Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,
Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,
This article marks my last time writing as administrator of Our Lady of Fatima. On July 1, Fr. Jim Ries will become the pastor of
our great community and I am looking forward to welcoming him. For me, these past 6 months have flown by and I was happy to
have had the opportunity to guide this community. I want to offer many thanks to our staff. They do so much with so little so as to
better serve this community. We have an incredible amount of volunteers that help out so much in big and little ways. Many thanks
to all of our volunteers, as well. Thanks to everyone for your prayers for our parish as we continue to grow into disciples of the Lord
and draw others into his love.
Of course, now we turn our attention to welcoming Fr. Jim. I ask for your prayers for him – this week especially. I know that it is
hard for him to leave his spiritual home of 11 years at St. Mary’s in Fullerton and he will be missing the people there. I also know
that he is excited to begin his ministry at Our Lady of Fatima and make this his new spiritual home. In addition to the joys and
pains of the interior life, he has to move all of his stuff down here and get settled into a new apartment, as well! It is the life of
a priest, but being a priest does not make it any easier. I know he will greatly benefit from our immediate support and constant
prayers for him.
To end on a lighter note, if you are not a soccer fan, this would be a good time to start enjoying it. This World Cup has been thrilling and (as of this writing) the USA is looking really good. I know that it is ‘just a game,’ but the World Cup is an important symbol
for what is right with our world. If nothing else, we can take solace that, despite our differences, when we have a common goal we
are united. Go USA!
Este artículo es el ultimo que escribo como administrador de Nuestra Señora de Fátima. El 1ro de julio, el Padre Jim Ries será
el párroco de nuestra gran comunidad y lo estoy esperando para darle una bienvenida calurosa. Para mí, estos últimos 6 meses
han pasado bien rápido y yo estoy feliz de haber tenido la oportunidad de guiar a esta comunidad. Quiero dar muchas gracias a
los empleados de nuestra iglesia. Ellos hacen tanto con poco con el fin de servir mejor a la comunidad. Tenemos una cantidad
de voluntarios increíbles que ayudan en formas grandes y pequeños. Muchas gracias a todos los voluntarios, también. Gracias a
todos por sus oraciones y apoyo para nuestra parroquia mientras seguimos creciendo en ser discípulos del Señor y atraer a otros a
su amor.
Por supuesto, ahora ponemos nuestra atención a la bienvenida del Padre Jim. Les pido sus oraciones por él - esta semana especialmente. Sé que es difícil para él dejar su hogar espiritual de 11 años en la iglesia de Santa Maria en Fullerton y él va a extrañar la
gente de allí. También sé que él está feliz de comenzar su ministerio en Nuestra Señora de Fátima y tener nuestra comunidad como
su nuevo hogar espiritual. Además de las alegrías y los dolores de la vida interior, él tiene que mover todas sus cosas acá y establecerse en un departamento nuevo, también! Es la vida de un sacerdote, pero al ser un sacerdote no lo hace más fácil. Yo sé que él
se beneficiará mucho de nuestro apoyo inmediato y oración constante por él.
Para terminar con una nota más ligera, si usted no es un aficionado al fútbol, éste

sería un buen momento para empezar a disfrutarlo. Esta Copa Mundial ha sido emocionante y (a partir de este escrito) los EE.UU. están jugando bien y México, también. Yo sé
que es “sólo un juego,” pero el torneo es un símbolo importante para lo que es correcto con nuestro mundo. Por lo menos, podemos tomar consuelo de que, a pesar de nuestras diferencias, cuando tenemos un objetivo común, estamos unidos. ¡Vamos USA!

Formación de Fe para Niños
JULY 14-18, 9AM - NOON
Registration for Faith Formation for Children (FFC) for the 20142015 school year is now open! You are invited to register your children for our FFC and Sacramental Prep program. You can registers
at our parish office from 9am-6pm Monday thru Friday. We’ll be
hosting a parent meeting on September 10 at 7pm. At this meeting,
you’ll receive a parent handbook, and meet our FFC teachers and
volunteers. Classes will begin on September 24. If you have any questions please contact Rosa Rama at 492-4101 or [email protected].
Spaces are limited, so register as soon as possible! A fee of $60 per participant is due with
the registration form. Registration for both
participants and volunteers can be found on

Niños, año escolar 2014/2015. Se aceptan niños de Primero a Octavo
grado escolar. Se les invita a que inscriban a su(s) hijo(s) para la
preparación Sacramental y formación de fe en la oficina parroquial
de lunes a viernes de 9am a 6pm. Tendremos una reunión para los

OLF Parishioner Honored
as Volunteer of the Year
Parishioner Doug Batezel was recently honored by Catholic Detention Ministry as it’s Volunteer of the Year. Doug has been visiting
the incarcerated in our county jails for nine years. He currently ministers at the Theo Lacy Facility, a maximum security jail in the city
of Orange. When asked why he was called to detention ministry,
Doug responded that he wanted to demonstrate to the inmates that
there are people who care about them – to show God’s love. Doug
is motivated by the belief that “God doesn’t make junk.” Thank you
Doug, for your witness.
“Go in peace to love and to serve the Lord.” You hear words like
these right before you leave Mass. We are being sent. “For if we have
received the love which restores meaning to our lives, how can we
fail to share that love with others?” – Pope Francis. How are we as
a community to love and serve the Lord? Join the Social Awareness
Leadership Team (SALT) for a casual mixer to learn how this group
has been responding to this question. Please RSVP by July 13 to Lisa

hosted at a parishioner’s home so you must RSVP to get address and
directions.

Marriage Encounter Weekend
The parish office will be closed Friday, July 4 through Sunday, July
6 so our staff can celebrate the Independence Day holiday weekend.
We’ll be back open at 9am on Monday, July 7.

Weekly Falcon Fun Summer Camp!
JULY 7—AUGUST 22 / 8AM - 4PM, MONDAY - FRIDAY
Open to all children entering kindergarten through 8th grade. Positive reinforcement from caring adults, the thrill of summer activities,
the sharing of adventures with a group of friends, and the chance
to participate in summer fun activities are many of the reasons for
sending your child to OLF’s summer camp program. Each camp day
is planned to compliment the theme of the week and may include
science, crafts, games, technology and light academics. Weekly field
