La empresa familiar Bogenschuetz & Sons ha producido durante generaciones sólidas máquinas de textil en una pequeña ciudad suaba del
sur de Alemania, pero hoy en día la demanda ha descendido debido a
la competencia asiática. Michael Bogenschuetz (jefe joven) se ve forzado a negociar una venta con los chinos a espaldas de su padre. El
padre, Paul, se da cuenta e intenta conseguir ayuda de las hermanas
de Michael para rescatar el trabajo de su vida....
The family-run company Bogenschuetz & Sons has produced solid textile machines in a small Swabian city in southern Germany for generations. But nowadays demand is down since Asian competitors are cheaper. Michael Bogenschuetz (junior boss) is forced to negotiate on a sale
with the Chinese behind his father's back. But father Paul finds out and
tries to get help from Michael's sisters to rescue his life's work. ...
Dos jóvenes quinquis de 20 años salen cada día a la calle para buscarse la vida con lo que les salga. Pero además de sus cotidianos robos y
trapicheos, algo les revuelve en su interior. Cada uno desea lo que no
tiene. Simón quiere ser libre. Está harto de vivir rodeado de su gran
familia de feriantes. Jota no quiere seguir estando solo y lo único que
desea es tener su propia familia, por encima de lo que sea.
Two petty thieves in their twenties have a hum-drum existence as they
try their luck in the streets every day. Something however is eating
them up inside as they pilfer and conduct scams… each one yearns for
what they don’t have. Simon wants to be free; he is tired of being
surrounded by his travelling fair-ground family and hangers-on. Jota
does not want to continue life on his own. He wants to have his own
family, whatever that may take.

Un lugar privilegiado para encuentros, intercambios y hallazgos, los
festivales ofrecen un ambiente vibrante y accesible para la más
amplia variedad de talentos, historias y emociones que constituyen la
cinematografía europea.
El Programa MEDIA de la Unión Europea pretende promocionar el legado audiovisual europeo, favorecer el tránsito de películas entre países y
alentar la competitividad en la industria audiovisual. El programa MEDIA
reconoce el papel cultural, educativo, social y económico de los festivales
cofinanciado cada año casi 100 de ellos por toda Europa.
Estos festivales destacan por su rica y variada programación europea, por
su red de contactos y las oportunidades de encuentro e intercambio tanto
entre profesionales como entre el público en general; por sus actividades
de apoyo a los jóvenes profesionales; por sus iniciativas educativas y por
la relevancia que se da al fortalecimiento del diálogo entre culturas. En
2013, los festivales que recibieron la financiación del Programa MEDIA han
programado más de 40.000 proyecciones de obras europeas para casi 3
millones de cinéfilos.

