Meet Gracie! She is our October 2016 DSAH calendar model! Gracie is 6 years
old and she joined our family just before turning four from an orphanage in
Bulgaria. She learned to walk within 4 months of coming home and starting
therapy. Her favorite toy is her pink glo-worm and enjoys watching girly Disney
movies. She loves to play outside with her brother in a baseball league every
spring and fall. Gracie is happiest when she is with her family and she continues

Conozca a Gracie! Ella es nuestra modelo del mes de Octubre del año 2016! Gracie tiene
6 años y se unió a nuestra familia antes de cumplir sus cuatro anos al ser adoptada de un
orfanato en Bulgaria. Aprendió a caminar a los 4 meses de llagar a este país y empezar
terapias. EL juguete favorito de ella es un gusano rosado que alumbra en la oscuridad y

The Mission of the Down Syndrome Association of Houston is to provide programs and support to
individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the professionals who serve them; and to create
awareness in the community through advocacy, education and medical outreach.
We envision a community in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance the
quality of their lives, realize their life aspirations, and become accepted as part of our very diverse society.

Celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness month at
Join DSAH at the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Sunday, October 16 from 10am to 2pm.
All of DSAH’s members will receive a special group rate between $8 and $16 for the different
exhibitions and attractions. All individuals with special needs will receive a FREE ticket to the
permanent exhibit halls!! Tickets for other activities will be available for purchase at a discount.
To reserve your tickets and see complete price list, please visit www.DSAH.org. Tickets will need to
be purchased once you arrive at the museum. DSAH will provide the discount coupon at the
museum on 10/16. Discount is only valid for this day with DSAH.

Meet Isaiah! He is our November 2016 DSAH calendar model! Isaiah is 4
working hard on learning his colors and shapes! He enjoys coloring,
drawing and playing soccer. He is a very active boy and loves to dance
and jump. He likes playing with his trains and cars but his IPad is definitely his favorite! He likes it when he is with his family at the park and
playing at McDonald’s! When he grows up he wants to be a soccer
player!

They got to do some horseback riding, fishing, deer
feeding, a variety of sports
& arts and crafts, campfire
and s’mores, and a big Hoedown dance!

The E4L participants recently showed their compassion and generosity
by making homemade gift
bags, gift cards, and cookies & delivered them to our
neighbors.
They had so much fun
making them, but the best
part was meeting our
neighbors and putting smiles on their faces!
Our last summer field
trip was so much fun!
We went to Break Free
Hip Hop school for an
art class & break
dance session with
some of the coolest bboys in town!
We want to thank
Break Free for once
again spending time
with our students and
inspiring them to express themselves and
be creative in dance.
We wish them all the
best at their new center and can't wait to
go see it!
Cooking Class
The Tuesday/Thursday cooking class showed off their
culinary skills and took it back to basics last week making delicious scrambled eggs. Each STAR fired up the
electric skillet, added a bit of cooking spray, cracked the
egg and scrambled with a spatula.
We were so impressed to see that some STARS have
already mastered this skill.
They were provided a variety of ingredients to
add including, tomatoes, onions, salt, pepper and
shredded cheese. They also had the option to put it on
a tortilla and add salsa.
Your STAR may be ready to show their skills at home
and help make Sunday breakfast now!

Meet Kristin! She is our December 2016 calendar model! Kristin is 30
years old and enjoys listening to music, doing word search puzzles,
coloring by number, dancing and celebrating her birthday! She likes
bowling, going to restaurants, church and the Buddy Walk. She attends the Education for Life program and LOVEs being a part of the
DSAH Pantomime Troupe. She is happy when she is with her family,
especially her Godmother Barbara. She wants to work at DSAH in the
near future!
