The Puerto Vallarta Men’s Chorus

It is a pleasure to welcome you to our first
“big” show at Teatro Vallarta! This has been
a dream of mine from the moment the idea
of a gay men’s chorus in Puerto Vallarta
first came to me early this year. With the
help of my dear friend and co-founder Joyce
Ericson, we laid out a roadmap of how we’d
get from an “idea” to our first performance.
Rehearsals started at the beginning of May
with 30 brave singers, practicing for our Gay
Pride show held at the Boutique Theatre on
June 17th. We made history. We are the first ever gay men’s chorus in
Mexico and all of Latin America. Our audience received the show
and the Puerto Vallarta Men’s chorus with warmth and enthusiasm.
We entertained, and hopefully moved some hearts and minds with
our music and stories.
I’ve always loved the holiday season. When I lived in Seattle, one
of my favorite traditions was going to hear the Seattle Men’s Chorus
perform their holiday show in December. It never failed to amaze
and touch me. I told myself that some day when my real estate career was going well I’d sing with the Seattle chorus. I did from 1998
until 2003. I loved singing the songs of Christmas in some of the
finest concert halls in Seattle.
After moving to Mexico and helping start a flowershop with
my partner Gerardo, I jumped back in real estate. But I always felt
there was something more waiting for me. I discovered it this year
as I worked as musical director for the wonderful show that David
Restivo put together at the Boutique Theatre called “The Best Little
Whorehouse in Texas”. I was working with all the singers, and was
starting to get some good results. I discovered I had a talent working
with singers. It gave me the idea and the courage to embark on this
huge undertaking. They say be careful for what you ask for. I asked
for a wonderful new life, and the universe gave me this wonderful
opportunity. I proudly present the Puerto Vallarta Men’s Chorus.
JEFFREY JUDE VITALE
President of the Board of Directors
The Puerto Vallarta Men’s Chorus
Jeff was born in Detroit Michigan and earned a
B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Plant Ecology from
Wayne State University before moving to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago where
he studied Evolutionary Biology, and wrote a
number of articles for prestigious scientific
journals including Evolution and the American
Journal of Botany.
While in Chicago Jeff was a volunteer at Gay
and Lesbian Horizons serving as a peer counselor as well as an instructor of gay sensitivity
for the Chicago Police Department. He was also the co-chair of the Illinois
Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Jeff then returned to Michigan for a couple
of years and served as a board member of the Michigan Organization for
Human Rights, as well as the MOHR Foundation. With a small group of
friends, Jeff founded the Affirmations Community Center for lesbians and
gays which has since moved to Ferndale Michigan and grown enormously.

Es un placer darle la bienvenida a nuestro primer “gran” show
en el Teatro Vallarta! Este ha sido un sueño para mí desde el momento en que surgió la idea de un coro de hombres gay en Puerto
Vallarta a principios de este año. Con la ayuda de mi querida amiga y
co-fundadora Joyce Ericson, trazamos ruta de cómo lograríamos llevar una “idea” a nuestra primera presentación. Los ensayos iniciaron
a principios de mayo con 30 cantantes valientes, practicando para
nuestro espectáculo Orgullo Gay celebrado en el Teatro Boutique el
17 de junio. Hicimos historia. Somos el primer Coro Gay de México
y de toda América Latina. Nuestro público recibió el espectáculo y
el coro masculino de Puerto Vallarta con calidez y entusiasmo. Los
entretuvimos, y espero que de igual forma se hayan movido algunos
corazones y mentes con nuestra música e historias.
Siempre me han gustado las fiestas navideñas. Cuando vivía en
Seattle, una de mis costumbres favoritas era ir a escuchar al Coro de
Hombres de Seattle que realizan su espectáculo navideño en diciembre. Nunca dejaba de sorprenderme y conmoverme. Me dije a mí
mismo que algún día, cuando mi carrera de bienes raíces caminara
bien, cantaría con el coro de Seattle. Lo hice a partir de 1998 y hasta
2003. Me encantaba cantar las canciones de Navidad en algunas de
las mejores salas de conciertos en Seattle.
Después de trasladarme a México y ayudar a iniciar un negocio
de flores con mi pareja Gerardo, regresé al sector inmobiliario. Pero
siempre sentí que había algo más que me esperaba. Lo descubrí este
año mientras trabajaba como director musical para el espectáculo
maravilloso que David Restivo montó en el Teatro Boutique llamado
“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. Yo estaba trabajando con
todos los cantantes, y estaba empezando a obtener algunos buenos
resultados. Descubrí que tenía un talento trabajando con cantantes.
Eso me dio la idea y el coraje de embarcarme en esta empresa gigantesca. Dicen que debes tener cuidado con lo que pides. Pedí una
nueva vida maravillosa, y el universo me dio esta maravillosa oportunidad. Con orgullo les presento al Coro Varonil de Puerto Vallarta.
Missing Chicago, he returned to form Overlooked Opinions, the first national opinion polling firm specializing in gay and lesbian polling and market research. Overlooked Opinions’ ground breaking research was cited in
virtually every major market publication in the US and Canada, as well as
across five continents, promoting understanding and visibility for gay men
and lesbian women worldwide. While at Overlooked Opinions, Jeff wrote Changing Scenes, a monthly column for the Chicago Chapter of the
American Marketing Association. During that time Jeff was also named
one Chicago’s top 40 businessmen under the age of 40 by Crain’s Chicago
Magazine.
Riviera Nayarit has been Jeff’s home for the past 12 years and he currently
divides his time among the PVMC, slowly building a gay-ecto retreat in the
jungles of Higuera Blanca and writing gay novels under the name Jeffrey Jude.
His latest book “Snow Ashens Angels Fall” focuses on the struggles of a
young gay pianist whose world spirals out of control... and on Christmas Eve,
for some inexplicable reason, both heaven and hell take carefull notice.