Es titulado en Dirección Cinematográfica por el Centro Sperimentale di
Cinematografía (CSC) de Roma. Elegido Mejor Joven Realizador
Europeo de escuelas de cine por su cortometraje Berenice, a principio
de los 90, tras formar parte del proyecto 7 Huellas del productor Elías
Querejeta, crea Kinos Klan, su propia empresa de producción. En 1995
dirige a Carmen Maura, Juanjo Puigcorbé, Jean Pier Cassel y Rafael
Álvarez ‘El Brujo’ en la coproducción europea Amores que matan, una
comedia negra inspirada en la iconografía de Norman Rockwell que suscita el interés de la Twenty Century Fox tras su paso por el festival de
Montreal y las excelentes críticas en Variety. En 1999 propicia el debut
cinematográfico de Paz Vega y Eduard Fernández con Zapping, irónica
reflexión sobre el universo televisivo construida como un puzzle audiovisual de formatos y texturas. Sus últimas películas se ubican en un constante equilibrio entre la ficción y el documental que define un estilo personalísimo, en palabras del crítico Oscar Iarussi: ‘uno de los autores
españoles, o mejor dicho, europeos y mediterráneos, más interesantes y
singulares de los últimos veinte años’. Desnudos desnudos, premiada en
diversos festivales internacionales, o Buscarse la vida y El agua de la
vida, estas dos últimas fruto de su colaboración con el productor Elías
Querejeta. Su trabajo creativo abarca otras facetas como la docencia, la
literatura, la fotografía, el diseño gráfico y las artes plásticas. Su película The Unmaking of (O cómo no se hizo) fue galardonada en 2010 con
el Premio Especial del Jurado ‘Punto de Encuentro’ en la 55 edición de
la prestigiosa SEMINCI (Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid).
Acaba de dirigir su octavo largometraje titulado Vagabundo (Entre el
cielo y el mar), protagonizado por Ginés García-Millán y Antón Valén.
He holds a degree in Film Direction at the Centro Sperimentale di
Cinematography (CSC) in Rome. Voted Best Young European Director
for his short film Berenice, he created Kinos Klan, his own production
company in the early ´90s, after having been part of the 7 Huellas project
produced by Elías Querejeta. In 1995 he directed Carmen Maura, Juanjo
Puigcorbé, Jean Pier Cassel and Rafael Álvarez (‘El Brujo’) in the
European co-production Amores que matan, a black comedy inspired by
iconography of Norman Rockwell. Its screening at the Montreal Film
Festival, together with rave reviews in Variety, caught the attention of
20th Century Fox. In 1999 he contributed to the film debut of Paz Vega
and Eduard Fernández in Zapping, an ironic reflection on the world of
television, put together like a jigsaw puzzle of audio-visual formats and
textures. His latest films have been situated in the constant balance
between fiction and documentary which has defined his personal
directing style. In the words of the critic Oscar Iarussi: ‘One of the most
interesting and unique Spanish, or rather European or Mediterranean,
directors of the last 20 years’.
Buscarse la vida and El agua de la vida, made in collaboration with
producer Elías Querejeta, and Desnudos desnudos, awarded at several
international festivals, are his latest films. His output includes other
aspects besides direction, such as teaching, literature, photography,
graphic design and the plastic arts. His film The Unmaking of (O cómo
no se hizo) was awarded the 2010 Special Jury Prize in the 'Meeting
Point’ of the prestigious 55th SEMINCI (International Film Festival of
Valladolid). Chumilla-Carbajosa has just finished directing his eighth
feature, Vagabund (Between the sea and the sky), starring Ginés GarcíaMillán and Antón Valén.

Nació en Basilea en 1981 y vive actualmente en
Múnich. Desde 2002 hasta 2004, asistió a varios cursos
de cine y vídeo en la Escuela de Diseño de Berna y de
Basilea. En 2004, realizó unas prácticas de periodismo
visual en televisión local de Berna. Desde 2004 hasta
2006 estudió dirección cinematográfica en la MHMK
(Escuela Macromedia de Medios y Comunicación) de
Múnich donde recibió su diploma en 2007. Su primer
largometraje, Silberwald, participó en numerosos festivales de cine, incluyendo el Festival Internacional de Cine
de Valencia - Cinema Jove 2011 (Mención Especial del
Jurado). El filme ganó también varios premios, entre
ellos el Interfilmpreis Festival Max Ophüls Preis, el
Premio NDR al Mejor Director, y el Berner Filmpreis a la
Mejor Dirección. En la actualidad está desarrollando su
próximo largometraje.
She was born in Basel in 1981 and currently lives in
Munich. From 2002 to 2004 she attended several video
and film courses at the School of Design in Bern and
Basel. In 2004, she did a VJ internship at Tele Bärn, the
local television station in Bern. From 2004 to 2006 she
studied feature film directing at the MHMK Munich from
where she received her BA in 2007. Her first feature film
Silberwald participated in numerous film festivals, including the Valencia International Film Festival Cinema
Jove 2011 (Special Mention of the Jury). The film also
won several awards like the Interfilmpreis Festival Max
Ophüls Preis, the NDR Director-Award, and the Berner
Filmpreis for Best Directing. Nowadays, she’s developing
her next feature film.

