A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
This weekend we are highlighting Montini
Catholic Grade School since this is Catholic
Schools Week. You will have heard one of
our families speak to you at Mass. Montini
School is a rare entity as there are three
parishes that feed into the school. We enjoy
a great relationship between the parishes,
which makes it better for all of us. Montini
has about 300 students presently. Holy
Apostles represents about 60%, St. Patrick
25% and St. Mary 15%. We have wonderful
students and very competent faculty. Our
principal, Mr.
Shukis is in his
second year and
doing a wonderful job along
with Mrs. Stark
at the Primary
Building.
Catholic education faces many
challenges
these days.
We spend 20%
of our parish
income on
Montini. We have formed a strategic plan
for the future. We are now putting committees together to work through our plan. I
am hopeful for our future, because we
have so many interested and involved
alumni. If you have not checked out the
school please do so during the Open
House today from 10 AM to 12:30 PM.
Have a Blessed Week!
Father Paul
What will you surrender to
God's Mercy this Lent?
Lent will begin soon (Ash Wednesday is
February 10). We invite you to consider
what God is calling you to surrender to His
loving mercy this Lenten season. For the
next few weeks there will be a display of
blank crosses in the narthex on which we
invite you to write your intention and then
place it where indicated. The crosses will
be displayed as a part of our Lenten Art
and Environment.
WE OFFER OUR PRAYERS FOR:
All the homeless, the unemployed, the military, the addicted, the
grieving, the imprisoned, and the physically and emotionally ill.

poverty to transition to self-sufficiency with community
support. In the McHenry area ‘Bridges Out of Poverty’

New Adult Faith Formation Study Offered
A new women’s study will be offered on Monday mornings
called Living in the Power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy
Spirit is sometimes the hardest person of the Holy Trinity
for us to understand and relate to. This study explains to
us who the Holy Spirit is, His role in the Trinity, what His
many titles are, how He works within the Church and the
community of the Church, and explores the Gifts and
Fruits of the Holy Spirit. This woman’s study meets from
9:00 to 10:30 AM, beginning on Monday, February 8, in
St. Therese room in Apostles Bay. The facilitator is Geri
Condon. Contact Jeanne Fraser at 815-385-5673, ext.

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
We Share Our Blessings
Our Parish Tithe this week will be given to Ima Bridge
Africa, founded by Fr. Godwin Asuquo, pastor of St.
Patrick Church, McHenry. Ima, in Fr. Godwin’s native
dialect, means love. ImaBridge Africa is building a bridge
of love to the needy people of Africa.
Upcoming Lenten Events
The Lenten season will be here in a few weeks and the
traditional liturgy of Stations of the Cross will be prayed
on Wednesdays in Lent at 7 PM. Following the Stations,
several speakers will be offered to help us focus on surrendering to God’s mercy. On February 17 and March 2,
our own Fr. Tim Siegel will be our speaker. On February
24, Dr. Scot Hodkiewicz, author of “Getting to Heaven by
Going Through Hell” will speak about his near death that
changed his life forever. Reading his book before the talk
is recommended to get the full impact of his message.
The book is available on holyapostlesreligiousgoods.org
and they will also be available in the store. Please mark
your calendars for these three special Lenten events.

with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. Take some time each

Holy Apostles for use when filing your income tax returns. To request a donations letter email Sue Draffkorn

SVdPS Helps Keep Electric On
Cold winter months bring increases in heating costs as
we all try to stay warm. For those struggling with bills,
these are especially difficult months. The St. Vincent
de Paul Society recently assisted a young family of 4
with their ComEd bill and with food. Both parents lost
their jobs within a few months of each other, going a
full month with no income at
all. While one parent has
since found a job, they fell
behind in their payment plan
to ComEd. Thanks to your
donations to the Poor Box,
SVdPS was able to make a
partial payment to ComEd to continue the family's
electric services, which were crucial for their asthmatic
son. The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor
as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater
than these. Mark 12:31
