Around the Diocese
January 16, 2012
This month, the parish portion of the Our Cathedral: One Faith, One People
campaign begins with 42 parishes and missions taking part in Block 1. The
remaining parishes and missions will conduct the campaign in Block 2, from August
until December.
Every parish will have a Campaign Leadership Committee to organize and conduct
the Campaign at the local level. Part of the Committee’s responsibility will be to
refine the Campaign message to best reflect how the Campaign will serve both the needs of the parish community and
the Diocese.
Every parishioner of the Diocese will be provided multiple opportunities to participate in the Campaign. First and
foremost will be a reception hosted by the local parish, which will provide details of the Cathedral Campaign Facilities
project and address parishioner questions.
During 2012, the Bishop’s Annual Appeal will be incorporated into the Our Cathedral: One Faith, One People
campaign. The first funds collected in each parish in the Cathedral Campus Campaign will go to satisfy the Bishop’s
Annual Appeal goal, to guarantee the ongoing support of the broader mission of the Catholic Church in Eastern North
Carolina.
The January/February issue of NC Catholics contains the list of parishes included in Block 1. The magazine also
includes the pastoral and social ministry programs supported by the Bishop’s Annual Appeal.
Obispo.
This week’s editions of Catholic Perspective and Catholic Weekly will feature a discussion with Bishop Michael F.
Burbidge on the 2012 Bishop’s Annual Appeal being incorporated into the Cathedral Campus Facilities campaign.
Bishop Burbidge will review components of the campaign and discuss the essential role of the BAA in carrying out
the pastoral and social outreach mission of the Diocesan Church. The programs will also feature Bishop Burbidge’s
homily from the Diocesan Pro-Life Mass on January 14.
Catholic Perspective, the weekly Diocesan TV program airs in Greenville Wednesday evenings at
7:00 p.m. on Cable Channel 69. The program is also available on the Diocesan website at
www.dioceseofraleigh.org.
Catholic Perspective, the weekly Diocesan TV program airs on the Time-Warner Find It on
Demand Channel, 1083 in Craven, New Hanover, Brunswick, Onslow and Pender Counties,
allowing viewers to watch at any time during the week. The program is also available on the
Diocesan website at www.dioceseofraleigh.org.
March for Life Join faithful from across the Diocese for the North Carolina Mass and March for Life on Monday,
January 23. This year, in the Diocese of Raleigh, over 30 buses from parishes and schools and many other faithful
will make the trip. The day begins with Mass with Bishops Michael Burbidge of the Raleigh Diocese and Bishop Peter
Jugis of the Charlotte Diocese along with hundreds of priests and deacons at the Basilica of the Immaculate
Conception at 11:30 a.m. The march on the mall follows with several hundred thousand people from across the U.S.
Immediately following the march, join North Carolina Right to Life and meet with staffers for Senator Richard Burr
and Congresswoman Renee Ellmers from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Dirksen building, Room G50. Senator Burr
and Congresswoman Ellmers will be there between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

How much time will you spend with your spouse today? Some studies say that the average couple
spends only 20 minutes a day together. Do you need to increase face time? On your wedding day you
promised to love each other for better or for worse. What is a “for better” that your spouse has made in
your life? Share it before you go to bed tonight. For more tips and resources to strengthen your
marriage, visit www.foryourmarriage.org.
Marriage – Love and Life In The Divine Plan: Marriage and the Kingdom of God A marriage that is truly in
Christ, a marriage upon which his school of gratitude and openness has left its mark of joy and warmth, is a sign of
the Kingdom that is coming. It is a blessing to the couple, to their children, and to everyone who knows them. It
offers a sign of hope and a loving witness to human dignity in a world where hope often seems absent and human
dignity is often degraded. It is a sign of the Kingdom because the love of Christ moves the married couple to ever
greater heights of love. Look what the United States Catholic Bishops are saying about marriage
