DE GIRA CON LA NATURAL COLLECTION

Abril fue el mes en que dio comienzo nuestra gira 2011 para presentar la Natural Collection. Las ferias de I Saloni, en Milán, e ICFF,
en Nueva York, fueron las paradas seleccionadas para el primer semestre del año. En otoño la Natural Collection estará presente en
Valencia y Berlín con stands propios, y también en Tokio y Londres
de la mano de ICEX.
Elegimos ambientes artesanos y tonos neutros en los que sean
los productos los que aporten las notas de color. El objetivo de los
stands de Milán y New York era dar la bienvenida a los visitantes
a un espacio natural tanto por su puesta en escena, como por la
espontaneidad que nos caracteriza.
Lo mejor fue compartir la Natural Collection con muchos de vosotros; porque nos encanta intercambiar impresiones con clientes,
prensa y diseñadores. Recibimos numerosas felicitaciones por
Folk y Soul; la colección Tea fue un acierto en su totalidad. Por su
parte, Tab y Pauli, se hacen imprescindibles en nuestros hogares.
Patchwork y Capas se convierten en un secreto deseo.
Fueron intensos días de trabajo en los que también tuvimos
tiempo, y algo de energía extra, para disfrutar de algunos de los
numerosos eventos que tenían lugar. Por Milán estuvimos cenando con la revista Apartamento en una especie de “cita a ciegas”; en
la Triennale, asistimos a la fiesta de Karim Rashid. También vimos
la inquietante performance de Gaetano Pesce sobre la crisis de la
política italiana. Visitamos además Sestosenso, la exposición conjunta de Kvadrat y Flos, donde la luz ultravioleta tenía una misión
secreta. Seguidamente nos dejamos caer por el mítico Bar Basso
donde Marset organizó su particular encuentro y nos encontramos unas cuantas caras amigas.
En Nueva York nos encontramos con más caras conocidas como
José Manuel Ferrero de estudi(h)ac, al que acompañamos en la
ponencia coordinada por Coolhunting. Fuera del Jacob Javits,
asistimos al Noho Design District comisariado por Sight Unseen.
Fue una de nuestras citas obligatorias con el mundo del diseño
en un barrio donde se respiraba creatividad y talento. Además
visitamos las renovadas oficinas de ICEX en el maravilloso Chrysler
Building.

ON TOUR WITH OUR NATURAL COLLECTION
April was the month in which we started our tour of 2011 to show our
Natural Collection. I Saloni, in Milan, and ICFF, in New York were the
selected venues during the first semester of the year. In autumn the
Natural Collection will be present at the Valencia and Berlin fairs with
proper stands, and also in Tokio and London with ICEX.
We selected craft environments and neutral tones where products
provided a touch of colour. The objective of the booth in Milan and
New York was to welcome the visitors to a natural area both for its
staging, and by the spontaneity that characterizes us.
The best part was sharing the Natural Collection with many of you,
because we love to exchange ideas with customers, press and designers. We received many congratulations for Folk and Soul; the Tea
collection was a great hit. For their parts, Tab and Pauli, are essential
in our homes. Patchwork and Capas have become very desirable.
We had intense days of work in which we also had time – and, surprisingly, some extra energy - to enjoy some of the many events that
took place. In Milan we had dinner with the magazine Apartamento
in a kind of “blind date”; at the Triennale, we attended the celebration
of Karim Rashid. We also saw the amazing performance of Gaetano
Pesce on the crisis of Italian politics. We also visited Sestosenso, the
joint exhibition of Kvadrat and Flos, where ultraviolet light had a secret mission. Next, we went to the legendary Bar Basso, where Marset
organized its own particular gathering, and met many friendly faces.
In New York we found more familiar faces like José Manuel Ferrero of estudi(h)ac, whom we accompanied in his lecture-interview,
coordinated by Coolhunting. Outside the Jacob Javits, we attended
the Noho Design District curated by Sight Unseen. It was one of our
mandatory appointments with the world of design in a neighbourhood where one breathes creativity and talent. We also visited the
renovated offices of ICEX in the wonderful Chrysler Building.