Nació en 1974 en el seno de una familia artística en Skopje, Macedonia. Su relación con la cámara comenzó con sus primeras interpretaciones cuando aún era
una niña. Más tarde se formó como pintora y obtuvo su BA en Diseño Gráfico. Tras
una exitosa carrera como directora artística se pasó a la dirección cinematográfica. Realizó un MFA (Master of Fine Arts) cinematográfico en la Tisch School of Arts
de la Universidad de Nueva York.
Debutó como directora de cortos en 2001 con Veta, que recibió el Premio
Especial del Jurado en el Festival de Cine de Berlín. How I Killed a Saint, su primer largometraje, se estrenó en el Festival de Cine de Rotterdam en 2004, y ganó
varios premios por todo el mundo, como el de Mejor Película Europea en el
Festival de Cine Crossing Europe de Linz, Austria; y una Mención Especial del
Jurado en el Festival Cinema Jove.
Su filme I Am from Titov Veles se ha distribuido en salas de cine de 15 países
y se ha proyectado en más de 80 festivales, incluyendo el Festival de Cine de
Berlín –Panorama Section; Festival de Cine de Sarajevo (Premio Especial del
Jurado); Festival de Cine de Toronto –Discovery Section; Festival Cinema Jove
(Mención Especial del Jurado), Festival de Cine de Cannes 2008 –ACID selection.
La película ha obtenido más de 20 premios internacionales. Su tercer largometraje The Woman Who Brushed off Her Tears –protagonizado por Victoria Abril- se
estrenó internacionalmente en el Festival de Cine de Berlín 2012 (Special
Panorama), participó en la sección oficial del Festival Cinema Jove 2012 y fue
recientemente proyectada en ‘Visiconsociales’, una off section del Festival de
Cannes 2014.
Durante 2013, rodó y editó el largometraje documental Teresa and I, un trabajo
sobre la Madre Teresa. En la actualidad está preparando su nueva película, When
The Day Had No Name, así como un largometraje de animación stop motion junto
a su hermano Vuk: The Boy With a Torn Sock in His Right Hand. Durante los últimos cuatro años ha trabajado muy de cerca con su hermana Labina en la organización del Festival de Cine Manaki en Bitola, Macedonia.
Ha sido miembro del jurado en varios festivales de cine como: Premio ACID,

She made her debut as short film director in 2001 with Veta, which received the

Festival 2008 - ACID selection. The film won over 20 international awards. Her

Nació en Budapest, Hungría, en 1950. Estudió Bachillerato artístico,
sección artes gráficas, y más tarde fue admitido en la Escuela de Artes
Aplicadas de Budapest, en la especialidad Artes Gráficas donde se graduó en 1973.
Comenzó su carrera en Pannonia Film Studio, en el departamento de
marionetas, dirigido por Foky Ottó. En 1978 inicia su propia línea, mayoritariamente de películas de animación con plastilina. Su interés se volcó
más tarde en la animación con arena, técnica en la que hoy en día
sobresale.
En 1988 rompió moldes con su película de animación con arena Ab Ovo,
que fue premiada con el Golden Palm en Cannes. En 1989 realizó Ad
Rem, película de animación con carbón y plastilina que ganó varios premios en San Francisco y en Oberhausen. En 1994 obtuvo el premio Berlin
Golden Bear por su película de animación con arena, Ashes.
En 1995 creó su propio estudio, C.A.K.Ó. Stúdió, donde realizó varios de
sus propios filmes y dio la oportunidad a jóvenes artistas con talento de
trabajar allí también. Las películas de Cakó han obtenido los principales
premios en los festivales de cine de todo el mundo: Berlín, Cannes,
Annecy, San Francisco, Oberhausen, Valladolid, Zagreb… En 1999 obtuvo el premio Outstanding Artist of Hungary (artista más destacado de
Hungría).
En 1996 ingenió y creó el ‘Live Sand Animation Show’, un espectáculo
en el cual -con una música especial- sus dibujos realizados en vivo con
arena se proyectan sobre una gran pantalla para la audiencia.
Además de películas, ha realizado diversas exposiciones de sus gráficos, pinturas e instalaciones fílmicas. También ha ilustrado durante años
libros para niños y jóvenes.
Desde 2010 trabaja como profesor en Sopron, Hungría, en la Escuela de
Artes Aplicadas de la Universidad del Oeste de Hungría.
He was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1950. He attended the Secondary
School of Applied and Fine Arts, the Graphics Section and then was
admitted to the College of Fine Arts in Budapest to the Applied Graphic
Section where he graduated from in 1973.
He began his carrier at Pannonia Film Studio, in the department of the
Puppet Studio, led by Foky Ottó. In 1978 he started his own line, mostly
with clay-animation films. His interest later turned to sand animation and
he excels in this area these days.
In 1988 he made his big breakthrough with his sand and sculpture animation film Ab Ovo, awarded with the Golden Palm in Cannes. In 1989 he
created the coal-powder and clay animation film Ad Rem, which won the
main awards in San Francisco and Oberhausen. In 1994 he was awarded
with the Berlin Golden Bear for his sand animation film Ashes.
In 1995 he started his own studio, C.A.K.Ó. Stúdió, where he made
several of his own films and gave chance to young talented artists to work
there as well. Cakó’s films have won all the main prizes of film festivals all
over the world: Berlin, Cannes, Annecy, San Francisco, Oberhausen,
Valladolid, Zagreb… In 1999 he received the award Outstanding Artist of
Hungary.
In 1996 he had the idea and worked out a type of ‘Live Sand Animation
Show’, in which with special music on, his live drawing with sand is
projected in large size on screen for the audience.
Besides making films, he has been making several exhibitions from his
graphics, paintings and film installations. He has also illustrated books for
children and youth for many years.
Since 2010 he works as docent and holds lectures in Sopron, Hungary,
at the Institute of Applied Arts of the University of West-Hungary.

