Lone Rose Collection of Baby Items
January 9 and 10, 2016
Will you be one of the Wise Men and bring your donations ?
Remember the mothers this Christmas Season who need a little help.
Brighten their homes as they care for their newborns.
The Knights of Columbus annual appeal for donations to the White Rose and Birth Choice Crisis Pregnancy Centers will be after all
Masses the weekend of January 9/10. Please donate generously to this very worthwhile cause. The White Rose and Birth Choice crisis
pregnancy ministries exist solely on donations and provide life-saving assistance at a critical time in a mother’s and child’s life.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will be in the Narthex to accept your monetary donations. (All checks should be made payable to
The Knights of Columbus Council 6065). In addition to the money collected, a baby crib will be setup in the Bethany Narthex to accept
new baby supplies, and gently used infant clothing and baby furniture for the White Rose and Birth Choice Centers.
Both centers provide free pregnancy testing, counseling, medical assistance, cribs, car seats, clothing, strollers, and other baby items,
as well as some financial aid. Sonograms are provided on a case-by-case basis. All items are donated and are freely dispensed.
The White Rose center has been open for 30 years. The Birth Choice center was established 7 years ago at the direction of Bishop Farrell who wants a crisis pregnancy center located near every abortion clinic. Together the centers serve over 3,000 women annually,
including hundreds who turn from the very doorsteps of the abortion clinics in search of a brighter alternative.
St. Mark parishioners have always been among the strongest supporters in the Dallas Diocese of the White Rose Center as evidenced
by our annual Lone Rose Sunday collection, K of C Golf Tournament and other events, sidewalk counselors, etc. When the Birth Choice
center was opened, we expanded our support to the White Rose and the Birth Choice centers equally.

If you or someone you know was baptized in another Christian tradition and are interested in becoming Catholic,

If you were baptized Catholic and lack the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion, please give us a call.

Catholic, which would include those who have not been baptized, or who are baptized and have questions about the Catholic faith. If

Home for the holidays. We are all familiar with that wonderful song. One marvelous group that makes this wish come true here in
Plano is Habitat for Humanity. HfH builds homes and communities in which families can grow and flourish.
Did you know that HfH does not give away houses?
-Each family that applies for a HfH house is thoroughly screened before being approved for a house. This truly is a “Hand Up, not a
Hand Out.” Families commit to participate in the build, providing 400 hours of their own “Sweat Equity”. In addition, they must pay
back an interest free mortgage, pay property taxes and maintain the home and yard. Financial and home management skills training
are also provided and required before final approval.
Last spring St Mark’s formed a “Habitat Team” within our parish. You may have seen some of our members at the Parish Festival
encouraging children and even adults to “drive a nail for habitat”.
In order to plan our next steps the St Mark team, and all those in the parish with an interest in helping the HfH mission, will be
having a meeting on Tuesday January 19, 2016, at 7:30 PM in the parish library. We will consider fundraising options, plans will be
discussed and decisions made about how to raise funds and build a St Mark sponsored house. Your experience and perspective is
important and welcome.
If you are interested in being a part of the St Mark HfH team or need more information contact Frank McElligott at 972-867-8516
(email [email protected]).

ST. MARK THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC COMMUNITY
Prayer for the Epiphany
Lord Jesus
may your light shine our way,
as once it guided the steps of the magi:
that we too may be led into your
presence and worship you,
the Child of Mary,
the Word of the Father,
the King of nations,
the Savior of mankind;
to whom be glory for ever.
