Pastor’s Corner
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
This Easter Sunday is the most important and glorious of all the Church’s
solemnities. Today we joyfully celebrate the resurrection of the Lord. He
died on the cross, but He is risen, alive and present in our midst never to
die again. This is the witness of the empty tomb found by Mary Magdalene
and the apostles. This is the witness of the angel: “Do not seek the living
one among the dead”. Today the whole Church, the community of
believers, is reborn with the hope in the promises of Christ about a new
and redeemed world. Like Jesus, all human beings have a destiny in life; we
have been created for happiness at the end of a way of sorrow.
Today’s Mass gathers the followers of the risen Jesus, and in the sacrament
of the bread and the wine we commemorate visibly the Lord present
among us until the end of time. We are not abandoned to our fate in a
world of hatred and death; rather, we are witnesses to a new hope. If we
take part in our Sunday celebration with faith, we can say to one another:
‘WE HAVE SEEN THE LORD; HE IS ALIVE!”
I wish that this Easter will bring to this beautiful community of St. Hugh all
the joy of the Resurrection. HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!

Queridos hermanos:
Este día de Pascua es el día más importante y glorioso de todas las festividades de la
Iglesia. Hoy celebramos llenos de júbilo la resurrección del Señor: Él murió en una
cruz, pero ha resucitado, está vivo, presente en medio de nosotros para no morir
más. Este es el testimonio del sepulcro vacío que María Magdalena y los apóstoles
encuentran. Este es el testimonio del ángel: “no busquen entre los muertos al que
está vivo”. En este día la Iglesia entera, la comunidad de creyentes, siente renacer en
sí la esperanza en las promesas de Cristo sobre un mundo nuevo y salvado. Así como
Jesús, todos los seres humanos tenemos un destino en la vida, hemos sido creados
para una felicidad al cabo de un camino de dolor.
La misa de hoy nos reúne a los seguidores de Jesús resucitado. En el sacramento del
pan y del vino conmemoramos en forma visible al Señor que está presente hasta el
fin de los tiempos en medio de nosotros. No estamos abandonados a nuestra suerte
en un mundo de odio y de muerte, sino que nos sentimos testigos de una nueva
esperanza. Si participamos con fe en nuestra celebración del domingo, podremos
decirnos los unos a los otros: “¡HEMOS VISTO AL SEÑOR; ESTÁ VIVO!”
Mi deseo es que esta Pascua traiga la alegría de nuestra fe a esta bella comunidad
de St. Hugh. ¡FELIZ PASCUA DE RESURRECCIÓN!

This, therefore, is the proclamation that the Church repeats
from the first day: “Christ is risen!”. And, in Him, through
Baptism, we too are risen, we have passed from death to life,
from the slavery of sin to the freedom of love. Behold the Good News that we are
called to take to others and to every place, inspired by the Holy Spirit. Faith in the
Resurrection of Jesus and the hope that He brought us is the most beautiful gift
that the Christian can and must give to his brothers. To all and to each, therefore,
let us not tire of saying: Christ is risen! Let us repeat it all together, today here in
the Square: Christ is risen! Let us repeat it with words, but above all with the
witness of our lives. The happy news of the Resurrection should shine on our
faces, in our feelings and attitudes, in the way we treat others.

Éste es el anuncio que la Iglesia repite desde el primer día: «¡Cristo ha
resucitado!». Y, en Él, por el Bautismo, también nosotros hemos resucitado,
hemos pasado de la muerte a la vida, de la esclavitud del pecado a la libertad del
amor. Ésta es la buena noticia que estamos llamados a anunciar a los demás y en
todo ambiente, animados por el Espíritu Santo. La fe en la resurrección de Jesús
y la esperanza que Él nos ha traído es el don más bonito que el cristiano puede y
debe ofrecer a sus hermanos. A todos y cada uno, entonces, no nos cansemos
de repetir: ¡Cristo ha resucitado! Repitámoslo todos juntos, hoy aquí en la plaza:

St. Hugh places third overall in 7th grade
Academic Decathlon
The 7th grade students participated in the first ever Academic
Decathlon at Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School. They took
individual exams in Math, Social Studies, Science, Fine Arts, P.E, English,
Literature, and Religion. They then took team tests in Logic and General
Knowledge.
The following students received individual awards:
Third Place - Literature - Katherine Moore
Third Place - Social Studies - Christina Avila
Second Place - Fine Arts - Chelsea Pennekamp
First Place - Math - Ana Colitto
The entire team that also included students Lily Courtney, Cesar Alfonzo,
Sophia Bahad, Ryan Williams, David Nader, and Rodrigo Velazco
placed third in the Logic and General Knowledge exam.

For twenty-one days they watched, cared and guarded.
The students in Kindergarten participated and observed the
hatching of baby chicks as part of a Life Science Unit. An
incubator and several fertilized eggs were set up in the
classroom. Over the course of twenty-one days, the children
observed the eggs and created scientific journals documenting
the development of the eggs into chicks. In addition to
observing the chicks, the children took turns as “chickie
guards” protecting the incubator, the hatching eggs and finally
the newly hatched baby chicks. Once the baby chicks were
stronger the children were even allowed to carry and pet them
always under the watchful eyes of their teachers and
“chickie guards”. It was an amazing and fun learning
experience in science and responsibility for the students.