Completó su formación con Philippe Gaulier y Mar Navarro entre otros, y
estudió cuatro años en la escuela de baile de Carmen Senra. Desde sus
inicios, siempre la acompañó, supervisando su trabajo, Norma Bacaicoa,
excelente maestra de actores y también actriz, directora y coach.
Su primera oportunidad en el cine le llegaría con la comedia El palo
(Eva Lesmes, 2000), por la que fue nominada a los Goya como mejor
actriz revelación y que le abrió las puertas a una serie de trabajos en la
gran pantalla, la televisión y el teatro, con un gran reconocimiento de crítica y público. Sin embargo, fue con la mítica serie televisiva Aquí no hay
quien viva (2003-2006), con la que Malena Alterio logró la popularidad.
Otras series para la pequeña pantalla en las que ha participado son
Buenagente (2011), Supercharly (2009), La que se avecina (2007) y El
comisario (2003).

Muy vinculada a los escenarios teatrales desde sus inicios, Malena
Alterio ha participado en una quincena de montajes, entre ellos Los hijos
se han dormido (2012), una versión de La Gaviota de Chejov bajo la
dirección de Daniel Veronese; Madre coraje (2010), de Bertolt Brecht,
dirigida por Gerardo Vera para el Centro Dramático Nacional (CDN), por
el que fue galardonada con el Fotogramas de Plata; Tío Vania (2008), de
Chejov, bajo la dirección de Carles Alfaro; y El séptimo cielo (2002), con
José Pascual en la dirección.
She was born in Buenos Aires in 1974 started her training at the school
directed by Cristina Rota. She went on to study under Philippe Gaulier
and Mar Navarro among others; she also took dance studies at the
Carmen Senra Dance School. Ever since her early acting days, she has
been accompanied and supervised by Norma Bacaicoa who is an
excellent teachers of actors, an actress herself, as well as a director and
coach.
Her first opportunity in film came with the comedy El palo (Eva Lesmes,
2000) which earned her a Goya nomination for best new actress and
paved the way for being selected for a number of assignments for the big
screen, television and theatre. Her work was very well received by critics
and the public alike. However the famous TV series Aquí no hay quien
viva (2003-2006) proved to be the consecration of Malena Alterio’s
popularity. Other TV series she has acted in include Buenagente (2011),
Supercharly (2009), La que se avecina (2007) and El comisario (2003).
In cinema, her key works are Carta a Eva (Agustí Villaronga, 2011);

Closely involved with theatre circles since her early acting days, Malena
Alterio has participated in around fifteen productions including Los hijos
se han dormido (2012), a version of La Gaviota by Chekov and directed
by Daniel Veronese; Madre coraje (2010) by Bertolt Brecht and directed
by Gerardo Vera for the Centro Dramático Nacional (CDN); for this latter

