazo at 488-5772 or

Comprando Libros Localmente
La Biblioteca de Lincoln recientemente compró aproximadamente 60 libros nuevos a
Old Firehouse Books, una librería privada de Fort Collins. Un gran número de títulos
nuevos fueron comprados basados en las recomendaciones de maestros y alumnos.
Agregando a nuestra colección distópica siempre popular, algunos de los nuevos

Spelling Bee
Congratulations to seventh grader Autumn Seifert who
won the Lincoln Spelling Bee. Autumn went on to win a
seat at the district spelling bee, which will take place on
February 11. Go, Autumn!
