El Alcázar, un museo para eventos
[From the hands of the Grupo Botín. The Alcázar, an events Museum]
El Alcázar de Toledo, con su General como anfitrión, nos recibió junto con un numeroso grupo de invitados, la pasada noche del 4 de octubre,
para inaugurar oficialmente esta nueva andadura que, cargados de ilusión y proyectos, el Alcázar de Toledo y el Grupo Botín inician juntos.
Se trata de un proyecto muy estudiado que, en palabras de los gerentes de la Hacienda del Cardenal, desea convertir el Alcázar en el marco
de toda clase de eventos, tanto particulares como de empresa, y siempre desde el mayor de los respetos a un edificio tan histórico y emblemático como es el Alcázar.
Además el Grupo Botín se ha hecho cargo también de La cafetería y el restaurante que ya tenía el Alcázar. Ambos permanecerán abiertos
en el horario de apertura del Museo, pero también los viernes y sábados por la noche, así como la terraza de espectaculares vistas (siempre
que el tiempo lo permita, claro). Y la “joya” de este proyecto, el Patio de Armas o Patio Imperial del Alcázar, que estará abierto para la realización de eventos.
Según explicaba el director del Museo del Ejército, el General Antonio Izquierdo, desde hace 2 años, el Alcázar está siendo sede de exposiciones, congresos y seminarios. Ahora se da un paso más para acercar el museo a los ciudadanos, amén de ser una forma de financiación
alternativa para causar menos gasto al erario público en estos tiempos de crisis.

Nuevamente, Maria Dueñas hace un guiño a Botín
“Misión olvido”, la mejor historia
está siempre por vivir
[Again, María Dueñas “winks” at Botín. “Misión Olvido”, the best story is always yet to come]
La noche resultó perfecta: un marco incomparable, buena temperatura, música agradable, excelente compañía y deliciosa comida.
Nos alejamos de Toledo y al mirar por la ventanilla del coche le vemos a él, al Alcázar iluminado, grande y majestuoso como siempre, presidiendo la noche toledana como el viejo vigía de la ciudad… el Grupo Botín no puede imaginar un “partenaire” mejor.
The Alcázar of Toledo, with its General as host, welcomed us along with a
group of guests last 4 October to enthusiastically and officially inaugurate
this new phase that the Alcázar de Toledo and the Grupo Botín has began.
This is a very well-studied project, which according to the managers of the
Hacienda del Cardenal, wishes to convert the Alcázar into a framework for
all sorts of events, both private and company events, and always with full
respect towards the historic and emblematic building that is the Alcázar.
The Grupo Botín has also taken charge of the cafeteria and restaurant that
the Alcázar already has. Both will remain open during the Museum’s opening hours, but now Fridays and Saturdays as well, along with the terrace
and its spectacular views (as long as the weather permits, of course). The
true “star” of this project is its Bailey, or the Alcázar´s Imperial Patio, that
will be open for events.
As the Army Museum director, General Antonio Izquierdo, explained, for
2 years now the Alcázar has been holding exhibits, congresses and seminars.
Now it has taken another step to bring the museum closer to the people,
besides also being a financial alternative to reduce public costs during this
economic crisis.
The night was perfect: an incomparable setting, good temperature, pleasant
music, excellent company and delicious food.
As we now leave Toledo we look out our car window and see it, the Alcázar
lit up, large and majestic as always, presiding over the night like the city’s
old night watch…the Grupo Botín couldn’t imagine a better “partenaire.”
En esta ocasión, la escritora de Puertollano, residente en Cartagena, nos
presenta una novela diferente. La propia María Dueñas la describe como:
“Una novela de segundas oportunidades”.
This time the writer from Puertollano, resident of Cartagena, presents us a different
novel. María Dueñas describes it as:“A novel about second chances.”
Al igual que hizo en “El Tiempo entre costuras”, María Dueñas nos ha
hecho el inmenso honor de nombrarnos en su novela, concretamente en
el capítulo 17, página 187:

She succeeded with “El Tiempo entre costuras” (The Time Between Seams)
and is doing it again with her second novel “Misión Olvido”.
A lo largo de sus 512 páginas, “Misión olvido” nos presenta a Blanca Perea,
una mujer cuya vida acaba de pegar un giro personal y, por consecuencia,
profesional, que busca encontrarse a sí misma nuevamente… aunque serán muchas más las cosas que encuentre. La acción transcurre a caballo
entre España y Estados Unidos y tiene todos los ingredientes para atrapar
al lector.

