Solemnidad de todos los fieles difuntos
La tradición de rezar por los muertos se remonta a los primeros
tiempos del cristianismo, en donde ya se honraba su recuerdo y
se ofrecían oraciones y sacrificios por ellos.
Cuando una persona muere ya no es capaz de hacer nada para
ganar el cielo; sin embargo, los vivos sí podemos ofrecer nuestras obras para que el difunto alcance la salvación.
Con las buenas obras y la oración se puede ayudar a los seres
queridos a conseguir el perdón y la purificación de sus pecados
para poder participar de la gloria de Dios.
A estas oraciones se les llama sufragios. El mejor
sufragio es ofrecer la Santa Misa por los difuntos.
Debido a las numerosas actividades de la vida
diaria, las personas muchas veces no tienen tiempo
ni de atender a los que viven con ellos, y es muy
fácil que se olviden de lo provechoso que puede ser
la oración por los fieles difuntos. Debido a esto, la
Iglesia ha querido instituir un día, el 2 de noviembre, que se dedique especialmente a la oración por
aquellas almas que han dejado la tierra y aún no llegan al cielo.
La Iglesia recomienda la oración en favor de los difuntos y también las limosnas, las indulgencias y las obras de penitencia para
ayudarlos a hacer más corto el periodo de purificación y puedan
llegar a ver a Dios. "No dudemos, pues, en socorrer a los que
han partido y en ofrecer nuestras plegarias por ellos".
Nuestra oración por los muertos puede no solamente ayudarles,
sino también hacer eficaz su intercesión a nuestro favor. Los que
ya están en el cielo interceden por los que están en la tierra para
que tengan la gracia de ser fieles a Dios y alcanzar la vida
eterna.
Para aumentar las ventajas de esta fiesta litúrgica, la Iglesia ha
establecido que si nos confesamos, comulgamos y rezamos el
Credo por las intenciones del Papa entre el 1 y el 8 de noviembre, “podemos ayudarles obteniendo para ellos indulgencias, de
manera que se vean libres de las penas temporales debidas por
sus pecados”. (CEC 1479)

The Commemoration Of The Faithful And Departed
All Souls Day is a holy day set aside for honoring the dead.
The day is primarily celebrated in the Catholic Church, but it
is also celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox Church and a few
other denominations of Christianity. The Anglican church is
the largest protestant church to celebrate the holy day. Most
protestant denominations do not recognize the holiday and
disagree with the theology behind it.
According to Catholic belief, the soul of a person who dies
can go to one of three places. The first is heaven, where a
person who dies in a state of perfect grace and communion
with God goes. The second is hell, where those who die in a
state of mortal sin are naturally condemned by their choice.
The intermediate option is purgatory, which is thought to be
where most people, free of mortal sin, but still in a state of
lesser (venial) sin, must go.
Purgatory is necessary so that souls can be cleansed and
perfected before they enter into heaven. There is scriptural
basis for this belief. The primary reference is in 2 Maccabees,
12:26 and 12:32. "Turning to supplication, they
prayed that the sinful deed might be fully blotted
out... Thus made atonement for the dead that
they might be free from sin."
Additional references are found in Zechariah,
Sirach, and the Gospel of Matthew. Jewish tradition also reinforces this belief as well as the tradition and teaching of the Church, which has been
affirmed throughout history.
Consistent with these teachings and traditions,
Catholics believe that through the prayers of the
faithful on Earth, the dead are cleansed of their
sins so they may enter into heaven.
The belief in purgatory has not been without controversy. Certainly, some flagrant abuses of the doctrine were
used to raise money for the Church during the renaissance.
Famously, Martin Luther argued with the monk, Johan Tetzel,
over the sale of indulgences. Indulgences were sold as spiritual pardons to the poor and applied to the souls of the dead
(or the living) to get people into heaven. The abuse of indulgences and the blatant, sometimes fraudulent practice of selling indulgences for money, led to Luther's protest.
When Martin Luther translated the Bible into German, he
omitted the seven books of the canon which refer to prayers
for the dead. He then introduced the heretical belief that people are simply saved, or not, and argued that there is no
need to pray for the dead to get them into heaven.
The Church reeled from Luther's accusation, and reformed its
practice of selling indulgences. However, it reemphasized the
Biblical and traditional practice of praying for the departed
and the importance of such prayers.
All Souls Day is celebrated in much of the western world on
November 2. Other rites have their own celebrations. The
Eastern Orthodox Church has several such days throughout
the year, mostly on Saturdays. All Souls Day is not a holy day
of obligation. It should not be confused with All Saints' Day,
which is a holy day of obligation.
Many cultures also mark the day differently. In North America,
Americans may say extra prayers or light candles for the departed. In parts of Latin America, families visit the graves of
their ancestors and sometimes leave food offerings for the
departed.

partido al mas allá, por favor si desea traiga la foto de su ser querido y
póngalo junto a este altar, Habrá también sobres a la entrada de la parroquia, para que anoten en ellos el nombre de sus familiares, podrán
también poner ahí una donación, todos los sobres con los nombres de
sus seres queridos irán dentro de un cofre junto al altar y se ofrecerá la
misa por ellos. Gracias que Dios les Bendiga!
On Monday November 2nd we will have an 8:00am Mass and a 6:30
pm (Bilingual Mass). There will be an altar dedicated to our loved ones
who have died, please bring a photo of your beloved
ones and place it beside the altar, at the entrance of the
parish we will have, envelopes for you to write the
names of your deceased family members, you may give
your donation. All the envelopes will go in a chest beside the altar, and the Mass will be offered for them.

ANHELAMOS VER EL ROSTRO DE DIOS
“Esta es la raza de los que buscan tu rostro Señor”. Esta
antífona para el salmo responsorial de hoy brinda el tono de la
lecturas de hoy. Cuando en la tierra celebramos la victoria de
todos los santos, de los que están canonizados oficialmente por
la Iglesia y de los sinnúmero que también han llegado al cielo,
no sumamos nada a su gloria. Sino que recibimos un motivo
más para tener esperanzas. Nosotros, también, anhelamos ver el
rostro de Dios y creemos que un día podremos estar entre aquellos cuyas túnicas, como nos dice Juan en el libro del Apocalipsis, han sido lavadas y blanqueadas “con la sangre del Cordero”.
El pasaje de la primera carta del apóstol San Juan nos garantiza que somos hijos de Dios y
un día veremos a Dios tal cual es. Pero el Evangelio de hoy nos hace pasar del anhelo y la certeza a la acción. Jesús nos dice claramente qué debemos hacer para estar entre los santos. Debemos ser pobres de espíritu, misericordiosos, limpios de corazón, tener hambre y sed de justicia y trabajar por la paz. Entonces, nosotros también veremos el rostro de Dios.
