SE VAN A LONDRES
Durante la ceremonia de entrega de certificados
Cambridge English, el BRITÁNICO concedió la
Beca a la Excelencia a sus estudiantes Brianda
Apuela, de Los Jardines; Stefano Cueto, de San
Miguel; Luciana Thais, de Monterrico; Sebastián
Alonso, de San Borja; Augusto Morales, de Pueblo
Libre; Andrea García, de Miraflores; y Alexandra
Pacheco, de San Juan de Lurigancho. Ellos podrán
complementar su aprendizaje del inglés en una
prestigiosa escuela de Londres.
En dicha ceremonia se entregaron los certificados
de la prestigiosa institución a más 250 estudiantes
de sus 11 centros de enseñanza. En lo que va del
2013, el BRITÁNICO ha otorgado la mencionada
beca a 17 de sus estudiantes más destacados.

Recuerdo que, en un
principio, la única razón por
la que quise entrar al
BRITÁNICO era que una
amiga estudiaba ahí; sin
embargo, fueron pasando
los ciclos y mi interés inicial
fue disminuyendo.
Afortunadamente,
todo
mejoró cuando me di cuenta
de que podía aprobar con
muy buenas notas si era
constante,
hacía
los
ejercicios y seguía los
consejos de mis profesores.
Si no hubiera sido por estos
últimos, las clases no habrían
sido lo que fueron: geniales y
didácticas.
Para mí, ganar la beca es una
prueba de que en verdad
tengo la capacidad de lograr
grandes cosas, y debo
agregar que este es sólo el
comienzo. Gracias por todo,

I started going to the
BRITÁNICO because my
parents made me. I
remember I had no desire
to go, but months went by
and I realised how fun it
was to go there and meet
new people. When I started
the Advanced course, I
knew I that I had to win the
Excellence Scholarship so I
prepared myself for that
moment. Now that I have
it, I just can’t express my
feelings; not a day goes by
without me thinking what
London will be like.
I have to thank all my
teachers, especially the
ones from the Advanced
course; my parents who
have been supporting me
since I took the exam; but
especially to BRITÁNICO
who have granted me this
once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity.
I am tremendously happy to
be writing these words. I
must start by telling you that
I have studied at the
BRITÁNICO for almost six
years and I have enjoyed it a
lot. I also want you to know
that each of you is capable
of winning the scholarship if
you wish so with all your
heart. Because if I have
learnt anything during this
time, it is that effort and
perseverance do pay off. I
also want to thank God, my
family and my friends for all
their support. I cannot
finish, however, without
mentioning
my
great
teachers that showed me
that they really cared about
my improvement. I will
never forget all these years
because they make me the
person

am

Hasta ahora no puedo
asimilar el momento en el
que vi el resultado del FCE.
Sabía que había cumplido
el requisito fundamental en

got on a roller coaster for

remembering. London is to
me, not only one of my
dearest memories now, but
also the future I dream of.
¿QUÉ SIFNIFICA
LONDRES?

As I waited for my trip to
London to arrive, I kept on
imagining how it would be.
However, as crazy as my
thoughts could have been,
they were not even close to
the wonders I experienced
there. The immense variety
of
people
and
the
breathtaking sceneries that I
found in London were just
more than anything I had
expected. I was able to walk
through London as a real
Londoner and to speak in
English as much as I pleased.
I visited some of the most
amazing places I have ever
seen and met some of the
nicest people I have ever
met.
I realized, in that seemingly
too short period of time,
what an amazing and
enormous world we live in,
what a small dot my world
used to be. But London has
widened it by introducing
me to all those excitingly

cosmopolitan, modern and
beautiful city was an
experience I will never
forget. I was given the
chance of visiting places so
full of history, sometimes
sad and sometimes happy,
but always interesting, and
to admire the impressive
architecture I soon fell in
love with. And for that I
thank the BRITÁNICO a
million times, because what
I’ve learned thanks to them
is not only English, it is way,
way more.