breath, not of fire but of ice... and miracles, no matter where they fall, are
born of the snow.”

of David E. Robinson, a Bon Vivant - one
who never met a soul he wasn’t willing to like.
A lover of Puerto Vallarta, cruise ships, New
York theatre, Hollywood and the arts (and
stars). No one could question his knowledge
of automobiles. He loved children and dancing, and his idea of roughing it was arriving
at the Plaza Hotel without reservations. He
suffered his demise with grace and dignity
that few have or will ever match and will be
missed by many but none more than his loving partner of 20 years, Roger Langford.

Bob Bruneau started his musical career
in Portland, Oregon,
being involved with
the school’s music programs. He attended
Portland State University with a major in
Music Education. He
directed a church choir
as well as a grade school band program, and
played at night in various music combos. After
college, Bob joined the US Air Force Band of
the Northwest outside of Seattle and played
piano, saxophone and even helped out in the
percussion section. Upon completion of his
military service, he helped organize a show
band called A New Day. One of their first engagements in 1971 was in Acapulco, Mexico
where he fell in love with this incredible country. His band continued to play through the
70’s, traveling across the US and Canada, and
settling finally in Seattle. The band continued
to play until 1983. He continued his music
playing and singing in piano bars in Seattle.
In 1985 he made a major career change and
went into real estate. During this entire time he
continued to vacation in Mexico. He knew he
would eventually retire here. He found his retirement home in Puerto Vallarta’s Old Town in
1999, met his life partner in the year 2000, and
in 2004 made his move to Mexico.
Bob Bruneau comenzó su carrera musical en Portland, Oregon, al estar involucrado con los programas de

Bill Deavenport received his B.F.A. in Theatre Production and his

from California Institute

California, while teaching
classes in Lighting Design
and Sound Design for the
Dance School, Ms. Bella Lewitzky Dean. Since then he has worked professionally for over
30 years as Company Manager, House Manager, Group Sales Manager, Technical Director,
Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Production Stage Manager, Box Office Manager and/
or Technician.
He worked in New York for The Shubert
Theater (and Los Angeles) and at The Helen
Hayes Theatre in New York. Back in Los Angeles he’s worked for Civic Light Opera at the
Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and The Almanson
Theatre, The Pantages Theater, The Huntington Hartford Theater, The Hollywood Bowl,
The Mayfair Music Hall, The Greek Theatre,
and the Wilshire Ebel Theatre.
He has also worked in San Francisco at
The Palace of Fine Arts and The San Francisco Opera House and many other venues. Mr.
Deavenport also served as Company Manager for The Pacific Ballet in San Francisco. He
was Touring Company Manager for the North
American tour of “Ipi Tombi,” the South African Dance Company, as well as the Touring
Production Manager for four North American
tours of the “Bella Lewitzky Dance Company”
based in Los Angeles, California.
In Puerto Vallarta he has worked at The
Boutique Theatre and was our sound and
lighting engineer for the Puerto Vallarta Men’s
Chorus Pride show in June of 2012. He’s also
worked at the Santa Barbara Theater, CECATUR Theater, Club Mañana, Dreams Resort,
the Bite Me! Beach Club and the Palm Cabaret
and Bar. Credits include: “The Gin Game,”
“Deathtrap,” “The Wiz,” “Phantom of the
Opera,” “Annie,” “Hello Dolly,” “Wait Until
Dark,” “The King and I,” “Chicago,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Alice in Wonderland,”
“Equis,” “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern
are Dead,” “The Nutcracker,” “Swan Lake,”
among others. We are grateful to have a person with this vast experience as our Stage and
Production manager!

