el
escenario de hip-hop solo
una radio estación desplaza
una limitada variedad de
música hip-hop pero el
locutor
David
“Kash
Kassanova” Vásquez, rapero
y productor del grupo rapper
Playaz Club quirere cambiar
el ambiente.
“No me mal entiendas. HipHop es más que cotorreo y
pantalones tumbados,” dijo.
Kassanova es escritor y
productor de una grabación
que llegó al lugar número
uno hace unos meses en la
estación de radio KNEX.
La grabación entitulada
“Whatcha
Wanna
Do”
conmovió el ritmo de hipsters
que
muy
pronto
se
encontraban bailando a la
cabeza al compas de la
música.
“Whatcha Wanna Do”
mantuvo el lugar número uno
durante tres semanas en
KNEX.
“A uno tocan la melodía en
“Estamos aquí para ganar. En diez años a la mejor me canso y me retiro.
Pero ahorita, me gusta mucho. Es como una enfermedad, que no me quita de
producir más música. Dios mismo es el único que me puede detener de
producir hip-hop.”

Playaz Club consiste de
dos artistas Vásquez y
Gilbert “Pimp G” Rodríguez.
Otros cantantes en el CD
incluye WolfDogg, Willie G,
Double G, Lil’ Mex, y
Melissa. Ellos han formado
su marca personal llamado
Underground Money Makaz.
Kash Kassanvoa promete a
todos esos que no querien
en el que lograra truinfar en
el ambiente de rap.
“Ya saben, apóyenos u
ódienos,” dice Kassanova los
que lo han escuchado.
“Estamos aquí para ganar.
En diez años a la mejor me
canso y me retiro. Pero
ahorita, me gusta mucho. Es
como una enfermedad, que
no me quita de producir más
música. Dios mismo es el
único que me puede detener
de producir hip-hop,” explica
Kassanova.
“No hay razón proque otros
aquí en Laredo nos odien.
Queremos colocar a Laredo
en primer lugar con nuestra
música,” dice Kassanova.
“Somos gente pura. Somos
buenos mientras que no
busquen
lo
peor
en
nosotros,” agregó “Pimp G”
Rodríguez.
“Kash” y “G” son amigos
desde hace cinco años.
Cuando estudiaban en
Nixon
High
School,
comenzaron a rimar frases y
en muy poco tiempo
presentaron su talento de rap
al público.
Comenzaron a presentarse
en fiestas, clubs y hasta en
sus mismos patios por tar de
practicar su talento.
“Promovimos
nuestro
producto, lo distribuimos,
hicimos todo por dar a
conocer a todos lo que
hacíamos,” dijo Kassanova.
“Además
promovimos
nuestro CD desde San
Antonio a College Station.”
Playaz
Club
se
a
presentado con grupos de
nombre como SPM, DJ Laz,
y Lyfestyl.
SPM’s Rasheed (rapper)
motivo a Kassanova a
vender su CD en la calle San
Bernardo considerado un
centro de buen ambiente.
“Esto es tu vida,” le dijo
Rasheed a Kassanova en un
concierto reciente.
Aunque la mayoría de su
presentación en el CD es
rap, Playaz Club’s también
presenta otra música con
fuerte compás y un compás
de hip-hop funk.
El album es novedoso
porque elimina sonidos
repetidos que se encuentra
en mucha música rap
dándole
un
ambiente
original. Lograron también
conservar un compás que es
original como su rima de
fraces.
Aunque el grupo es
clasificado
como
underground, a lo mejor es el
secreto más valioso de la
radio.
“Acaba de nacer mi primer
pequeño hace dos semanas.
Se llama Genesis Eve. Asi
que voy a poner más
esfuerzo para producir más
éxitos número uno. Estoy
muy
motivado,”
dice
Kassanova.
“Teniendo algo en la radio
fue un paso pequeño y no
gigante. Pero me siento
optimista de lograr un hit al
nivel nacional,” explica
Kassanova.

Laredo does not have a
hip-hop scene — just one
radio station that plays a
limited variety of hip-hop -and hardly any performers,
but David “Kash Kassanova”
Vasquez,
rapper
and
producer of the group Playaz
Club wants to change that.
“Don’t get it twisted. Hiphop is more than just slang
words and baggy pants,” he
said.
“Kassanova” is co-writer
and producer of a track that
had already reached the
number one slot a few
months back on local radio
station FM KNEX.
The track titled “Whatcha
Wanna Do” is a bouncy track
that had local hipsters
boppin’ their heads.
“‘Whatcha Wanna Do’ was
number one for three weeks
on FM KNEX. They still play
our song on our local radio. It
feels good in the morning
when I wake up and I listen

now I love it too much. It is like a disease, I just can’t quit making (creating)
music. God himself will make me stop producing hip-hop.”

Playaz Club consists of two
artists Vasquez and Gilbert
“Pimp G” Rodriguez.
Other local featured artists
on their CD are WolfDogg,
Willie G, Double G, Lil’ Mex,
and Melissa, who together
have their own record label,
Underground Money Makaz.
With his laid-back attitude,
“Kash Kassanova” promised
all the non-believers that he
will indeed succeed in the
rap game. So step back.
“Either support us, or hate
us,” said an overheated
Kash Kassanova.
“We are in it to win. Ten
years from now, I might be
tired and quit, but right now I
love it too much. It is like a
disease, I just can’t quit
making (creating) music.
God himself will make me
stop producing hip-hop,”
Kassanova said.
“There shouldn’t be a
reason for other Laredoans
to be hating us. We want to
put our city in the map with
our music,” he added.
While the ladies mostly love
“Kash,” the fellas mostly fear
“Pimp G.”
“We are down to earth
people. We are sweet and
nice as long as they don’t
push our buttons — we
remain friendly,” said Pimp
G.
“Kash” and “G” have been
acquaintances for more than
five years.
While attending Nixon
High School, they got the
idea of making rhymes. It
didn’t take long for them to
reveal their talent to the
public. Both would perform
at parties, clubs, or even
outside in their backyards.
“Now we push our product,
distribute it, and let people
know what we are doing,”
Kassanova
said.
“We
promote our CDs all the way
from San Antonio to College
Station.”
Playaz Club has been the
opening act for big names
such as SPM, DJ Laz, and
Lyfestyl.
SPM’s Rasheed (rapper)
motivated Kassanova to sell
tapes on San Bernardo’s
main strip.
“That is your meal ticket to
success,” Rasheed told
Kassanova at a recent
concert.
Though most of Playaz
Club’s CD work is rap, there
are several tracks with
intriguing beats spiced with
hip-hop funk.
What’s surprising about
the album is how fresh it all
sounds,
unlike
other
repetitious rap albums.
They lace up beats that are
just as original as their
rhymes. The group is
underground but probably is
radio’s
most
valuable
secret.
“I just had my first born two
weeks ago. Her name is
Genesis Eve. I will indeed
put extra effort now to
produce more hits since
now I’m more motivated
with
my
first
born,”
Kassanova said. “Having
local rotation on our radio
was just a baby step, it is
not a big step, but I’m
optimistic about climbing up
to a national level.”