Ganador de la Beca a la
Excelencia 2012-III Cuando
pensamos
en
Londres, lo primero que se
nos viene a la mente es el
London Eye, el Palacio de
Buckingham o, tal vez, la
reina. Pero, en mi opinión, y
después de haber estado
allá por poco más de cuatro
semanas,
Londres
es
mucho más que eso.
Londres
es
cultura,
organización,
orden,
limpieza; es el meeting
point del mundo entero; es
una infinita cantidad de
idiomas, credos, opiniones y,
sobre todo, amigos que uno
puede llegar a conocer. Eso
es Londres, así que poder
decir «sí, compadre, estuve
en Londres» me hace uno de
los seres humanos más
suertudos del planeta.
Tratar
de
describir
la
experiencia en sí es un reto.
Podría empezar en ese
mágico instante en el que vi
la ciudad desde el avión y me
di cuenta de que Londres era
totalmente distinto a todo lo
que alguna vez había
imaginado;
o
también
cuando subí al taxi para ir al
lugar donde me iba a alojar y,
mientras veía casitas y
edificios tan peculiares, tuve
ganas hasta de tomarle una
foto al señor barbón de 1.90
m que estaba sacando a
pasear a su perro.
Pero una cosa es segura: los
adjetivos
para
describir
Londres sobran, y sería
redundante
(incluso
aburrido)
contarte
lo
«recontrachévere»
y
«locaza» que fue mi
estancia en Londres, todos
los lugares que conocí,
toda la diversión que tuve
allá con todo mi adorado
grupo
de
amigos,
etcétera... Por eso, con
estas líneas, además de
agradecer infinitamente al
BRITÁNICO,
quiero
contagiarte
esta
«enfermedad»
por
la
ciudad, que te den ganas
de esforzarte más, que
pienses en estudiar en el
BRITÁNICO y que te fijes
como objetivo el viaje a
Londres (porque, a decir
verdad, no creo que exista
otra institución mejor que
te dé este regalazo).
La Beca a la Excelencia es
posible, Londres es posible.
Londres está ahí, y con el
tiempo se hace aún más
espectacular. No importa el
mes en que vayas, no
importa si tienes paraguas
o no, no importa si tus
zapatos son incómodos o si
pierdes tu Oyster Card
(como a mí me pasó); lo
que importa es usar el
inglés como un arma que
te permita tener todo lo
que deseas. En Londres
siempre hay algo nuevo por
hacer; allá, si uno lo desea,
uno nunca se aburre.
Londres debe estar en
algún momento en tus
planes, y qué mejor manera
de hacerlo realidad que con
esta beca. Antes de
terminar
estas
líneas
quisiera, una vez más,
agradecer al BRITÁNICO y
resaltar que Londres es

CUÉNTAMELO 2013
El 4.° Encuentro Internacional de Cuentacuentos Cuéntamelo 2013, organizado por
el Centro Cultural Británico, se llevará a cabo del 25 al 30 de noviembre, en las
instalaciones de los auditorios de Miraflores, San Juan de Lurigancho, Surco,
Pueblo Libre, Los Jardines, San Borja y San Miguel.
Para este encuentro estarán llegando reconocidos narradores desde Chile,
Colombia, Cuba, España y México. Perú estará representado por Gary Aranda de
Ayacucho, Maite Cortez, Manuel Conde, Yeniffer Diaz y Flor Canales.
Dentro del desarrollo del encuentro tendremos presentaciones y
talleres personalizados de ingreso gratuito, y realizaremos
visitas de responsabilidad social en diferentes distritos de la
capital. Además, el sábado 26 en el auditorio de Miraflores
tendremos el «Cuéntame más, Perú», con una maratón con
nuestros narradores peruanos.

DE INGLATERRA PARA EL MUNDO
BLUR EN LIMA
LA BANDA INGLESA DEBUTA EN TERRITORIO
PERUANO COMO PARTE DE SU MÁS EXTENSA GIRA
POR LA REGIÓN.

CON PRESENTACIONES EN SIRIUSXM, DEWEY BEACH
MUSIC CONFERENCE Y BOWERY ELECTRIC.
La banda cumplió un viaje exitoso a los Estados Unidos. Se
presentó en Sirius XM, la radio satelital más importante de
Nueva York, tocó seis temas y grabó una entrevista para el
conocido programa La Kueva. Luego se presentó en vivo en
el Bowery Electric, que queda en la misma calle en la que
estaba el mítico CBGB's y donde este año se celebrará el
CBGB's Music Festival.
Después fueron a Dewey Beach, en Delaware, donde
participaron como banda oficial del festival. Tuvieron una
presentación sobresaliente y se ganaron rápidamente al
público estadounidense. La banda hizo numerosas
entrevistas y fue destacada en los dos periódicos más
importantes de la ciudad.

Five Music está orgulloso de confirmar la llegada de una
banda considerada dentro de las más excitantes,
trascendentes y muy clave en la historia del pop-rock
mundial: BLUR. La banda inglesa se presentará en el
Estadio San Marcos este Martes 29 de Octubre a las 9:30
pm.
Para completar el viaje, visitaron los
estudios de Telemundo, donde hicieron
una entrevista para el público
televidente latino de los Estados Unidos.
Este viaje no se habría podido lograr sin

'Jobs' es una película
que cuenta, con
todo detalle, la vida
de Steve Jobs, el
co-fundador

de la multinacional
estadounidense
Apple. La historia se
narra desde que era
tan solo un joven
rebelde, hasta el
momento en que
cambió el mundo
cuando fundó Apple
junto

Steve
Wozniak, a quien Jobs conoció en 1971, a través de un
amigo que tenían en común, Bill Fernández.
La película nos acerca a las circunstancias más importantes
en la vida de Jobs y habla de los deseos y motivaciones que
él tenía, siempre mencionando a las personas que
estuvieron siempre a su lado en sus decisiones más difíciles.
Un grupo de expertos han sido los
encargados
de
documentarse
y
cerciorarse de que todos los datos de este
biopic fueran auténticos y fieles al
personaje protagonista.
ANUNCIA SU GRAN ESTRENO PARA ESTE 31 DE