PRINCIPAL ACCOMPANIST
Aníbal Cruz César,
Instrumentalist and Piano Teacher, Set Practice
and Director of Popular Music sets, was born
June 3, 1989 in the city
of Camagüey, Cuba.
He began his musical studies at the Vocational School of Art, Nola Sahíg Sainz, in the
city of Ciego de Avila, Cuba, specializing in
piano.
By accessing the José White Conservatory
of Music in Camagüey, he maintains active
participation in composition workshops, jazz
concerts, and contests like the Fiat Music organized by the center. He also participates as a
concert pianist and accompanist in the city of
Camaguey organizations such as the House of
Culture, the Provincial Library among others.
He was also a member of the Mixed Choir of
the Conservatory.
Anibal Entered the Superior Art Institute
(ISA), in 2009-2010 and was a student of the
Masters Rafael Guzman and Juan Piñera. Here
he took part in the Harold Gramatges contest

of UNEAC (National Union Writers and Artists of Cuba) getting an Honorable Mention.
Likewise, he is a member of the ISA mixed
choir, performing in the city of Matanzas, in the
San Felipe Neri Oratory, in the Musicalia contest and within the framework of the Arts Festival of the University “Musicalia”. He composed
the soundtrack and participates as an actor in
the staging of “Animal ... Baobab ... Parlante ....”
by the playwright Peter E. Villarreal.
Today he lives in the city of Puerto Vallarta,
Mexico where he has performed since 2010 in
the headquarters of the Library “Los Mangos,”
in “Isla Cuale Cultural Center,” at the University Center of the Costa and others venues like
Studio-Café in Nuevo Vallarta. He is also the
principal accompanist with the Puerto Vallarta
Men’s Chorus. We are honored to have him. On
December 27, 2012, he will play at the Sheraton
Hotel in a benefit concert sponsored by the Library “Los Mangos.”

Medio de Música. Ingresa al Instituto Superior de Arte,
(ISA), en el curso 2009-2010 en la carrera de Composición como alumno de los Maestros Rafael Guzmán
y Juan Piñera. En el mes de noviembre participó en el
concurso Harold Gramatges de la UNEAC (Unión
Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba) obteniendo
Mención. De igual forma es integrante del coro mixto del
ISA, ofreciendo conciertos en la ciudad de Matanzas, en
el Oratorio San Felipe Neri y en el concurso Musicalia
dentro del marco del Festival de las Artes de la universidad. En el mismo Festival compone la banda sonora y
participa como actor de la puesta en escena “Animal…
Baobab… Parlante….” del dramaturgo Pedro E. Villareal.
Hasta el momento radica en la ciudad de Puerto
Vallarta, México, donde ha realizado conciertos desde el
año 2010 en las sedes de la Biblioteca “Los Mangos”,
en el “Centro Cultural Isla Cuale”, en el Centro Universitario de la Costa y otros como el Estudio-Café de
Nuevo Vallarta. Es el encargado del acompañamiento
principal con El Coro Varonil de Puerto Vallarta. El
27 de diciembre de 2012 el Hotel Sheraton será la sede
de su próximo concierto patrocinado y a beneficio de la
Biblioteca “Los Mangos”.

