Presentación ¡Ka-Boom! Estudio 2008
Service’s Portfolio What is ¡Ka-Boom! Estudio? ¡Ka-Boom! Estudio is born mainly by two fundamental aspects: 1. Create a comic book industry CONCEPT AND VALUES in Mexico, introducing a new format that fulfill the requirements to give a quality that makes us competitive worldwide. 2. The necessity to open up a space to promote new talents and comic book masters (writers, artists and colorists), introducing the art of comics in the new audiences, leaving behind disposable comics. The original ¡Ka-Boom! Studio, where it all began. PHILOSOPHY. *Professionalism: Demostrate that charging for a job is not deserving to be a professional if there’s a lack of the following points: *Update in information and techniques: Not staying behind, unifying the experience and the new tools to be always fresh in favor of creativity. *Discipline, responsability, seriousness and commitment: Beyond limited schedules, personal tastes and mediocre attitudes; to think in others before that in ourselves and to perform at 110% *Ethics, companionship and love for this profession: Teamwork and fighting for a common good allows for healthy and constructive competition, and helps us to grow as artists and human beings. To avoid that the economical surpasses creativity’s limit, gives as a result a product with a heart. *Loyalty, trust and honor: Unification of mind, heart and spirit among the members, is more powerful than individuality, that destroys and divides. *Human and artistic quality: Our works will always be a reflection of our inner self. CONCEPT AND VALUES VISION. *To be prophets in our own land: It’s more praiseworthy being able to trascend in the place of origin where there’s not an existance of an industry and obstacles slow down the projects, than developing in a country where industry already exists. *Show with facts our commitment with a First World way of thinking, in a Third World country: The thought can be the first obstacle, or be the success. *Not to waver in winding roads, but to acquire experience to strengthen our spirit: The inconveniences give strength, comfort gives mediocrity. *Generate, mantain and look for alliances that promote the advance and growth between Companies: It’s a time to create synergies, form teams, be a team player, to win, win. MISSION. *Be one of the Companies that represents Mexico for their quality at national and international levels: Generate products that speak of the Studio’s talent and quality for themselves, and compete with the best. *Upgrade the national quality level: To be an artist’s melting pot with the quality that is required to represent Mexico worthily at an international level. *Re-activate the Ninth Art’s industry in Mexico: Generate products of continuity and of several styles; direct the new talents to guide them to professionalism with tutoring for free; promote conventions and original comic book stores; create consciousness in people about the virus of crimes against intellectual property, as the called “piracy.” *Promote the comic book as a mass media: To put this media in the place that deserves as one of the principal media because of it’s great capacity to communicate; for it’s versatility to be understood among audiences of al sectors and ages; for it’s different genres (corporate, advertisement, educational, informational and entertainment); for it’s permanence and for it’s economical production when compared to other media; and as Ninth Art in Mexico. CONCEPT AND VALUES *To take boldly the Ninth Art, to all sectors and levels that it hasn’t gone before: To achieve that people gives it it’s real value, promote it and take it to the big spaces where only the great works of art have place: as well as commercially. *Professionallize our media: Instruct the new artists in the values and commitments that a professional needs; advise them legally about copyrights and about the responsibility as communicators of such a noble media; make aptitude tests to direct the artist in the different comic book specialities in a professional way and take them to their realization as person and artist, not allowing to be exploited, or cheated, by mercantilist schools with no prestige at all; direct them to the knowledge of the cost of their artwork as well as to advise them in the ways of commercializing their art. To keep fighting for the artist’s respect in their career and experience; to promote historic knowledge as a cornerstone where new roads are built. *Promote copyright respect: Create this culture in Institutions, Companies, general audiences and the own artists about the value of Art and their authors. *Promote Fantasy and Sci-Fi: These days, people consume inconsequential and banal products, which contribute to build young people that lack values. *Promote the universal, infantile and juvenile comic books: If we don’t show comic book art to the new generations, we’ll be contributing to the disappearance of future readers, situation that already started happening in a global scale. *Promote the authorial comic book: Avoid being fad artists, strengthen as classical artists. *Create quality products: Respect the consumer: In spite of technological advance, the essence of persons is the same. Audience support is invaluable. * Create