A Letter from Our Pastor
Amazing Saints (and Us)
Recently it was announced that
Mother Teresa of Calcutta
would be canonized
on September 4th. She will be
canonized along with Maria Elisabetta Hesselblad,
a nurse and convert who founded a new order of
the Bridgettines, and Father Stanislaus
Papczynski, a priest known for his writings and
encouragement to contemplate God's mercy.
We can truly be saints for each other! Our universal
call to holiness, as the Second Vatican Council
taught, means that each of us strives to be exactly
what God intends us to be. For each of us, that is
saints. Sainthood is not limited to the Mother
Teresas of the world, but extends to each father and
mother dutifully raising their children in the faith, to
the widow or widower serving as a voice of wisdom
in their own witness. Children are not exempt, as we
see with Jose Luis Sanchez. Children, in their purity
and sincerity of heart, show us Christ's call for the
little children to "come to him".
Two more canonizations will take place on October
16th: Father Jose Gabriel del Rosario Brochero,
an Argentinian priest who ministered to the sick and
dying while suffering leprosy himself, and a 14-year- A canonization is always an exciting event in the

Discuss Next Sunday’s Readings with Deacon Walter Sweeney

Acts, 14:21-27. Paul and Barnabas continue their missionary journey. Making many disciples, appointing elders (church
leaders) and reminding them that, “It is necessary to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” How have
these aspects of the faith been provided to you? How has God opened “the door of faith” to you? Just as God has done
these works through those who spread the faith to you, how is He working through you?
Psalm 145: 8-13. Praise for all the joy, peace and the goodness of life we possess in the glorious life of faith! If we are not
living in peace and joy, even with the “many hardships” we necessarily must undergo in this world, get that looked into.
Revelation 21:1-5. In another prayerful vision of the other realm, the kingdom of God, John is experiencing the “new
Jerusalem.” There God dwells with us and even the necessary hardships of the secular order have completely passed
away, and there will be no more tears or pain. God awaits us there in its fullness. How do we already live in the Kingdom of
God in some ways?
Gospel of John13: 31-35. Jesus answers by giving us his new commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you.”
The life of the Kingdom is complete, unselfish, unconditional love. Jesus’s love is the model for the family, the Church and
the Christian life. We are last and the other is always first in our loving eyes. Can others look at us at SHJ and say, I can tell
they are disciples of the Lord Jesus because of the way they have love for one another and the way they love me?
Let’s see where the Lord is trying to take us. See you on Wednesday.

Students & Parents Drive School Food Drives!
SHJ’s Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO), with lots of
participation by students, their parents and teachers,
make the Fall and Spring Food Drives big successes.
In fact, Food Drives are the Pantry’s major suppliers.
Monday through Friday this week SHJ 8th-graders will
deliver what’s collected to Harvest of Hope, then
weigh, sort and stock the items. It’s a big job and our
students carry it out with gusto!

SANTOS INCREIBLES (Y NOSOTROS)
Recientemente se anunció que la Madre Teresa de Calcuta sería canonizado el 4 de septiembre.
Ella será canonizada junto con Maria Elisabetta Hesselblad, una enfermera y convertida que fundó
una nueva orden del Santísimo Salvador de Santa Brígida, y el P. Estanislao Papczynski, un cura que
es conocido por sus escritos y estímulo para contemplar la misericordia de Dios. Dos canonizaciones
más tendrán lugar el 16 de octubre. Canonizado ese día será el P. José Gabriel Brochero, un cura
argentino que atendía a los enfermos y moribundos y sufría de lepra sí mismo, y un chico de 14 años,
José Luis Sánchez, que murió mártir en México en 1928 durante la persecución mexicana.
Cuando nos fijamos en esta "alineación", es asombroso considerar la gracia de Dios, y su
vocación universal. Aquí tenemos un muchacho joven, una joven monja, un anciano, cura enfermos y
una mística de la Edad Media. Esto se suma a la Madre Teresa de feliz memoria para muchos. Dios
llama verdaderamente hombres y mujeres y niños de todas las épocas a ser portadores de mensaje de
amor y misericordia de Cristo. Esta llamada es un ejemplo de sí mismo en el que la santidad que la
Iglesia reconoce oficialmente. Sin embargo, también se manifiesta a cada uno de nosotros en nuestra
vida cotidiana.
Realmente podemos ser santos para los demás! Nuestra vocación universal a la santidad, como el
Concilio Vaticano II enseñó, significa que cada uno de nosotros se esfuerza por ser exactamente lo que
Dios quiere que seamos. Para cada uno de nosotros, es decir santos. La santidad no se limita a la
Madre Teresa del mundo, sino que se extiende a cada padre y madre criar a sus hijos diligentemente
internacional él la fe, a la viuda o el viudo que sirve como una voz de la sabiduría en su testimonio
ganado. Los niños no están exentos, como vemos con José Luis Sánchez. Los niños, en su pureza y
sencillez de corazón nos muestran la llamada de Cristo para que los niños se "vengan a él".
Una canonización es siempre un acontecimiento emocionante en la iglesia. La canonización de la
Madre Teresa seguramente será una gran oportunidad "peregrina" para que muchos llegaron a Roma.
Pero la santidad de verdad florece en nuestros hogares e iglesias. Cuando una familia se reunieron
alrededor de una mesa de la cena, allí está Cristo en medio de ellos. Y, una comunidad de fe se reúne
en la iglesia para dar el debido honor y gloria a Dios. Dios sigue mostrando su voluntad divina para el
mundo, y lo vemos muy bien en la vida de los santos heroicos.
Cuando nuestras luces brilla (como Dios manda), añadimos nuestro propio legado a esta lista de
santos increíbles!