CYNTHIA MCMANUS
COSTUME DESIGN
Cynthia our treasurer comes to Puerto Vallarta from the Seattle area, where she served
at one of the major banks in administration.
Her great husband is Jorge, who is from Chile.
Cynthia also works as our costume department
manager and designer, maintaining the large
collection of costumes so generously donated
by T. J. Hartung, and making the necessary pieces of clothing and costuming that our singers
need for performance. If this isn’t enough of a
commitment, she also has cooked and catered
some of our amazing food events. She serves
on two other boards in the Puerto Vallarta region, one of which is The Navy League. She
has even appeared in a show at the Boutique
Theatre as Doatsie Mae! We are blessed to
have Cynthia on our board!
Cynthia, nuestra tesorera, llega a Puerto Vallarta desde la Ciudad de Seattle, donde se desempeñó en
administración en uno de los bancos más importantes.
Su gran esposo es Jorge, quien es de Chile. Cynthia también colabora como nuestro Gerente del Departamento
de Vestuario y Diseñador, realizando el mantenimiento

SHARON BAUGHMAN-WHITE
VOCAL COACH AND MUSIC THEORY TRAINER
Music has been a part
of Sharon’s life as far back
as she can remember. She
began piano lessons at
age four and studied piano throughout her school
years. She passed level seven at the Royal Academy
of London while living
there during her high school years.
She attended Oberlin College Music Conservatory in Ohio and graduated with a BA
in Music Education and a minor in piano.
During her junior year she joined the other
Oberlin music students for a year in Salzburg,
Austria. There she continued her piano studies and focused more on voice. “The Sound
Of Music” was filmed that same year in Salzburg and Sharon had the opportunity to have a
small part as a nun singing during the wedding
scene. She returned to Salzburg after graduation and studied at the Carl Orff music school
for one year.
Sharon taught vocal music for 29 years in
the Garden Grove School District in Southern
California. She was asked to teach in the American School in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and was
there for a year in 1974.
She moved to Puerto Vallarta in 1995
and has been active in many music activities,
including singing with Spotlight Players; directing Bedazzled at the Santa Barbara Theater;
singing with her husband David in their own
production of Jekyll and Hyde; participating in
other musical revues at the Boutique Theatre;
playing violin in the Vallarta Chamber Orchestra; playing duo pianos with Casey Lupton; and
just last year, forming the Telemann Recorder
Trio. She is a supporter of the new Puerto
Vallarta Men’s Chorus and teaches the theory
classes for this talented group.
La música ha sido parte de la vida de Sharon desde que tiene memoria. Ella comenzó a tomar clases de
piano a los 4 años y estudió piano a lo largo de sus
años escolares. Pasó el nivel 7 en la Royal Academy de
Londres mientras vivía allí durante sus años de escuela
secundaria.

New York Cabaret Bistro Award Winner and San Francisco Bay Times Jazz and Cocktails’ Top 10 Cabaret Act in 2010, Arnaldo! started as a soloist
with Seattle Men’s Chorus in the early 1990’s (SMC) and has performed with SMC across US, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. He began his solo
cabaret shows with PVMC’s artistic director Bob Bruneau in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and has since performed his one person cabaret in
Portland, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Puerto Vallarta, San Francisco, and New York with Bob as his musical director.

In 2005, he completed the Cabaret Summer Conference Workshop at Yale University.
In 2006, Arnaldo! started the Pacific Northwest
Cabaret Association and continues to organize

Arnaldo!’s New York cabaret debut with Bob,

El Coro Varonil de Puerto Vallarta está encantado de dar la bienvenida al escenario del Teatro Vallarta al increíblemente talentoso Arnaldo! Drag Chanteuse. El ganador del Premio del New York Cabaret Bistro y del San
Francisco Bay Jazz Times y Cocktails ‘Top 10 Show de Cabaret en 2010, Arnaldo! comenzó como solista con el Coro Varonil de Seattle a principios de los años 1990 (SMC)
y ha actuado con SMC a través de EE.UU., Europa, Nueva Zelanda y Australia. Comenzó sus espectáculos de cabaret en solitario con el Director Artístico del PVMC Bob
Bruneau en el Capitolio de Seattle y desde entonces ha realizado su inigualable show de cabaret en Portland, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Puerto Vallarta, San Francisco y Nueva
York con Bob como su director musical. En 2005, completó el Taller y Conferencia de Cabaret en el verano en la Universidad de Yale. En 2006, Arnaldo! inició la Pacific
Northwest Cabaret Asociación y sigue organizando “Marzo es el Mes de Cabaret en Seattle” con artistas locales y visitantes. El año 2007 marcó el debut de Arnaldo! en el
New York cabaret con Bob, y en 2008 Arnaldo! fue honrado con un Premio del NY Backstage Bistro. En 2010, el tributo de Arnaldo! a Eartha Kitt en el Razz Room fue
elegido por el periódico de San Francisco “Jazz & Cocktails” dentro del Top 10 como uno de los mejores shows de cabaret que se presentaron en el área de la bahía de ese año.
