The Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the United Nations presents its compliments to the United
Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, and has the honour to make reference to note verbale ODA/202016/IED dated 8 February 2016, requesting information regarding Resolution 70/46 entitled "Countering
the threat posed by improvised explosive devices", adopted by the General Assembly on 7 December 2015.
In this regard, the Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the United Nations would like to transmit the
views of the Guatemalan Government on the aforementioned resolution, in particular operative paragraph
16.
The Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the United Nations avails itself of this opportunity to renew
to the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs the assurances of its highest considerations.

Con instrucciones de! senor Genera! de Division, Ministro de la Defensa
Nacional, tengo el agrado de diriglrme a usted, en referencia a su oficio
No. DIPOM/SUBONU-UNODA 140-000-226-16 de fecha 19 de febrero del afio en
curso.
Al respecto me permito hacer de su conocimiento que de conformldad con lo
manifestado por el Comandante de! Cuerpo de lngenieros del Ejercito, posterior al
conflicto armada interno, se iden!ificaron !os depaiiamentos del pals donde podrian
existir minas o artefactos explosives improvisados, los cua!es fueron registrados y
trabajados por el Programa Nacional de Desminado que finaliz6 el 20 de diciembre
de 2005, dec/arando a Guatemala libre de minas iy· artefactos explosivos, segun el
Programa de Asistencia para el Desminado en Centroamerica de la Organizaci6n de
Estados Americanos.