Nació en Caracas en 1977. Durante sus estudios de Comunicación
Audiovisual en la UCAB en Venezuela, escribió Una voz tímida en un concierto hueco, cortometraje que filmó años más tarde, y con el que ganó
varios premios internacionales, entre ellos el de Mejor Cortometraje en el
Festival Latino de Los Ángeles (2001). Como profesional dirigió proyectos
de diferente naturaleza, desde spots publicitarios hasta documentales. En
2002 se trasladó a España para cursar un Master en guión de cine, y otro
en guión de televisión en la FIA-UIMP, y posteriormente, un Doctorado en
Fotografía y nuevos medios audiovisuales en la UPV. Mientras tanto, centra su trabajo profesional en la dirección y realización de series de ficción
para la televisión. En 2006 y 2007 filmó los cortometrajes El silencio de
los sapos y Todo recto, en Venezuela y España respectivamente.
Paralelamente, preparaba su ópera prima, La distancia más larga,
proyecto para el que obtuvo ayudas de escritura y producción en ambos
países.
La distancia más larga fue estrenada mundialmente en 2013 en la
Sección Oficial del prestigioso Festival Des Films Du Monde de Montreal,
evento en el que ganó el premio Glauber Rocha como Mejor Película de
América Latina. A este premio le siguió un intenso recorrido por festivales
internacionales de prestigio, y nuevos reconocimientos. Entre ellos, el premio del público a la Mejor Película en el 39º Festival Iberoamericano de
Huelva, y el ReelWomenDirect Award como Mejor Directora en el 38th
Cleveland International Film Festival (2014). Claudia Pinto tiene una
vinculación especial con Cinema Jove, ya que su primer cortometraje,
Una voz tímida en un concierto hueco, fue estrenado mundialmente en la
edición del 2001, y sus dos cortometrajes posteriores también han
formado parte de la Sección Oficial del festival.
She was born in Caracas in 1977. During her Audiovisual Communication
studies at the Andrés Bello Catholic University in Venezuela, she wrote
Una voz tímida en un concierto hueco, a short film made years later, with
which she won several international awards, including the Best Short Film
of the Festival Latino de Los Ángeles (2001). As a professional she
directed projects of various types, from commercials to documentaries. In
2002 she moved to Spain to study for an M.A. in screenwriting, and
another in TV-drama writing in the FIA-UIMP, and subsequently a Ph.D.
in Photography and new Audio-Visual Media at the UPV. Meanwhile, she
focused her professional attention in directing and creating a TV drama
series. In 2006 and 2007 she filmed the short-film El silencio de los sapos
and Todo recto, in Venezuela and Spain respectively. At the same time
she prepared her film debut, La distancia más larga, for which she
received assistance in writing and production from both countries.
La distancia más larga was released worldwide in 2013 in the Official
Selection of the prestigious Festival Des Films Du Monde in Montreal, an
event in which she won the Glauber Rocha Award for Best Film in Latin
America and Best Latin American Film. This award was followed by her
intense progress through prestigious international festivals, and fresh
recognition. Among them, the Audience Award for Best Film at the 39th
Ibero-American Festival of Huelva, and ReelWomenDirecting Award for
Best Director at the 38th Cleveland International Film Festival (2014).
Claudia Pinto has a special link with Cinema Jove, as her first short film,

JOACHIM LAFOSSE
(Bruselas, 1975). Es uno de los cineastas europeos más relevantes e
influyentes de nuestro tiempo. El Festival se complace en reconocer su
brillantez con el Premio Luna de Valencia Especial, y presentar esta
retrospectiva completa sobre su obra cinematográfica. Sus películas se
han visto reconocidas con los premios de festivales como Cannes, sin ir
más lejos, y su cine se ha presentado en España en primicia a través de
la Sección Oficial de Largometrajes de Cinema Jove, ganando la competición en 2009 con Élève Libre (Lecciones privadas, 2008).
Sus historias parten de lo cotidiano para transformarse en impactante
reflejo de la sociedad en que tienen lugar. Lafosse propone retratos de
familia y de las relaciones de autoridad y poder entre sus miembros, con
personajes atrapados en las ataduras de esas relaciones, con su libertad coartada. A través de los vínculos familiares, que devienen claustrofóbicos, Lafosse muestra el corazón de las sociedades occidentales de
nuestros días, construyendo sus películas sobre paradojas: acciones
que se presentan como buenas, como generosas, acaban generando
tragedias. En la película cuyo rodaje acaba de terminar en Marruecos,
Les chevalliers blancs, evita centrar la acción sobre otra familia, pero
mantiene su discurso sobre las buenas intenciones y el camino al
desastre, en esta ocasión a través de un grupo humanitario. Su estilo
es muy reflexivo sobre el modo de mostrar las acciones y reacciones de
sus personajes, particularmente qué parte de la historia deja fuera del
encuadre, con gran habilidad para hacer presente cuanto no se representa directamente en la imagen. El público del Festival tiene el privilegio de encontrarse con uno de los cineastas más brillantes del nuestros
días y, sin duda, de los venideros.

