STEWARDSHIP CORNER - LA ESQUINA DE STEWARDSHIP
“STEWARDSHIP”
TIME & TALENT - Weekend of September 22-23
What is “Time & Talent” Weekend? “Time & Talent Weekend” gives parishioners an opportunity to learn about the
different Ministries offered at St. Louis and invites them at the weekend Masses to consider joining a Ministry. Special talks will
be given at each Mass. We thank God for all the people, or rather “STEWARDS”, who work so hard in all our Ministries right
now. God Bless you all.
“Time & Talent” are two of the three T’s of Stewardship. The greatest misunderstanding about Stewardship is that
most people think it is all about money, the third “T” of Time, Talent and Treasure. Stewardship is really about Evangelization,
building your faith in Christ, and sharing your faith with others. Now is a wonderful time to prayerfully consider joining a
ministry, if you are not involved. And become more involved in our Faith community by giving of your Time and Talent. In our
Scriptures, “James 2:26” it says: Faith without works, is as dead as a body without breath. Your Time in prayer in Adoration
for instance, is magnificent.
New to our Parish of St. Louis? If you are new in the area, new to our parish, or you have been coming for awhile,
but you have not yet registered? We invite you to complete a parish registration form, which is available at the Welcome Table
located in the entrance of the church. Our Welcome Table is there to help. Please stop by and ask any questions you may
have. “WE ARE HERE TO SERVE YOU.”
“The promotion of the practice of Stewardship is important for the Mission of the Church and for the spiritual wellbeing of each individual Christian. Everyone benefits from the sacrificial gifts of our Time, Talent & Treasure.”

Treasure Tesoro
estás viniendo pero ¿no te has inscrito todavía?
- Papa
Benedicto XVI
EL PRÓXIMO FIN DE SEMANA, 22-23 DE SEPT. POR FAVOR VISITA EL FAMILY CENTER Y VER UNA MAGNIFICA
EXHIBICIÓN DE NUESTROS MINISTERIOS PARROQUIALES. MUCHOS DE NUESTROS MINISTERIOS TENDRAN
MESAS DONDE PUEDE HABLAR CON MIEMBROS DEL MINISTERIO PARA OBTENER INFORMACIÓN DE PRIMERA
MANO.

LECTIO DIVINA
A Personal Encounter with the Living Word of God
Mondays - beginning September 17 – 7:30 p.m.
WHAT IS LECTIO DIVINA?
Lectio Divina is a Latin term for “divine reading.” A practice strongly
recommended by Pope John Paul II, Archbishop Wenski, and Fr. Paul
Vuturo.
Pope Benedict XVI recently said “I would like in particular to recall and
recommend the ancient tradition of Lectio Divina. The diligent reading
of Sacred Scripture accompanied by prayer brings about that intimate
dialogue in which the person reading hears God who is speaking and in
praying, responds to him with trusting openness of heart (cf. Dei Verbum,
n.25). If it is effectively promoted, this practice will bring to the Church – I
am convinced of it.”
A NEW SPIRITUAL SPRINGTIME.”
In the 12th century, a Carthusian monk called Guigo, described the four
stages essential to the practice of Lectio Divina:
• LECTIO: The first step is lectio (reading) where we read the Word of
God, slowly and reflectively so that it sinks into us. Listening attentively
with the “ear of one’s heart.”
• MEDITATIO:The second step is meditatio (reflection) where we think
about the text we have chosen and ruminate upon it so that we take from
it what God wants to give us.
• ORATIO: The third step is oratio (prayer) where we leave our thinking
aside and simply let our hearts respond to God in prayer.
•CONTEMPLATIO:The final stage of Lectio Divina is contemplatio (rest)
where we simply rest in the Word of God. We listen at the deepest level of
our being to God who speaks within us with a still small voice. As we listen,
we are gradually transformed from within. Signup after Mass on September 8 and 9

Bread For the World
bread for the world
We are reconvening again next Saturday Sept. 22nd instead of
Sept. 8th because there was a Stewardship meeting with Fr. Paul and
on Saturday Sept.15th Peter is out of town. We need to continue our
job where we left of before the summer. There are many issues as we
know that our head office wants us to continue to be involved with.
Besides, our ministry head Peter England has decided to step down
after his around 25 years of faithful and effective service to our ministry. We must pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten us to choose our
next ministry head and fortunately we have very good and capable
candidates that can take over. We want to invite everyone possible to
come to this meeting to cast their vote and make the commitment
to continue being involved and ready to assist and participate in the
important resolution that this movement has made of ending world
hunger. Besides by this meeting we must already be prepared for
the ministry weekend (22/23 Sept.) having our own manned table to
explain to all the community what our ministry does. Our next meeting will be this coming Saturday, Sept. 22nd , at 10:00 AM in the
Library. If you want further information, please call: Peter England
Tel: 305-235-7257 or Pablo Sánchez Tel: 305-271-4763.

Men of God
The Fathers’ Ministry hosted a barbecue at Gus
Gonzalez’ home: Gus Vilomar and Eric Concepción
coordinate the ministry this year.
This social event
introduced new fathers from the school to the community
of St. Louis. Yet it also gave other fathers the occasion
to renew their relationships and to celebrate their
friendships.
These men demonstrate that their parish and
school are important. They meet together several times
a year to enable the men to bond with each other and to
work together on different service projects.
Parents form their children’s attitudes toward
religion. Sometimes”religion” is the responsibility of the
mother; she takes care of that dimension of the home.
But men also have a critical role to play. Social studies
say that a child’s relationship with God will be significantly
determined by (1) the relationship of the child with his/
her father, and [2] the father’s attitude toward religion
and his relationship with God. Perhaps this is because so
many of our religious images are “male.” True– God as
Spirit is beyond sexuality or gender, yet we generally refer
to God with male pronouns, like “he” and “him,” or we
use male nouns to designate God as “Father” or “Lord”
or King,” Jesus, of course was a male and modeled
humanness in the masculine gender. But, whatever the
reason, the father or the male figure in the household
affects the child’s growing faith awareness. Men have a
special element to contribute to the religious upbringing
of their children. Both mother and father are important,
yet men should not forget the unique contribution that
they can make.
We often hear talk of men as “spiritual leaders”
in their home. This does not mean spiritual “despots”
or “dictators.” With their wives men lead by modelling
spiritual values. When children see demonstrations of
their parents’ faith, the lesson becomes not just “Do
as I say,” but “Do as I do.” Prayer in the home before
meals or before bed can demonstrate powerful faith
sharing that can imprint on the mind and hearts of young
people. The Father in heaven becomes more real, when
the father and mother on earth share in word and action
their committed faith and love.
On a different note– thanks for your prayers for
my father. He is out of the hospital and improving.
Yours in Christ,
niños/as.
Gracias.
Suyos en Cristo,
