CARTA INTENCION - LETTER OF INTENTION
INTRODUCCIÓN
INTRODUCTION
Es inspirador el lema de Antigua y Barbuda,
“Cada uno esforzándose, todos logrando”, en
él se contienen el espíritu y el sentido de la
comunidad de las naciones. Tal es el espíritu
que hoy nos convoca.
Antigua and Barbuda’s inspiring motto,
"Each endeavoring, all achieving ", contains
the nation’s community spirit and sense. Such
is the spirit that brings us together today.
El logro que deseamos obtener en el mundo
y hoy -particularmente- en Antigua y
Barbuda, es la erradicación absoluta del
hambre y la pobreza extrema. En otros
términos, lograr que no exista ni una sola
persona en Antigua y Barbuda que padezca
hambre, ni viva en la pobreza extrema.
The achievement we aspire to obtain
worldwide, particularly today, in Antigua and
Barbuda, is the absolute eradication of hunger
and extreme poverty. In other words,
ensuring that there is not a single person in
Antigua and Barbuda that suffers from
hunger or lives in extreme poverty.
Conocemos e intentamos comprender la
situación socio económica y productiva por la
que transita el país; somos conscientes de que
existe la voluntad política y el compromiso
necesarios para lograr el objetivo que nos
proponemos.
We are fully aware of the socio-economic
and productive situation in country; and we
know that there is the political will and
commitment to achieve the target we have set
for ourselves.

extreme poverty); the second involves
structural policies, which requires a stronger
effort, dedication and planning but whose
results ensure sustainability over time.
Ambas respuestas son indispensables en esta
situación; exigen virtudes, tareas y
habilidades que se complementan: la
solidaridad y la fortaleza. Contamos con
ambas.
Both responses are essential in this situation.
They call for virtues, tasks and skills that
complement each other: solidarity and
strength. We have both.
Por tal razón, el Primer Ministro de Antigua y
Barbuda, el Sub Director General y
Representante Regional de FAO para
América Latina y el Caribe, el Director
General de IICA, en el interés de cumplir con
el objetivo del milenio, en el territorio de
Antigua y Barbuda, acuerdan:
To this end, the Prime Minister of Antigua
and Barbuda, the Assistant Director-General
and FAO Regional Representative for Latin
America and the Caribbean, the Director
General of IICA, in the interest of complying
with the Millennium Goals in the territory of
Antigua and Barbuda, agree:
- Asumir la decisión política de incluir a la
erradicación del hambre y la lucha contra la
pobreza en Antigua y Barbuda, como
objetivo prioritario y meta de las acciones
conjuntas.
- Procurar la institucionalización y el
desarrollo de un sistema de garantías que
asegure el derecho a la alimentación.
- Organizar, alrededor de este objetivo un
conjunto
de
acciones
coordinadas,
coherentes y efectivas que, en el plazo de 24
meses eliminen, y de forma sostenible, la
inseguridad alimentaria y nutricional y la
pobreza extrema en Antigua y Barbuda.
- Acordar que éste conjunto de actividades
deben diseñarse en el marco de la Política de
Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional del
Gobierno de Antigua y Barbuda bajo la
forma de un programa abierto que permita
incluir a todas aquellos actores que deseen
comprometerse en el logro del objetivo.
- Acordar también que este conjunto de
acciones
formarán
parte
de
la

- To agree that this set of actions must be
designed within the framework of the
Government of Antigua and Barbuda’s Policy
on Food and Nutrition Security in the form of
an open program allowing the inclusion of all
actors willing to be part of this goal.
- To agree also that this set of actions will be
part of the implementation of the Regional

- Invitar a los distintos organismos
internacionales y regionales, instituciones,
planes, programas, asociaciones, miembros
de sociedad civil a participar, en el marco de
sus competencias, en esta tarea y suscribir la
presente Carta Acuerdo.
- Asociar a los países de la región de
América Latina y el Caribe y apelar al marco
de colaboración “Sur – Sur” en el logro de la
meta propuesta.
- Convenir que la sustentabilidad en el
tiempo de los logros obtenidos como
consecuencia de las actividades previstas, es
también una meta prioritaria.
- Establecer un marco de cooperación
exitoso a partir del cual extender la
experiencia a otros países de la región de
América Latina y el Caribe y del mundo.
- Fijar el mes de diciembre de 2012 cómo
plazo de entrega del plan de acción,
precisando responsabilidades y aportes de
presupuesto a cargo de los involucrados.
- Implementar todas las acciones necesarias
para el logro de la meta propuesta,
recordando el lema de este país “cada uno
esforzándose, todos logrando”.
Food and Nutrition Security Action Plan
approved by the Ministers of Agriculture
members of COTED, in October, 2012
- To invite the various international and
regional organizations, institutions, plans,
programmes, partnerships, and members of
civil society to participate - in the framework
of their competencies - in this task and
execute this Letter of Agreement.
- To engage the countries in Latin America
and the Caribbean, calling for support under
the framework of the South-South
Cooperation Programmes in order to achieve
the proposed objective.
- To agree that sustainability of achievements
over time as a result of planned activities is
also a priority target.
- To establish a successful cooperation
framework from which to extend the
experience to other countries of Latin
America, the Caribbean and the world.
To establish December 2012 the final
date to deliver an action plan, specifying
responsibilities and financial support to be
provided by the different actors.
- To implement all appropriate actions
necessary to achieve the proposed goal,
recalling the motto of this country: "Each
endeavoring, all achieving".