Tras la gran acogida obtenida en el 17 Festival de Cine de
Lima, la opera prima del director Gonzalo Benavente,
“Rocanrol 68”, producida por Argos Producciones
Audiovisuales, y con la producción general de Augusto
Tamayo, anuncia su gran estreno en las salas de cine.
En un momento donde el cine peruano vive un contexto de
éxito, llega “Rocanrol 68” con una propuesta distinta
marcada por un historia que reivindica la música rock’n roll
peruana de los años sesenta y que combina la comedia
romántica con la adolescente sin llegar al punto de ser un
musical.
El elenco de “Rocanrol 68” cuenta con figuras como Sergio
Gjurinovic, Gisela Ponce de León, Manuel Gold, Jesús
Alzamora, Leslie Shaw, Aldo Miyashiro, entre otros.

¡HERBERT PUCHTA EN LIMA!
Herbert Puchta, autor de Playway, libro utilizado en los cursos de PreKids, nos visitó a fines de setiembre y ofreció una
interesante sesión en nuestro auditorio de Miraflores a la que asistieron más de cien profesores. Esta sesión fue transmitida
a través de Livestream por lo que pudo ser vista también por varios otros profesores desde distintos puntos de la ciudad.

It is a charity that was founded in 1985, and one of the ways
that it raises money is through its Red Nose Day. Taking the
idea of the red nose after reading the article in our
SPEAKOUT UPPER-INTERMEDIATE book, my Intermediate 7
students and I decided to spend a Red Nose Day, although
we didn’t do it for charity but for fun, to have a memorable
class day and above all to break the routine. All the students
participated enthusiastically, wearing their red noses during
all the session, ending up in this happy photo (some of them
didn’t want to be seen with their red noses). Thank you, my
dear students, you made my day.

What do you hate doing at home?
This was the question I asked my
intermediate 3 students. Believe it
or not, answers such as making
beds, doing the washing up and
doing homework were the most
mentioned. My students focused
on solving those "common
problems"
using
modern
technology, so they created a
robot that was able to do those
chores. Needless to say, they were
really engaged and eager to do it. To complete the exercise,
they gave a clear presentation, highlighting important
features and adding supporting details.
To provide students with an insight into varying aspects of
British culture we have run several workshops at BRITÁNICO
Los Jardines. The purpose of this is to provide students with
information and knowledge about British culture which is
often very different from culture here in Peru. I can
enthusiastically say that they were all packed out and even
more successful than I had hoped. Without a doubt, the
main reason for the success of these workshops was the
eagerness and energy from the attending students; their
contributions, questions and interest in the workshops were
key to the great atmosphere. Past workshops included
general culture, music and comedy and contained a variety
of activities such as quizzes, videos and pictures; I tried to
have as much interactive time as possible. Coming soon: the
Premier League (the greatest football league in the world!),
food and drink, and a gruesome history of London!
Suggestions always welcome!
In addition to the workshops for students, a workshop was
also held for teachers. The rationale behind this exercise was
to provide teachers with more exact details about British
culture along with extra material, which could in turn be
used in the classroom without steering too far away from
the syllabus. To accomplish the objective, cultural topics
were selected from the rich source material that we use at
BRITÁNICO and then developed using extra material,
including videos, music and photos as well as my own
experiences. Without meaning to
sound conceited, I believe the
event was a great success
and I think everyone
learned something to
add
to
their

The aim is to showcase the very best and how Pop Art began in Britain but also the great impact
and legacy British artists such as Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, David Hockney, Allen Jones and
Patrick Caulfield had, not only in the UK but also abroad. * Pop art, widely known nowadays, is
an art movement that preceded
post-modern art.
* Richard Hamilton first used the term
'pop art' in the mid-1950s in Britain.
* The origins of pop art in North
America (late 1950s) and Great
Britain developed in different ways.
* The Independent Group, IG for
short, is regarded as the precursor to
the pop art movement and was
founded in London in 1952.
What can be expected? In the words of Richard Hamilton himself, "pop art" is
described as popular, transient, expendable, low-cost, mass-produced,
young, witty, sexy, gimmicky and glamorous. So, having that in mind, think
of more than 140 works with highlights of firmly established artists that
belonged to the pop movement on the British art scene. This includes one of
the first works David Hockney ever sold which still has its £12 price tag on the
back. As you might guess, dear reader, the current price is way, way more
than the original £12 which would now not even buy an adult ticket to get
into London Eye.
I once read that the concept of pop art refers not so much to the art itself as
to the attitudes that led to it. Would you agree? If you are interested in
knowing more, why don't you embark on your own personal journey ... pop

the most of them!