LUNA DE VALENCIA:
JOACHIM LAFOSSE
(Brussels, 1975). He is a European filmmaker in a relevant and
influential position in today’s cinema. The Festival takes pride in
recognising his brilliance by presenting him with the Special Luna de
Valencia Award and by offering an entire retrospective screening of his
works. His films have earned him awards at the Cannes festival, to name
but one. In Spain, premiere screenings of his works took place within the
Official Feature Film Category of Cinema Jove, where in 2009 he won
the award for Élève libre (Private Lessons, 2008).
His plots draw from life’s daily situations and transform into hard-hitting
reflections of the society in which they take place. Lafosse
proposes a series of filmic family portraits that reveal power
relationships among its members; we see characters unable to break
free from all manner of ties that undermine authentic freedom and
growth. By examining family settings that become claustrophobic,
Lafosse opens up the core of Western societies today with its big
paradoxes: actions which are presented as innately good and
generous, end up as tragedies. In a film that has just been shot in
Morocco, Les chevalliers blancs, the focus on a given family is avoided
but the discourse on supposed good intentions and the pathway to
disaster are maintained, this time through the activities of a
humanitarian group. His style is one of reflection and subtlety when
portraying the actions and reactions of his characters, particularly with
regard to the part of the story left out of the frame; in this sense he is
skilful at creating a presence, a discourse, for what is not captured as
pure image. The public attending the Festival will have the privilege of
meeting one of the most brilliant filmmakers of our time and, no doubt,
of the future.

limits to their relationship, his education takes a turn that is more than
merely academic.
Young Mounir has always lived with Dr. Pinget who has afforded him a
comfortable life ever since he was a child; when he decides to get
married and have children with Murielle, the woman he loves
passionately, the doctor’s dependence becomes excessive for the
couple.

El artista húngaro Ferenc Cakó es un maestro en el arte de la
transformación, un pintor bajo cámara, un creador en animación
con un toque original y espectacular para hacer surgir de la
arena, con sus manos: figuras, objetos e historias, composiciones en continuo cambio.
Polifacético y versátil: pintor, escritor y director de animación,
es ante todo un gran dibujante, y aunque ha trabajado con diferentes técnicas de animación desde hace mas de 30 años, es la
arena la que parece ajustar mejor a su personalidad creadora.
Sus obras en este medio revelan un gran dominio de la forma
y de la materia inerte, que cobra vida bajo sus manos, constituyendo un acto de creación en movimiento; en donde la huella,
el gesto y su impronta de autor, van conformando plano a plano
a los protagonistas de sus filmes. Hombres, mujeres, pájaros,
rostros, ojos, bocas, dientes, entre otros elementos, encadenados en una continua metamorfosis, van surgiendo entre sus
dedos en un juego contrapuesto de luz y sombra. Sus animaciones, sobrias de color, son siempre visualmente impecables.

A chair thrown out comes alive and begins to roam the streets of
Budapest at dawn. Nobody is interested in it anymore as it sadly looks
at a collection of new furniture in a shop's window.

The Hungarian artist, Ferenc Cakó is a master of the art of
transformation, a painter under the scrutiny of the camera, an
animation creator offering an original and spectacular touch that
makes figures, objects, whole stories and compositions rise up
from sand in a continuous symphony of change.
Multifaceted and versatile by nature, he is a painter, writer, and
animation director. He is above all a talented master of drawing
and, despite having worked with different animation
techniques for over de 30 years, sand seems to best fit his
creative persona.
His works reflect a great mastery of the nuances of shape and
of inert materials; they spring to life thanks to his skilful hands.
We bear witness to his act of creation in movement. Here the
aftermath, the gesture and the personal imprint of the author are
conveyed frame by frame and scene by scene to create each
character in his films. Men, women, birds, faces, eyes, teeth, all
these elements and more undergo a continuous metamorphosis.
His hand-created imagery skilfully plays with balanced light and
shadow. His compositions do not have excessive colour and are
always visually impeccable.

Haciendo gala de una gran versatilidad, Aura ha participado en los proyectos cinematográficos más variados.
Se ha aventurado con fortuna en todo tipo de género y
ha ido configurando en pocos años un atractivo currículum, en el que coinciden producciones muy taquilleras
con ejemplos del cine más independiente o alternativo,
como Los ilusos (Jonás Trueba, 2013). Paralelamente,
ha experimentado una frenética actividad televisiva,
que le ha acercado al público más joven y no ha hecho

2013).. At the same time, at an almost frantic pace, she
has worked in television and has been much admired
by younger TV audiences, hence paving the way for an
assured ‘future in film’ as an actress.

