10:2 As Catholics we are all called to serve in ministry. However, many of us are unsure how to use our talents and gifts to
build God’s Church. Talk to God and ask Him what He wants
you to do. The next time one of your fellow parishioners asks
you to help or join a committee, it may be the answer to your
prayer.

Due to enhanced legislation from the Department of Labor.
Like every employer, we are bound by labor regulations set
forth by the State of Texas and the federal government. Our
employees are classified as non-exempt which means after 40
hours per week, we are required to pay overtime. The
Archdiocesan Legal Department gave a talk outlining best
practices. When employees are contacted via phone, text or
email outside of regular office hours, they are working. This
means we have to pay them for that time. In order to keep our
budget under control, we must keep overtime to a bare minimum. This also encourages a good work/life balance. We ask
that parishioners please respect our employees’ family time by
only contacting them during their work hours unless it is an
emergency.

Bible School
July 25 – 29 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
At Pets unleashed VBS, kids dig into Jesus’
loving care through a relatable, pet-inspired adventure! This
VBS is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids
see, hear, and touch. Team-building games, cool Bible songs
and multisensory Bible Adventures are just a few of the activities that help faith flow into real life. (Since everything is
hands-on, kids might get a little messy. Be sure to send them
in play clothes and sturdy shoes.)
Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.
K thru 5th – Children are placed in classes based on
their grade level for 2015 – 16.
Registration fee: (Non-Refundable) $25.00 per child –
This amount includes daily curriculum, craft supplies
and activities for the week. Registration forms may
be picked up at the Faith Formation Office located in
the Parish Life Center. Submit your completed VBS
forms along with payment to the Faith Formation
Office.

VBS can only happen with your support – Volunteers are
needed volunteer forms are available in the Faith Formation
Office. Childcare is provided for our volunteers. Volunteers

WHAT IS A PARISH
PASTORAL COUNCIL?
A parish pastoral council is
the chief consultative body to the pastor.
Consultation is a sharing of wisdom that enables
the parish to carry out its mission. The pastoral
council discerns issues that impact the lives of
parishioners, prays, studies, and discusses
those issues, and recommends practical ways
of addressing them.
HOW DOES A PARISH PASTORAL
COUNCIL OPERATE?
A council meets once a month with the pastor to
consider pastoral issues. It listens carefully to the
concerns of the pastor, the parish staff and
others involved in the life of the parish. Through
prayer and discernment it searches for the
guidance of the Holy Spirit and reaches decisions
through consensus. Sacred Heart of Jesus
Parish Pastoral Council meets the second
Monday of each month from 7:00pm to 8:30 pm.
Regular attendance at meetings is critical.
WHO SHOULD BE A MEMBER OF A PARISH
PASTORAL COUNCIL?
A council member should be at least of high
school age, prayerful, care about the spiritual
well-being of the entire community, be willing to
learn about the universal Church, have a sense
of mission: to bring Christ to people and people
to Christ, and be involved in the life and activities
of the parish. A council member must be
prepared to make a sincere commitment and
attend meetings consistently.

It is necessary to attend the Information Meeting
on Monday, August 8th, at 7:30 p.m. in the
Parish Life Center. We anticipate the meeting
to last about an hour. It will also be necessary to
attend the Parish Pastoral Council Discernment
process on Saturday, August 13th, from 11:00
a.m. to 1:00 pm in the Parish Life Center. Please
prayerfully consider being a part of our Parish
Pastoral Council.

We Listened to Your Suggestions!
Faith Formation Secretary
Happy Sunday!! This is Michele, your Business
Administrator. Every week we publish collections,
our loan balance and DSF updates in the bulletin.
Happily, we no longer have to report our loan
progress since we PAID IT OFF!! I used to
regularly give other updates on the business side of
the church. I need to return to that practice to show
that we are being good stewards to our parishioners.
Our great shepherd, Fr. Tom has prayed about what
our church needs to best serve our parishioners. I
know he has talked to a lot of you about many
things. Parishioners also participated in listening
sessions. Your parish councils, committees and
staff listened.
We have had some personnel changes. We recently
lost our dear, sweet DRE, Connie Bowers. She will
always have a special place here at Sacred Heart of
Jesus! CCE has become Faith Formation. This is a
lifelong process and our staff and activities will now
represent that. Yvette O’Brien is now the
Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation.
Rebecca Brodigan is now our Coordinator of Youth
and Young Adult Faith Formation. Ariel Allion (aka
Ariel Mendoza, congratulations on your wedding!)
is now our Coordinator of Adult and Family Faith
Formation. These ladies do need assistance from our
parish. Please consider giving of your time and
talents. You can email one of them or call