employment sources: The entertainment medium creates vast alternate media fed by the generated and materialized fantasy in stores, merchandise, amusement parks, entertainment ceneters, animations, dubbing, etc., taking big profits to the companies and to the same country. Glub and Takete, are two sound effects that enclose the balance between sound and form, it’s in this simple concept that ¡Ka-Boom! bases to develop the following: CONCEPT. This is the base and point of departure for a better use and advantage as in positioning, advertising, promotion, communication, etc. campaigns. The development of all kind of merchandise from the comic: clothes line, toys, prints, etc; up to the promotional and entertainment animation in 2D as in 3D. The kids and general audience, are attracted by the magic it entails the production process of a given project, because the history behind curtains, is something a little unusual, because of this, we’ll introduce kids to the product’s production world in a magical and fun way with the goal of getting them closer to the Company ---that after all started out as a dream--- and create an identification with the brand and its products. OBJECTIVE. The objective of using fantasy as the image of brands, products and companies targeted to every audience, is to create an emotional link between the Company, the product, the brand and the people that consume the goods and/or services, who become faithful, loyal and excellent consumers. In the case of a children product, the fantasy will help us to submerge in the wonderful world of kids: speak their language, not in a morphologic way, but in an equal essence that helps us to communicate with no masks or falsifications, in a honest and simple way; without complications, as they are. CREATIVE PROCESS The concept and creation of a character’s universe is thought to be exploited in every possible media, if required, not only for promotion but for positioning, for the communication and commercialization of these, their products and all the information that the Company wishes, opening an specter of big potential possibilities that can give your Company and/or your products and/or brands, an infinite and powerful projection. OF COMMERCIAL AND ADVERTISING CHARACTERS/MASCOTS Creative process of Commercial and Advertising Characters/Mascots. COMMERCIAL AND ADVERTISING CHARACTERS/MASCOTS CREATIVE PROCESS THE CORPORATE IMAGE. It’s the most important intangible of your Company. It represents your philosophy, your vision, your values and the perceived image that the general audience has, and this is represented by: BRANDS. The brand represents a distinction seal of your products and services in regard of quality and price among others, making a difference from those similar in the market; turning in a corporate image’s fundamental element, and therefore, in one of your essential intangible assets and it’s represented by: THE LOGO. The logo is the distintive brand’s seal, is not just a simple design that represents you, it is an icon of the Company, and because of that it must have a “spirit”, a feeling that becomes a part of the people that consumes your products. Example: The logo is a character by itself, and we could say that when people identify in such a way that they even buy or collect products with your image on them, then and only then it’ll be a success, because you’ll be permanently fixed in the mind of those people that’ll be your potential, permanent and faithful clients for generations. THE UNIVERSE. It must be universal, to focus as in children as in teens and adults in general, these last ones are who finally have the purchasing power and will be potential consumers. That universe is an important part of your image and what your Company reflect and desire to the audiences. Because of that, every detail is taken into care, to create that link that’ll be permanent. Example: Paseo de la Alteña 207, Alteña 1, Lomas Verdes, Naucalpan, Edo. de México, C.P. 53120 Tel: (+52 55) 5572 6245 and (+52 55) 5562 9506 Fax:(+52 55) 5562 5846 www.ka-boom.com.mx [email protected] [email protected] All the material and works included here are for informative use. All intelectual property rights are reserved by their respective owners. CREATIVE PROCESS COMMERCIAL AND ADVERTISING CHARACTERS/MASCOTS Example: THE CHARACTERS. The characters are created not just for the kids’ fun, but will be the tools that will function us to inform in a subjective way what you wish, for the benefit of your Company and products. They will represent you in image and sound, therefore, can be used in the following way: a) Costumed Characters: The character(s) shall move and talk (given the case) according to their attitudes and psychology, these movements will be known by the audience by some printed media as comics, comic strips y packaging or other media where they advertise. Examples: b) Radio Spots: The character(s) have a timbre, the color and style will manifest physically in a search through castings with professional voice actors that represent it with their voice, in a way that, when people listen to the character’s voice, immediately evokes the image of it and the promoted product, in their minds. c) Advertising or commercial animation: The character(s) must