En un Festival como el nuestro, que centra su atención en la obra de
nuevos cineastas, siempre hemos creído conveniente reivindicar la
vigencia de los clásicos. Desde hace algunos años, a través de la
sección Cuadernos de rodaje, hemos querido que esa presencia de
títulos imprescindibles de la Historia del Cine viniera de la mano de
cineastas admirados por el público del Festival, programando las películas que de forma más determinante han influido en sus respectivas
carreras, e invitando a dichos cineastas a mantener un encuentro con
el público en el que hablar del porqué de dichas influencias.
Este año hemos solicitado su selección a uno de los maestros del cine,
GONZALO SUÁREZ, cuya selección propone clásicos imperecederos y
magistrales. Junto a títulos esenciales de Renoir, Fellini y Monicelli,
selecciona títulos de Carol Reed, Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock y
Robert Mulligan que evidencian los temas y obsesiones comunes que
comparten con la filmografía de Suárez y su universo: la querencia por
la sombra, por el reflejo, por el desdoblamiento de identidades, por el
“otro” interior que asoma y se manifiesta como en las pesadillas del
Romanticismo alemán… Coherente como pocas la genial selección del
hombre que comparte su fuero interno con Martín Girard…
Estamos convencidos de que el público podrá gozar en su encuentro
con Suárez de uno de los momentos más privilegiados de la historia del
Festival; en la conversación, la sabiduría del cineasta fluye en tono de
juego, y los abismos de la vida y del arte emergen en un clima propicio
a la diversión. El cineasta es, en definitiva, el alter ego de su cine (y viceversa), y el Festival programa, junto con su selección de clásicos, dos de
los títulos más celebrados entre los que componen su obra: Remando al
viento y Don Juan en los Infiernos. Doble honor.
In a festival like ours, where we pay particular attention to the works of
new filmmakers, we have always felt that it’s most desirable to stress the
enduring relevance of the classical masters. For some years now,
through our section Shooting Notes, we intented that the presence of
essential film classics would come from the selection of much admired by
our audience filmmakers, programming the films that have had a decisive
influence on their creativity and careers. We also invite those filmmakers
to an informal gathering with the public to talk about these influences.
This year, we present the timeless and magnificent films that have
influenced GONZALO SUÁREZ. Suárez proposes the essential works of
Renoir, Fellini and Monicelli, as well as key works by Carol Reed, Ingmar
Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock and Robert Mulligan, which embodies the
themes and obsessions that are intrinsic to the filmmaker’s repertoire and
his universe: the longing for shadow, reflection, the doubling up of
identities, and the concern for that ‘other’ lurking inside and pushing to
the surface in angst, as was reflected in German Romanticism… We will
admire the coherence of the selection of a man who shares his approach
to the realm of the interior with Martín Girard…
We are convinced that the audiencie will enjoy the encounter with
Suárez in perhaps one of the most privileged moments in the history of
the Festival; we have here an opportunity to chat with and share the
wisdom of the filmmaker. With him we will explore and reflect upon the
abysses of life and of art, which give rise to joyful debate. The
filmmaker is, after all, the alter ego of his filmic works (and vice-versa)
and the Festival will programme in its screenings, together with his own
selection of classics, two of the most celebrated titles in his filmography:
Rowing in the Wind and Don Juan in Hell. This indeed is a double
honour that cannot be missed.

En un momento en que cobra relevancia el debate sobre
la construcción europea, el Festival propone siete miradas
sobre el acontecimiento que marca su origen a través de
cineastas que contribuyen a conformar el imaginario
colectivo europeo. En las películas seleccionadas predomina la preocupación humanista, clave para asentar los
pilares de la Europa de hoy.
En esta sección podrá el espectador revisar grandes
clásicos junto con títulos menos accesibles, pero igualmente de gran valor histórico y cinematográfico. Los nombres de grandes maestros como Pabst, Renoir, Monicelli o
Tavernier son un buen aliciente para el público, pero a la
vez queremos llamar la atención sobre los títulos soviético
y polaco incluidos, éste último nunca estrenado en
España. Cierra nuestra selección el más reciente de los
títulos propuestos, Joyeux Nöel, coproducción entre varios
países que participaron en la contienda.