We recently had the Parish Life Center interior
painted, outside windows washed and the front
entrance washed. The church and three of the little
buildings received new roofs! The trim on the
outside of the church was also painted. We are busy
working on more projects to maintain and beautify
our current grounds and facilities.
We could not accomplish what we do without
YOU! We need your time. We need your talent.
We need your treasure! Thank you for your
generosity thus far!
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community, a parish of over
3,200 families in the Manvel area South of Houston, is
seeking a full-time, bi-lingual Faith Formation Secretary. The
Faith Formation Secretary performs general secretarial and
administrative duties, routine clerical and typing work. This is
a full-time, 40 hours per week, Non-Exempt position that
reports to the administratively to the Business Administrator
and supports the Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation,
the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Faith Formation,
the Coordinator of Adult and Family Faith Formation as well
as the Pastor, as needed.
Some of the important duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides receptionist services for the parish and Faith
Formation offices. Answers the phone in a polite, cheerful
manner. Graciously greets people, answer their questions or
direct them to the appropriate place. Lock and unlock
classrooms and cabinets for all Faith Formation classes.
Translate information into Spanish as requested. Maintain files
as requested. Make copies as requested.
Collect Baptismal Certificates for First Communion, Special
Sacraments and Confirmations. Assist with mail outs (copies,
addressing and stuffing envelopes). Collect and record Faith
Formation payments (issue receipts and log information).
Provide assistance as needed. Assist Faith Formation teachers
as requested. Maintain and distribute Faith Formation
correspondence (calendars, parental letters, etc.).
Record Sacraments in the appropriate Sacramental Registers
per Archdiocesan guidelines. Provide phone assistance for the
Parish Secretary when needed. Process Faith Formation
registrations. Provide staff coverage for evening building
usage which includes locking up rooms and buildings. Other
duties as assigned. Assist with the Church bazaar as
requested. Will involve evening and weekend hours.
Skills/Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of personal computers, including
Microsoft Office Products (Excel and Word). Good analytical
and problem-solving skills. Ability to operate standard office
equipment including but not limited to computers, copiers,
calculators and facsimile machines. Ability to follow oral and
written instructions. High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum three years of experience of varied and progressive
secretarial work. Fluent in English and Spanish, both written
and oral, with the ability to communicate effectively both
verbally and in writing (English and Spanish) with staff,
employees and public. Availability includes evenings and
weekends. Individual must have well-developed people skills
in interacting with all who come into the offices.
Individual must have the ability to maintain confidentiality in
all matters. Ability to multi-task and work with interruptions.
Understanding of the Sacraments in the Catholic Church.

Como todo empleador, estamos obligados por las mismas
reglas de trabajo establecidas por el gobierno federal y el
estado de Texas. Nuestros empleados se clasifican como no

“Manteniendo Viva la Promesa”
Es un curso mandatorio de renovación que fue efectivo en el
2011-2012.Empleados y voluntarios son requeridos de atender
“Manteniendo Viva la Promesa” después de cinco años de
haber atendido el programa “Protegiendo a los niños de Dios”.
Es una sesión de hora y media que contiene un video que
provee concientización continua para prevenir abuso sexual de
niños. El material que se cubre en “Manteniendo Viva la
Promesa” es diseñado para identificar y reforzar las lecciones
del programa original “Protegiendo a los niños de Dios”,
clarificando algunos de los aspectos de las sesiones con más
retos y fortalece la habilidad de los participantes a reconocer
conductas riesgosas de los adultos en su entorno y tomar
acción para prevenir situaciones que amenacen situaciones
potencialmente. El curso en español de “Manteniendo Viva la
Promesa” se estará llevando a cabo en la parroquia Sacred
Heart of Jesus Catholic Community en la fecha siguiente:

¡¡¡Feliz Domingo!!!! Soy Michele, la administradora de
negocios. Cada semana publicamos colecciones, el saldo
del préstamo y DSF actualizaciones en el boletín. ¡Gracias
a Dios, ya no tenemos que informarles de nuestros
progresos del préstamo ya que está PAGADO! Antes
regularmente daba información sobre los negocios de la
parroquia. Necesito volver a esa práctica para
demostrarles que estamos siendo buenos administradores
de nuestros feligreses. Nuestro gran Pastor, el Padre Tom
ha orado acerca de lo que nuestra Iglesia necesita para
servir mejor a nuestros feligreses. Sé que ha hablado con
muchos de ustedes acerca de muchas cosas. Ustedes, los
feligreses, también han participado en sesiones del que el
Padre ha hablado en. ¡Su Consejo Pastoral, los ministerios
y el personal hemos escuchado sus consejos!
Hemos tenido algunos cambios de personal.
Recientemente perdimos a nuestra querida, y dulce DRE,
Connie Bowers. ¡Ella siempre tendrá un lugar especial
aquí en el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús! CCE se ha
convertido en Formación de Fe. Este es un proceso para
toda la vida y nuestro personal y actividades ahora lo
representaran. Yvette O'Brien ahora es la Coordinadora de
Formación de fe para niños en Primaria. Rebecca
Brodigan es la Coordinadora de Formación de Fe para los
Jóvenes y Jóvenes Adultos. Ariel Allion (muy pronto
Ariel Mendoza, ¡felicidades en tu casamiento!) ahora es la
Coordinadora de Formación de Fe para Adultos y Familia.
Estas damas necesitan la ayuda de nuestra parroquia. Por
favor considere dar su tiempo y talentos. Puede

