Warren, Director Sharon Jordan Plant Manager Orasio Ramon Plant Assistants Joshua Carmona Marty Derosier Maria Galarza From the Pastor This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad! We have now entered into the Easter Season. After celebrating the suffering and death of Jesus, we now celebrate the rising of Jesus Christ giving us new life. Easter is the greatest feast in the Christian calendar, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Easter Sunday comes at the end of 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Through the 40 days of Lent, we have been preparing ourselves to die spiritually with Christ on Good Friday, the day of His Crucifixion, so that we can rise again with him in new life on Easter. Easter is a day of celebration because it represents the fulfillment of our faith as Christians. St. Paul wrote that unless Christ rose from the dead our faith is in vain (1 Corinthians 15:17). Through his death, Christ saved mankind from bondage to sin, and he destroyed the hold that death has on all of us; but it is His resurrection that gives us the promise of new life, both in this world and the next. The sacrament of Baptism is the great sacrament where we die to sin and rise to new life in Christ Jesus. Last night at the Easter Vigil, we blessed the Easter water and welcomed the new Elect into the Church, and we pray in today’s Mass for them: “We pray also for those to whom you have been pleased to give the new birth of water and the Holy Spirit, granting them forgiveness of all their sins.” We celebrate this also in every Mass as we renew our Baptism promises, dying to sin and rising again to new life in Jesus Christ. The priest and deacon then bless us all with the blessed Easter water that symbolizes the gift of life from God. At every funeral the priest prays, “In the waters of Baptism we died with Christ and rose with Him to new life. May we now share with Him Eternal Glory.” Another symbol of new life at Easter is the Easter Lily. History, mythology, literature, poetry and the world of art are rife with stories and images that speak of the beauty and majesty of the elegant white flowers. Often called the “whiterobed apostles of hope,” lilies were found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane after Christ’s agony. Tradition has it that the beautiful white lilies sprang up where drops of Christ’s sweat fell to the ground in his final hours of sorrow and deep distress. Churches continue this tradition at Easter time by banking their altars and surrounding their crosses with masses of Easter Lilies, to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and hope of life everlasting. For many, the Easter Lily, the beautiful trumpet-shaped white flower, symbolizes purity, virtue, innocence, hope and life — the spiritual essence of Easter. A mark of purity and grace throughout the ages, the regal white lily is a fitting symbol of the greater meaning of Easter and serves as a beautiful reminder that Easter is a time for rejoicing and celebrating. May you all have a happy and blessed Easter! Yours in Christ, Father John St. Anne Catholic Church, April 20, 2014 Page 2 MEETINGS/EVENTS 9:00 a.m. RCIA Pracce (CH) 7:00 p.m. AA (FFC 10, 11) >>>>>>> PARISH OFFICE CLOSED 11:00 a.m. English Bapsm (CH) 1:30 p.m. >>>>>>> Spanish Bapsm (CH) 7:25 a.m. Recitaon of the Rosary (CH) 6:15 p.m. Cub Scouts (FFA) 7:00 p.m. Boy Scouts (FFC 4,5) 7:25 a.m. 7:00 p.m. 7:25 a.m. 9:30 a.m. 6:30p.m. 7:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Recitaon of the Rosary (CH) AA (FFC 10, 11) Recitaon of the Rosary (CH) Spanish Kateri Group (FFC 4, 5) Confirmaon Pracce (CH) MDS (FFC 4, 5) Al-Anon (FFC 10, 11) 7:25 a.m. 9:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m. 8:15 p.m. Recitaon of the Rosary (CH) Rosary/Prayer Shawls (FFC 5) Bingo (SJH) NA (FFC 4, 5) FRIDAY 25 7:25 a.m. Recitaon of the Rosary (CH) SATURDAY 26 9:00 a.m. 1st Communion Pracce (CH) 7:00 p.m. 8:30 a.m. 10:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. AA (FFC 10, 11) Elem FF (FFA, FFC) Confirmaon Mass (CH) Mystagogy for Adults (CR) Mystagogy for Children/Teens (FFC) MS/HS FF (FFA, FFC) Divine Mercy Celebraon (CH) SATURDAY 19 SUNDAY 20 EASTER MONDAY 21 TUESDAY 22 WEDNESDAY 23 THURSDAY 24 SUNDAY 27 11:15 a.m. 11:15 a.m. 3:00 p.m. PARISH OFFICE CLOSED CH-Church, CY-Courtyard, SJH-St. Joachim Hall, GZ-Gazebo, FFA-Faith Formaon Annex, FFC-Faith Formaon Center, CR-Conference Rm MASS INTENTIONS Saturday, April 19 - Easter Vigil 8:30 p.m. St. Anne Catholic Church, April 20, 2014 All Newly Bapzed Sunday, April 20 - Easter 6:30 a.m. People of the Parish 8:00 a.m. Joan Cramer 10:00 a.m. Lemar Ketelsleger Harris Family Ann Waggoner Esther 12:30 p.m. Dora Perozziello Luz Reig 5:00 p.m. Pat Thomas Winnie McEvoy and Iona Wilde Monday, April 21 8:00 a.m. Larry Heffron Friends of Larry Tuesday, April 22 8:00 a.m. The Joseph Family Wednesday, April 23 8:00 a.m.