Four German soldiers of very different personalities serve at the
Western Front during the last years of World War I. All four experience
the horrors of war in different ways.
At a moment when the debate about the construction of
Europe is seemingly more relevant, the Festival proposes
seven different approximations to the bloody conflict that,
in part, gave rise to its modern conception. We offer the
works of five filmmakers who have helped create the
collective European imagination. The films selected largely
focus on the humanistic dilemmas without which we would
not be able to fathom today’s Europe.
The spectator will be able to revisit key classical works,
as well as other, less well-known titles that are nonetheless
of great historic or filmic interest. The names of great
masters like Pabst, Renoir, Monicelli or Tavernier will
undoubtedly attract public interest; on the other hand we
wish to offer greater exposure to Soviet and Polish works;
the last one in particular has never been screened in
Spain. The selection is rounded off by the most recent of
the proposed films, Joyeux Nöel, a co-production that has
brought together various countries that were in fact
enemies during the tragedy of The Great War.

Zagreb Film es una célebre productora de cine croata
fundada en 1953 que ha estado creando excelente animación desde principios de los años 50. En total ha producido
más de 650 películas animadas y ha recibido más de 400
premios. En su mayor parte dibujadas a mano, estas
películas constituyen una de las colecciones de obras más
significativas del mundo de la animación creativa. Esta
retrospectiva incluye Surogat, de Du!an Vukoti" -el primer
film no americano que ganó un Oscar en la categoría Corto
de Animación en 1964- junto con cortometrajes de algunos
de los mejores directores de Zagreb Film: Dovnikovic, Grgic,
Dragic y Mimica.
Zagreb Film is a famous Croatian film-producing company
founded in 1953. Zagreb Film has been creating splendid
animation since the early 1950’s. In all they have produced
more than 650 animated films and received more than 400
prizes. Predominantly hand-drawn, these films form one of
the most significant collections of work existing in the world
of creative animation. This retrospective includes Dusan
Vokotic’s Surogat (the first non-American film to win the
Oscar for Best Animated Film, in 1964), along with films from
some of Zagrebfilm’s top directors including Dovnikovic,
Grgic, Dragic and Mimica.

cultura europea. En la actualidad, gracias a una nueva generación de autores de talento, junto a reconocidos maestros,

Polonia.
O!PLA ACROSS THE BORDERS es un excepcional programa de cortometrajes de animación que incluye las obras
premiadas en el Festival de animación O!PLA, cuya primera edición se celebró en 21 ciudades polacas, del 5 de abril
al 9 de junio de 2013, y en el que sólo el público decide los
ganadores.
O!PLA ACROSS THE BORDERS recoge lo mejor de la animación polaca de los últimos años: trabajos realizados in
estudios profesionales, producciones totalmente independientes, trabajos de graduación (escuelas de animación) y
videos musicales de animación. Un proyecto de animación
itinerante que ha viajado ya a Gran Bretaña, Rusia,
Eslovaquia, Rumania, Serbia, Argentina, Canadá, Brasil y
que llega ahora a España a través del Festival Cinema Jove.
Polish animation is one of the biggest treasures of the
European culture. Currently, thanks to young talented
authors, as well as renowned artist, is still one of the leading
artistic domains in Poland.
O!PLA ACROSS THE BORDERS is an exceptional program
of animated shorts which includes the winners of the Festival
of Polish Animation ‘O!PLA’, whom first edition was held in 21
Polish cities, from April 5th to June 9th 2013, and in which
only audience decide about the winners.
O!PLA ACROSS THE BORDERS gathers the best of
contemporary Polish animation: films made in professional
studios, fully independent animation, graduation films
(schools) and animated music videos. An itinerant animation
program which has already travelled to the UK, Russia,
Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Argentina, Canada, Brazil, and
has now reached Spain through the Cinema Jove Festival.

'Jugendverwahrlager' fue un campo de concentración para niños polacos (1942-1945) oculto en el gueto de Lodz. Las caras de los niños son
fotografías de prisioneros sin nombre extraídas de los archivos del
campo.
A lumberjack and his son live in a solitary little house hidden between a
deep forest and a huge oceanic cliff. Everything is idyllic, until one day
the lumberjack cuts down a strange tree.
'Jugendverwahrlager' was a concentration camp for Polish Children
(1942-1945) hidden in the middle of the Lodz Ghetto. Faces of the
children are photographs of nameless prisoners from camp records.

table, he is sleeping placidly in his large bed. As for Petra, she works
cleaning the stairs, as she has always done, in that stately building. Sara
is at university and she must make a dash from there to get to her job on

commit suicide. Since he has witnessed many of those cases, he has
developed a method to convince them not to do so. But not all cases
are so easy.
Atanasio has just left a mental health unit and hopes to get on with his
life and work as a night watchman at an art museum. There is a picture
there with which he feels a strong bond; ever since childhood he has
been captivated by it.