Recientemente tuvimos el interior del Centro de Vida
parroquial pintado, las ventanas de afuera fueron lavadas
y la entrada principal lavado también. ¡La Iglesia y tres
de los edificios chicos recibieron nuevos techos! La
moldura en la parte exterior de la Iglesia también fue
pintada. Estamos trabajando en muchos más proyectos
para mantener y embellecer nuestros actuales terrenos e
instalaciones. ¡No podemos ni podríamos lograr lo que
queremos hacer sin TI! Necesitamos de tu tiempo y
talento. ¡Necesitamos de tu tesoro!

Secretaria para Formación de Fe
La Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jeas Comunidad Católica es una
Parroquia de más de 3,200 fam9iliasen la área de Manvel que esta al
sur de Houston, Nosotros estamos buscando a una secretaria para
Formación de Fe que sea bilingüe y tendría que trabajar tiempo
completó. La secretaria de formación de fe necesita poder hacer
trabajos generales de secretaria y administrativos también trabajos
rutinas de la oficina. Esta posición es de tiempo competo, 40 horas a la
semana y reporta administrativamente a la administradora de negocios
y ayudara a la Coordinadora de formación de fe de Primaria, a la
Coordinadora de formación de fe de los Jóvenes y Adultos Jóvenes, y
a la Coordinadora de formación de fe de Adultos y Familias, también
tendría que asistir al Padre cuando sea necesario.
Algunas de las funciones importantes incluyen, pero no se
limitan a:
Proporciona servicios de recepcionista para la parroquia y
oficina de Formación de Fe. Contesta el teléfono de una manera
amable, y alegre. Generosamente saluda a la gente, responder a
sus preguntas y los dirigiré a los lugares apropiados. Abrir y
cerrar las clases y los gabinetes para Formación de Fe. Traducir
información a español cuando sea necesario. Mantener archivos
cuando sea necesario. Hacer copias cuando sea necesario.
Recibir actas de bautismo para la primera comunión,
Sacramentos Especiales y confirmaciones. Ayudar con envíos
de correo (copias, direccionamiento y llenar sobres). Recoger y
registrar los pagos de Formación de Fe (dar recibos y registrar
información). Proporcionar asistencia según sea necesario.
Ayudar a las maestras de Formación de Fe cuando sea
necesario. Mantener y distribuir la correspondencia Formación
Fe (calendarios, cartas para los padres, etc.). Registrar
Sacramentos en los correspondientes Registros Sacramentales
según las reglas de la Arquidiócesis. Proporcionar asistencia
telefónica a la Secretaria de la Parroquia cuando sea necesario.
Procesar registraciones para Formación de Fe. Proporcionar
ayuda al personal en las tardes cuando el edificio este ocupado,
que significa cerrar los cuartos y el edifico. Otras tareas que le
sean asignadas. Ayudar en el bazar de la Iglesia conforme
cuando sea necesario. Implicará horarios en las noches y los
fines de semana. Habilidades / Calificaciones:
Conocimiento avanzado de computadoras personales,
incluyendo productos de Microsoft Office (Excel y Word).
Buenas habilidades analíticas y poder resolver problemas.
Capacidad para operar equipo de oficina, incluyendo pero no limitado
a las computadoras, copiadoras, calculadoras y máquinas de fax.
Capacidad para seguir instrucciones orales y escritas. Diploma de la
Preparatoria o su equivalente. Un mínimo de tres años de experiencia
de trabajo de secretaría variada y progresiva. Fluyente en Inglés y
Español, tanto oral como escrito, con la capacidad de comunicarse
efectivamente tanto de forma oral y por escrito (Inglés y Español) con
el personal, empleados y público. Disponibilidad incluye noches y los
fines de semana. La persona debe tener habilidades de la gente bien
desarrollados en la interacción con todos los que entran en las oficinas.
La persona tiene que tener la capacidad de mantener la confidencialidad en todos los asuntos. Capacidad para hacer una multitud de cosas
