“The family that prays together stays together. The holy rosary, by ageold tradition, has shown itself particularly effective as a prayer which
brings the family together. Individual family members, in turning their
eyes toward Jesus, also regain the ability to look one another in the eye,
to communicate, to show solidarity, to forgive one another and to see
their covenant of love renewed in the Spirit of God.”

The Pastor’s Desk
Dear Friends,
May the Lord give you peace!
Even in the throes of summer there is still a lot going on at
St. Mary’s! The carnival is right around the corner; it will be
held July 11-16. It’s a great week of fun and community! It’s not
too late to volunteer to help out at the carnival. The carnival is a
success because so many parishioners pitch in to make it a success.
Please contact Anne Silversey at the Parish Office to volunteer for
a night or two at the carnival!
Another great event is the Pathways 9th Annual Golf Outing
sponsored by Benefit Solutions. This year’s event takes place
Monday, August 15, at Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin, NJ. The
Shotgun Start is at 9 AM. The cost is $150 per golfer and includes
golf fees, cart, free range balls, gift bag, full breakfast and BBQ
buffet. To register call Benefit Solutions at 973.808.2888, ext. 210
or 223. Pathways is a great organization! Please come out and
support this very important and life-giving ministry!
A generous donor has given us four sets of tickets (4 each game)
to Yankees games! We will be selling raffle tickets for $10 each at
the Parish Office. The drawing is Friday, July 8. These are great
field-level tickets valued at $125 each.
I received a letter from Sister Lorraine of the Little Sisters of the
Poor in Totowa thanking us for our generosity to their collection.
The raised $6,104.50 when they were here earlier this month. As
always, thank you for your generosity!
Once again, congratulations to all our High School Graduates!
Thanks for a great week and best wishes for a great one to come!

A
re you searching for a church to call your own? Know any
adults who might be interested in joining our Franciscan
Community?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the
process by which adults are formally received into the Roman
Catholic Church, a process by which those who were never
baptized, were baptized in another Christian tradition or
Catholics who never received Confirmation or Eucharist can
complete the Sacraments of Initiation. This is a wonderful
opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more
about our faith.

primero a enterrar a mi padre”.
Mateo
16:13-19
Hoy celebramos a Pedro y Pablo. Pedro, primer predicador de la fe;

Sunday Readings
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: 1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21
Elijah the prophet followed God's instruction to appoint a man
named Elisha as his successor. Elijah threw his cloak over Elisha,
who went and said good-bye to his family, then followed Elijah
without question.
Second Reading: Galatians 5:1, 13-18
Paul reminds us that people were freed from the old law through
Christ. But he makes it clear that this freedom does not mean
giving in to evil desires. Instead, we must be guided by the Spirit
and most importantly love our neighbor as ourselves.
Gospel: Luke 9:51-62
Jesus set out for Jerusalem, and passed through a town where
he was not welcomed. He reprimanded his disciples for desiring
vengeance against the town. One man wanted to follow Jesus
when he had finished his duties at home. Jesus expressed that a
man who begins a task, but constantly looks back is unfit for the
reign of God.
