There is no greater proof of God's love for us than the Cross of Jesus Christ. In the cross we see a new way of love – a love that is unselfish and selflessly directed to serve others for their good, and a sacrificial love that is forgiving, compassionate, and merciful beyond comprehension. Jesus says to us, his disciples, to love one another just as he has loved us. Jesus has clearly commanded us to sacrificial, unconditional love. He calls us to love the Judases in our lives. He calls us to lay down our live in love, even for our enemies. This new commandment of love is the essence of salvation, the meaning of life, and the way to the Father. How can we love our neighbor selflessly, sacrificially, and with compassion? Through the victory of the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we now have access to God's unlimited mercy, grace, and power to love and forgive even those who cause us grief and suffering. God gives us new life in his Holy Spirit and he fills our hearts with the supernatural gifts of faith, hope, and love. Paul the Apostle reminds us that "God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us" (Romans 5:5). As we turn to God with trust and obedience, he transforms our hearts and frees us from our hurts and prejudices so that we can choose to love others with compassion, kindness, and mercy. Jesus has set us free from slavery to fear, sin, and prejudice. We are now free to choose for his way of love and life. Fr. I asked for a family celebration that would appeal especially to our school and CCD families. I envisioned games, activities, food, entertainment and lots of fun. The idea was to re-enforce the fact that our parish is a community made up of many families and that we need to support and strengthen the bonds of friendship and of faith. We need to create a culture that is more focused on people and not on things and a culture that is simple, welcoming and joyful. The fact that we have such a day as our Family Faith and Fund Day underscores the respect and concern that we have for our families especially those who are right in the midst of raising the next generation of Catholics and of passing on our distinctive Catholic way of life. We handle both of those sacred responsibilities together as community and with the support and gifts of all. In past times our immigrant grandparents and parents stuck together with a tremendous tenacity of purpose so as not to lose language, culture, and especially a sense of family. Today, in our own way, we try to do the same. Our day of celebration here was filled with inter-generational fun and the re-enforcement of family bonds. The picture gallery that was in last weeks' bulletin proved the adage that "a picture is worth a thousand words". The fact that all of this family fun took place on church grounds and under the shadow of our large cross says a lot about us. We know that God's love has brought us into being and sustains our lives with providential love. What better place is there to be than on our "holy ground"? This " Holy ground" is holy not only because it is location of God's house but because it is also the home of God's holy people who sanctify it with our presence. We must not think, however, that family holiness only happens when we are on church grounds. In our own homes, the work, activities, meals, recreation and family prayers make of the home "holy ground" filled with God's love and grace. Every act of family life can be holy if it is entered into with a loving intention and purpose. Simple acts of affirmation, forgiveness, support and teamwork if they are done with Christian love sanctify our homes and make of them "domestic churches" and "temples of the Holy Spirit". Check out again the pictures of Family Faith and Fun Day that were in last weeks' bulletin. Quite possibly your picture is there. If not, next year let's make sure that it is. - Msgr. Michael D. JOAN OF ARC l APRIL 28 FIRST HOLY COMMUNION AT ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH & SCHOOL First Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Roman Catholic's life. It means that a person has received the Sacrament of the Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus Christ. On May 11, 2013, many of our St. Joan of Arc children will receive their First Holy Communion at our beautiful Church in front of our majestious Corpus of Christ, what a wonderful way to remember this occasion than by wearing the Sterling Silver St. Joan of Arc Corpus of Christ necklace or lapel pin, available for sale at our Church Bookstore and online at www.stjoan.org These necklaces and lapel pins make a wonderful gift too! 561-393-0006 Necklace $40 • Lapel pin $30 PARISH LITURGY COMMITTEE MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION! Once again, comes May 12, Sunday, we will be celebrating Mother's Day. Yes, as grateful children, we ought to show our love and reverence to our dear Mothers both living and deceased every day of our lives. But Mother’s Day is a special day to remember in a special way the most special persons in our lives: our beloved Mothers . We can give her a bouquet of roses, surprise her with expensive jewelry, take her on a grand vacation, or treat her to a sumptuous dinner. Either one is more than enough to express our love if the intention is coming from the heart. But the best gift that we can ever give her is the Holy Eucharist. Roses will wither, jewelry will lose its glamour, memories of grand vacation and sumptuous dinner will fade but the Holy Eucharist stores in her treasures in heaven, “where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (MATTHEW 6:19-20) So please remember your Mom in our 9 day-Novena of Masses. Envelopes are available at the Credence Table or ask an Usher for help. Always remember, " He who gives glory to his mother prepares a treasure for himself." (SIRACH 3:4) - Fr. Jimmy B. Hababag APRIL 28 l ST. JOAN OF ARC l 7 ERIN GO BREW St. Joan of Arc parents gathered together for the last Erin Go Brew of this school year. SAN JUAN 13, 31-33A. 34-35: SER JUSTOS EL PAPA FRANCISCO HABLA A LA JUVENTUD Y PIDE ORACIÓN POR LAS VOCACIONES ¡Queridos hermanos y hermanas, buenos días!
