INICIACIÓN AL PUNTO HORQUILLA / INTRODUCTION TO HAIRPIN LACE

Basic Instructions
N
Hairpin lace is made by using an H shaped metal loom and
a crochet hook.
Cuanto más espacio hay entre varillas, más ancha nos
quedará la tira y el trabajo del interior de la varilla será
mucho más espectacular.
The more space there is between the metal rods of the loom,
the wider the strip, and the more intricate the work on the
inside of the loom becomes.
El trabajo resultante son unas tiras que se obtienen
enrollando el hilo alrededor de la varilla y con el ganchillo
se trabaja el centro de la misma en forma de variaciones
de corazón. Es como se denomina el trabajo que se va
haciendo en el interior de la varilla.
The strips are made by wrapping the yarn around the H shaped
loom, then the loops are held together by working a crochet
stitch in the centre of each wrap.

Useful tips

Es importante no trabajar con el hilo tirante para que no
se ajusten las varillas. Son de un material no muy duro y
entonces la tira no quedaría recta.
It’s important to not pull the yarn too tightly when wrapping it
around the loom which is not very hard and may be distorted
resulting in an uneven or wavy strip.

Cuando se hace una tira muy larga no cabe en la horquilla,
para trabajar correctamente se hace lo siguiente: Se sacan
las anillas de la varilla, volviendo a introducir las 4 últimas
para proseguir el trabajo. La tira que cuelga se deberá
enrollar y sujetar con un imperdible en el bajo de la varilla
para que al ir girando, la labor no se nos enrolle. Y así tantas
veces como sea necesario dentro de una misma tira.
When making a long strip and no more wraps can be made on
the loom, to work correctly do the following: slip the rings off
the loom then replace the last four rings before continuing to
work. The part that hangs below the loom should be wound
up and secured with a large safety pin so that it doesn’t get
tangled up whilst working the strip.
Es imprescindible antes de empezar cualquier labor hacer
una muestra con la medida de la horquilla elegida y hacer
20 anillas, planchar la muestra y calcular la cantidad de
anillas que se necesitan para el largo deseado.
It’s very important to make a swatch using the correct size
loom with 20 wraps of yarn before starting any project. Block/
press the swatch and calculate the number of rings required
for the desired length.

Con las manos hacer una anilla y cerrar con
un nudo. Pasar la anilla por la varilla derecha
de la horquilla, pasar el hilo por detrás de la
varilla izquierda y dar la vuelta a la horquilla
de derecha a izquierda.
Make a ring with the fingers and tie it with a knot.
Place the ring onto the right side rod of the loom
and pass the yarn behind the left rod then turn the
loom from right to left to make the first wrap.

Con la mano izquierda sujetar el hilo y la
varilla izquierda entre los dedos pulgar e
índice. Coger el ganchillo con la mano
derecha, sujetar la varilla derecha entre
los dedos mayor (dedo corazón) y anular,
insertar el ganchillo dentro de la anilla y
trabajar 1 p. bajo.

Hold the yarn at left side rod with the left hand
between the thumb and index finger. Take the hook
in the right hand and whilst holding the right side
rod with the middle finger and the ring finger, insert
the hook inside the ring and work 1 sc.

Repetir los últimos 3 pasos en cada anilla
pueden trabajarse 2 p. bajos, puntos altos
o la combinación de los dos, depende de
cada muestra. Estos puntos formados en el
centro de la anilla forman el llamado corazón
de cada tira.
Repeat the last 3 steps for additional wraps and
when joining the stitches you can work 2 sc, dcs
or a combination of the two in each ring according
to the instructions given. After the correct number
of complete wraps have been made, fasten off and
slip the wraps from the loom.

Joining the strips
Una vez realizadas todas las tiras a la medida deseada,
se unirán entre sí. Hay diferentes formas de hacer estas
uniones, la básica:
After the designated number of strips have been made they can be
joined together in various ways.

una tira, trabajar 1 p. bajo, insertar
el ganchillo en la anilla de la otra
tira y hacer un punto bajo. Unir así

Otro tipo de unión sería agrupando

Basic join: Lay strips side by side with the
loops together. Insert hook into first loop
on one strip and make 1 sc. Insert hook
into first loop on second strip and work
1 sc. Continue joining in this manner until
the end of each strip.

Another way to join the strips is by
grouping together 3 loops from one strip
and working 1 sc and 2 ch sts, then group
together 3 loops from the other strip and
work 1 sc and 2 ch sts. Continue in this
manner.
These are the two basic ways to join the
strips but many different combinations
can be used.

Once all the strips have been joined finish off the edges to stop the
rings unravelling. As with joining the strips, there are two basic ways
to finish the edges: straight.

Remate agrupado
Agrupar 3 anillas trabajar 1 p. bajo,
5 p. de cadenetas, repetir hasta
terminar las anillas, se pueden variar
el número de anillas que se agrupan
y el número de cadenetas entre ellas
para obtener diferentes muestras.
Se pueden obtener tiras en forma
ondulada haciendo un remate
ondulado en cada lado de una tira
de forma que los grupos de anillas
queden intercalados.
Group edging

Group 3 rings together and work 1 sc
and 5 ch sts, repeat until all the rings
are finished. You can vary the number of
rings grouped together and the number
of ch sts worked between them to create
different finishes.
Strips with a wave form can be made
by working a wave finish on each side
of the strip whereby the groups of rings
are interwoven.

Punto Tunecino
Tunisian crochet
El punto tunecino se trabaja con un ganchillo pero diferente,
es más largo. Además la labor nunca se gira y cada vuelta
consta de dos fases, en la vuelta de ida (de derecha
a izquierda) se van sacando anillas que quedan en el
ganchillo.
En la vuelta de retorno se cierran las anillas de la primera
fase hasta que sólo queda una.
Tunisian crochet is worked with a hook which is slightly
different to a crochet hook being longer.
Furthermore, the work is never turned and each row consists
of 2 phases; on the outward row (from right to left) loops
are pulled out that remain on the hook. On the return row
the loops made in the first phase are closed until only one
remains.
