First semester flew by very
quickly. We just completed
the second nine week
benchmarks and I am happy to report our students
have made significant
gains. As we begin second
semester, I would like to
encourage all parents to
take more of an active role
on checking on their children’s homework and class
activities. We are gearing
up for the first Standards of
Learning test which is the
08 Writing and Multiple
Choice test in March. We
want all our students to
understand the importance
of passing the SOL’s. Please
have a conversation with
your child everyday about
academics. I would also like
to invite all parents to our
Black History program
scheduled for February
27th at 6:00. Please come
out for a fun filled educational program. As always,
thank you for all the
support you give us in
educating your child
and in molding them to
be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn
students.

Estudiantes de la clase de cívica atendieron la inauguracion presidencial
Three of our best 8th grade Eagles; Jessica Ramirez, Akiera Jones, Bryan Ruano traveled with Ms. Billet to
Washington DC to experience first hand the second inauguration ceremony for our President Barrack Obama.
Tres de nuestros mejores estudiantes de 8vo, Jessica Ramirez, Akeira Jones, Bryan Ruano viajaron a Washington, DC.
At the train station, we met up with
our superintendent Dr. Yvonne Brandon
Look who we ran into on our way to Capitol
Hill, Senator Tim Kaine and Anne Holton!
Almost there, even the bitter cold couldn’t
dampen our excitement,
Could one of these Boushall students
be the first African American female or
Hispanic President?
¿Podrá uno de estos estudiante ser el
el primer presidente hispano o
presidenta hispana o de raza negra?
We were interviewed by the Times Dispatch
and mentioned in a news article about the event.

CISR and the Guidance Department have launched the
Eagle Ambassadors program to assist our 8th graders
with educational endeavors and career exploration. We
host a Lunch & Learn Speaker’s Bureau each month
with community partners who will speak on their educational paths and career goals. It is an awesome way to
share nuggets of wisdom with the students regarding
the career choices and to help them broaden their horizons. Kudos to Ms. Harris-Lipford, Ms. Martin (both from
the AG’s office), and Ms. Harris (from CIS) for helping us
to have an awesome program launch!!
