GENUINE RICHES
Cheating and sharp dealing in
our lives serve no good. Only
sorrow is to be found that way.
But there is a bargain we
regularly make before God to
“forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those
who trespass against us.” We can be astute in
order to find our salvation. We can gain trust
before God and our neighbors and find the
genuine riches of the “tents of eternity” and of
our grace-full share in divine life. We can reach
full knowledge of the truth, Christ Jesus, the
mediator between God and humankind.

“Memories of Father Jim”
On December 18th,
Saturday, as a parish
community, we will
remember the anniversary of
Fr. Jim’s death. The Mass
will be celebrated at 5:00pm. Bishop William Murphy will be the principal celebrant
at this Mass. We will be combining the
5:00pm and 7:00pm Masses. At this Mass,
we will proclaim many of the beautiful
memories of Fr. Jim’s life.
Leading up to this date, I would like
people, now, to start writing down their
memories of Fr. Jim and hand them into
the parish office. In the bulletin each week
we will include a “Memories of Father Jim”
section.
By Father Chris
Submitted by: Odessa & Edward Mauro
My younger brother Ludwig had been battling cancer and doctors said there was nothing else they
could do. My brother chose to stay at home for the
remainder of the time.
On a hot July 12, 2005 afternoon, I called Fr. Jim to
request his presence at my brother’s home to administer him last rites. Father Jim explained to me he
was returning from the airport having dripped off
his parents. He asked if we would mind if he
showed up in shorts? Well. of course not, it was
July and very warm. Fr. Jim came over, he was
very gracious and met with the entire family for little counseling. Fr. Jim made mention of the fact
that my brother was only 50 year old and said he
was rather young. He then went into my brother’s
room to administer the last rites. My brother passed
away that evening. Father Jim honored us with his
presence at Ludwig’s wake and funeral Mass.
Three years later, he once again honored us with his
presence at my mother’s funeral Mass. Whenever
he would see us, he’d ask how we were and how
was everything. He knew our sadness because of
our loss.
He had mentioned my brother was too your to die,
and little did we know that at such a tender age of
46, we would also lose him to the same disease that
afflicted by little brother. Father Jim knows that we
loved him and we’ll continue to hold him in our
highest regards and always in our prayers.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul
In today’s Gospel, we see that
prudent decisiveness means that we
recognize that all choices in daily
living are really choices for eternal
life. Admission into heaven is something money
cannot buy. The only currency that has any
value to secure our entrance is that of love.
What Jesus is trying to tell us is that
money is a good servant but a bad master.
When it is employed as a servant, it can bring joy
and comfort to millions and especially to those
who have little or none of it But let it become our
master, it can be a tyrant. It can harden our
hearts and blind our vision of the realities of our
existence. Millions of dollars passed through the
hands of St. Vincent and he always used it for
the benefit of the poor. As you continue to
support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, know
that you are a sign of God’s love to those who
are suffering.
Have you considered answering the call to
help serve the poor by joining the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul? Our next meeting is Tuesday,
September 21st at 12:30PM in the Conference
Room of the Parish Center. Join us and see how
God can work through you

All three readings for this weekend deal with the subject of faithful stewardship challenging us to use
our blessings to build up his kingdom in our lives.
Condemning the crooked business practices of the eighth century (BC) Jewish merchants of Judea, the
prophet Amos, in the first reading, reminds the Israelites to be faithful to their Covenant with Yahweh by
practicing justice and mercy as God’s faithful stewards. He warns us against making money by any means as
the goal of our life. In the second reading, Paul’s letter to Timothy, he instructs the first century JudeoChristians to become true stewards of the gospel of Jesus, the only mediator, by preaching the “good news”
to the pagans and including them in intercessory prayers.
The Gospel story about the crooked but resourceful manager challenges us to use our blessings -time, talents, health and wealth -- wisely and shrewdly so that they will count for our good in eternity. We
are on the right road only if we use our earthly wealth to attain our heavenly goal.
We need to be faithful in the little things of life: As Saint John Chrysostom said, "Faithfulness in
little things is a big thing." Hence, let us not ignore doing little things like dropping someone an
encouraging note or extending people a simple, "Thank you” and taking time out of our workday to
help others in small things. As Blessed Mother Teresa used to recommend, “Do little things with great
love.”
We need to be prepared to give an account of our life. We are all stewards of what God has entrusted
to us. Hence some day we will have to give Him an account of our stewardship. We prepare ourselves for all
kinds of things, most of which never happen. But do we care enough for our souls to insure ourselves
against the one thing that most certainly will happen? We must meet God, and give an account of our lives.
Then the only thing that will count in our favor is the testimony of those who will say, "Lord, when I was
really in need he gave to me, at cost to himself. He helped me."

alcanzar nuestra meta celestial.