Throughout its 512 pages, Misión Olvido presents us with Blanca Perea, a woman
whose life has just taken a personal turn, and therefore professional as well, trying
to find herself…even though she will find out much more as well.The action takes
place in parallel between Spain and the United States, and with all the elements
to hook the reader.
Just like she did in “El Tiempo Entre Costuras” (The Time Between Seams), María
Dueñas has given us the tremendous honour of referencing us in her novel, specifically in chapter 17, page 187:
“I’ve already told my daughter-in-law that I’m going to visit her at home early that
evening and roast a suckling pig that they’re bringing from my hometown, and it’s
going to turn out just as delicious as at Casa Botín”.

El madrileño Museo Thyssen cumple 20 años

El Museo Thyssen cumplió 20 años el pasado 8 de octubre y para celebrarlo la pinacoteca presenta la exposición “Gauguin
y el viaje a lo exótico”.
Jaime Ignacio González González nació en Madrid, el
19 de octubre de 1960. Está casado y tiene 3 hijos; y desde
el pasado mes de septiembre es el nuevo presidente de la
Comunidad de Madrid.
Licenciado en Derecho por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, gran parte de su trayectoria política ha transcurrido al
lado de Esperanza Aguirre. Primero en el Ayuntamiento de
Madrid, luego en el Ministerio de Educación, cultura y deporte y, finalmente, en el Gobierno de la Comunidad de Madrid.
En la actualidad preside la empresa pública que gestiona el
canal de Isabel II y ostenta la vicepresidencia del Comité Ejecutivo de IFEMA. En el último Congreso del PP fue designado por Mariano Rajoy.
Jaime Ignacio González González was born in Madrid
on 19 October, 1960. He is married with 3 children and since last
September is the new president of the Community of Madrid.
With a Law Degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a
large part of his career has been along side Esperanza Aguirre. First
in Madrid’s City Council, then in the Ministry of Education, culture
and sport, and finally in Madrid’s Community Government.
Currently he runs the public company managing the Isabel II Canal
and is vice president of the IFEMA Executive Committee. In the PP’s
last Congress he was appointed by Mariano Rajoy.
He loves music, sports and new technologies.The Grupo Botín would
like to wish the best of luck to the new president of the Madridians.
Es un gran aficionado a la música, el deporte y las nuevas
tecnologías. Desde Botín, queremos desearle la mejor de las
suertes al nuevo presidente de los madrileños.
Del 9 de octubre al 13 de enero, en el Thyssen podrán contemplarse más de 100 obras de Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), realizadas
en Tahití, así como de otros artistas como Matisse, Handinsky o Klee, que siguieron la pasión del pintor francés por lo primitivo y lo salvaje. Su concepto de la inocencia en la pintura le llevó a alejarse del Impresionismo y a no volver jamás a Europa.
Gauguin decidió permanecer en la polinesia. Su pintura se vio influida por este entorno tropical en el que la naturaleza y sus
aromas lo invaden todo, llevándole a cuidar especialmente la expresividad del color.
Es la primera vez que estas obras pueden verse en España, a excepción de dos de ellas pertenecientes a la colección particular
de la Baronesa Thyssen, Carmen Cervera. El resto de obras han sido cedidas por museos y colecciones de todo el mundo.
The Thyssen Museum turned 20 years old last 8 October and to celebrate, the pinacotheca presents the exhibit “Gauguin and the voyage
to the exotic.”
From 9 October to 13 January in the Thyssen you can contemplate more than 100 works by Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), made in Tahiti,
along with other artists such as Matisse, Kandinsky or Klee, who followed the French painter’s passion for the savage. His concept of innocence
in painting led him to distance himself from Impressionism and never return to Europe. Gauguin decided to stay in Polynesia. His paintings
were influenced by this tropical environment where nature and its aromas penetrate everything, making him pay special attention to colour’s
expressiveness.
This is the first time that these works can be seen in Spain, except for two of them which belong to the private collection of the Baroness Thyssen,
Carmen Cervera.The other paintings have been loaned by museums and collections around the world.