reflect their personality to standardize the static and animated images. d) Merchandising: Wether publicity or consumer targeted, in both cases your brand will always be in the consumer’s top of mind, because the whole concept is focused to be collectable. Examples: Paseo de la Alteña 207, Alteña 1, Lomas Verdes, Naucalpan, Edo. de México, C.P. COMMERCIAL AND ADVERTISING CHARACTERS/MASCOTS CREATIVE PROCESS e) Therefore, everything printed, animated or characterized must be guided through this image and sound that will represent it, and something to put special care on, are the scripts: subjects, attitudes and way of talking in each of them. Examples: f) The brand becomes the product, because it can be licensed to be exploited by thirds with the logic economic and publicity benefit of these. That being the case, it is indispensable to find a graphic style before specifying the character, but not leaning towards the logo; it can be made in thin or thick outline. Example: It is very important, when designing a character, to include its psychology and universe, because this will provide a spiritual and solid life that the consuming audience will perceive even without even knowing how the character is, this is where many clients and designers don’t understand why mascots have success or not, because it is not the same thing to design an empty image than one with a psychological content, and that above all, represents the brand. On the other hand, perhaps it’s needed to include a group of friends and foes, but we’ll get into that in a bit. Examples: For the mascot search, we consider the following genders: a) Human, it identifies with some sectors of the consumer audience. b) Animal, with it we can take advantage of the cuteness, sympathy and the fable. c) Amorphous, it is more universal, doesn’t offend susceptibilities and a fictional universe specially designed for it can be created. Examples: Paseo de la Alteña 207, Alteña 1, Lomas Verdes, Naucalpan, Edo. de México, C.P. CREATIVE PROCESS COMMERCIAL AND ADVERTISING CHARACTERS/MASCOTS The process is divided in four stages: 1. Brainstorming Stage: where we don’t come short in forms and figures, because at this point, we must eliminate and suggest audacious, traditional or modern designs that are liked by the client, the involved people, and us that are experts in the design of fantasy and sci-fi characters applied to a commercial or advertising product. It is in this moment where we use the semiotics. 2. Definition: Once we have come across the genre and style, under client’s approval, we proceed to develop the final design and the color psychology tests. 3. Model Sheets: At this last point, we’ll develop the Main Model Sheets (expressions, poses and attitudes, views and height comparison chart), which will serve as an art guide for creatives when developing applications in Points Of Purchase: comics, packages, posters, publicity in general, animation, etc. 4. Aditional Material: In case of needing extra poses to the model sheets, the interested will ask to ¡Ka-Boom! for the positions in specific. The creation of the concept; the universe; the characters and their psychology, will be the base and never ending source of possibilities for the commercial or advertising development of a product. Paseo de la Alteña 207, Alteña 1, Lomas Verdes, Naucalpan, Edo. de México, C.P. COMMERCIAL AND ADVERTISING CHARACTERS/MASCOTS CREATIVE PROCESS Comment. One of the existing and very clear differences between a comic and any other graphic advertising media, is that the comic is not disposed, it’s collected and being an easy to read media, flexible and friendly in it’s subjects, besides of not being a disposable publicity tool, represents an excellent mass media, because it is proved that one single issue is read by, at least, 10 persons. Therefore, the integrated publicity and information contained in it, will last a long time, going from generation to generation and not like other media that are disposable or ephemeral. The comic can contain a great dose of fantasy, adventure, intrigue, and humor and it is the seal of our company to give readers, not just an entertaining product but something that leaves a positive message as the legacy of ¡Ka-Boom! Estudio, because we are convinced of the responsibility we have with the consuming audience. Production Timelines. We have mentioned that it takes a whole process to create the universe and design of one or several characters, and it is required, in the case of a company or product, the involvement of the artists with the brief, so we can fulfill the client’s expectations and reach a good result. The time needed to develop the concept, idea and universe ranges between a month or up to three months and much will depend of the revisions and client’s approvals to keep a good creative rhythm. In the case of needing the production of a 32-page comic, the production time is one month to write the script (having al the base already developed) and later on, timelines can be adjusted to develop a weekly script. The development time of the storyboard, layout, art, inks, color, letter, design and pre-press will be of one month and a half up to two months, previously having the script. Other services will be negotiated in advance.
