May they be purified of any temporal punishment due to sin and not remitted during their earthly lives. This state of purification is called Purgatory. The Old Testament tells us that “God is a consuming fire.” Through analogy, we can understand this purification process when we consider how fire purifies precious metals, such as gold or silver, by removing the impurities that may be within them. Adult Faith Formation: Our next Sym bolon session is Tues., Nov. 4 in the Parish Activities Center, at 7:30 PM. The topic is The Paschal Mystery: The Mystery of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection. These sessions are for adults, age 18 and above. Can’t make the group session? You can view the videos at home over streaming Internet. Parishioners can create a login credential using the Access Code “16e125” on the web at HTTP :// SYMBOLONCATHOLIC . ORG / REGISTER . If you are coming to the group session, you should download or print the Participant Guide (pr inter -friendly) listed under Premium Resources or download it to your iPad or other digital tablet, if you have Internet access. We can pray for the souls in Purgatory that they may enter God’s presence in heaven. While they cannot pray for themselves, they can pray for us here on earth. The Communion of Saints refers to the saints in heaven, the souls of the deceased in Purgatory, and the Church here on earth. We are connected wonderfully with others in this Communion of Saints. We pray for all who have died, that they may be purified in Purgatory and enter the happiness of the Beatific Vision in heaven. Mass of Remembrance Monday, November 3rd at 7:30pm One of our most beloved traditions at All Saints Parish occurs every year during the month of November. This is the month when the whole Church remembers those who have passed from this world, in hope of eternal life. At All Saints we celebrate a special Mass for those of our parish family who have died in the past year. We wish to invite your family and friends to this special Eucharist. rd This special Mass will take place on Monday, November 3 at 7:30pm. Please know that you are in our prayers and in the prayers of the community of All Saints. When St. John Paul II called the Church to a “new evangelization”, he stated that “evangelization can be new in its ardor, methods and expression.” To succeed in sharing the Good News of our faith with others, every member is called to be a steward of this mission and of our parish. A few weeks ago, we held our Stewardship Sunday, when many parishioners gathered with representatives of numerous parish ministries to learn how our special gifts of talent and time may be shared to help fulfill that mission. Today we are announcing the beginning of our annual program that considers the third part of faithful stewardship, financial stewardship. We ask each member of our community to reflect upon the importance of our ministries and their role in the new evangelization. In a couple of weeks, you will receive an invitation from Fr. Roos to pray about your ability to support the mission of All Saints. On the weekend of November 16th, we will join together and formally pledge our financial support of the parish. Next weekend we will hear testimony of the many wonderful things happening at our parish from the perspective of a fellow parishioner. Our parish community is a reflection of each of us, its members. Our generosity will determine what we can or cannot do as a community. A small sacrifice on everyone’s part will make a big difference. Thank you. Book of Remembrance The Book of Remembrance is in the Church near the baptismal font and Paschal candle during the month of November in memory of our beloved dead. All are invited to place the names of loved ones who have died in our Book of Remembrance with faith in the resurrection that Jesus promises us. Bethany Food Pantry The Pantry is currently providing assistance to nearly 350 families in the Manassas community. The average family receives 26lbs of food every 2 weeks, providing clients with more nutritional meals for their families. So that we can best serve those in need, the Bethany Food Pantry is collecting donations of non-perishable food items from the parishioners of All Saints Church. At this time we are especially in need of the following: Rice / beans / oatmeal and cold cereal / corn flour & white flour / canned chicken and tuna / peanut butter / potatoes / fruit / pasta sauce / baking and pancake mix Dairy and meat products, as well as fresh produce, are always in high demand. If your donation requires cold storage, please contact Vickie Taylor at 703-368-4500 to schedule a drop off. Your non-perishable donations to the pantry can be left in one of the wooden bins located near each door of the church or call so that we can best accommodate the delivery. If you know of someone we can help, please let them know that the Bethany Food Pantry is here to help. If you would like to volunteer (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri), please contact Vickie. Thanks for your continued support. St. Vincent de Paul Society “The Lord hears the cries of the poor; blessed be the Lord" The Poor Boxes located at each exit of the church are an invitation to you to participate in Our Lord's response to "the “cries of the poor." With your Poor Box contributions and special envelope collection, St. Vincent de Paul Society can do the 'good work' of All Saints Parish. Responding to calls for emergency financial assistance, Vincentians reach out to our neighbors in their time of need. The extent of the success of this mission depends entirely on your generosity, and relies heavily on your prayers. If you are facing a financial emergency, call 703-368-2429; Spanish speakers: 703-393-1483. Parish Life The Parish Office is closed from 12:00 noon - 1:00pm Monday-Friday.