EL SHOWROOM DEL ESTUDIO
ACERO IN_
El pasado 17 de Marzo asistimos a la inauguración de A-cero In,
el showroom que el conocido estudio ha abierto en Madrid, en
pleno barrio de Salamanca. Una pionera e innovadora apuesta en
España encabezada por los arquitectos Joaquín Torres y Rafael
Llamazares, que celebran la apertura de la que es su primera
tienda.
En tonos blancos, negros y grises este espacio alberga mobiliario
y objetos de decoración proyectados por A-cero. No obstante,
encontramos también una selección de obras de artistas noveles,
antigüedades, libros e incluso música.
Entre fresas y champán pudimos disfrutar de los cálidos ambientes
que conforman este santuario para los amantes de la moda. El sofá
Ace, diseñado por A-cero para Sancal, invitaba al descanso en la
entrada del showroom. Repleto de los cojines Mandarinas lució
espectacular.
THE FAMOUS STUDIO’S NEW SHOWROOM
On 17th of March last, we attended the launch of ‘A-cero In’ - the
showroom which the well-known studio has opened in Madrid, in
the heart of Salamanca district. This is a pioneering and innovative commitment in Spain led by architects Joaquin Torres and
Rafael Llamazares, who celebrate the opening of their very first
store.
In whites, blacks and greys, this space has furniture and decorative objects designed by A-cero. However, we also find a selection of
works by young artists; antiques; books and even music.
Celebrating with strawberries and champagne, we enjoyed the
warm environment that makes up this sanctuary for lovers of
fashion. The Ace Sofa, designed by A-cero for Sancal, invited one
to rest in the entrance to the showroom - it was filled with the
Mandarinas cushion collection and looked spectacular.

_SYDNEY
Diageo, la empresa de licores, cerveza y vinos, ha renovado sus
instalaciones en Sydney. El proyecto, además de un cambio de
ubicación y de la ampliación de sus instalaciones, aspiraba a actualizar la imagen de la empresa.
El estudio de diseño de Hamilton Thomson es el responsable del
magnifico resultado. Tomando como materia prima un antiguo
almacén, el estudio ha conseguido crear espacios funcionales y
con marcada personalidad. Teniendo en cuenta que la filosofía de
Diageo es Celebrar la vida cada día en cualquier lugar, el proyecto
pretendía, y a nuestro juicio, lo ha logrado, revitalizar la empresa
mediante el uso de materiales y mobiliario no convencionales. Los
sillones Boomerang Chill diseñados por Quim Larrea para Sancal
forman parte de la singular selección de mobiliario.
DIAGEO
Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks business - with an outstanding collection of brands, spanning spirits, beer and wine - has renovated its premises in Sydney. The project, besides a relocation and
expansion, aimed to update the company image.The design studio
Hamilton Thomson is responsible for the magnificent results. Taking
an old warehouse as a raw material, the studio has succeeded in creating functional spaces with a strong personality. Given that Diageo’s
philosophy is ‘Celebrating life every day, everywhere’, the project
aimed -and in our view, has managed - to revitalize the company
by using unconventional materials and furniture. Boomerang Chill
armchairs designed by Quim Larrea for Sancal are part of the unique
selection of furniture that has been chosen to achieve that aim.
CARDIFF SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
Fundada en 1996, pero con raíces que se remontan a 1865, la
UWIC School of Management de Cardiff es un centro líder en el
Reino Unido. Su método de trabajo, basado en el aprendizaje
intensivo y la investigación, la consolidan como un referente de
innovación.
CARDIFF SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
Founded in 1996, but with its roots stretching back to 1865, the
UWIC Cardiff School of Management is a leading centre in the United Kingdom. Its teaching method, based on intensive learning and
research, consolidate the School as an exemplar of innovation.
Para su renovada sede, diseñada por Austin-Smith: Lord architects,
han proyectado un espectacular edificio de 7.800 m2 distribuidos
en 4 plantas. El objetivo ha sido desarrollar un espacio donde
cumplir la misión de la escuela: ofrecer un enfoque centrado en el
alumnado para crear una verdadera comunidad de estudiantes.
Para ello es fundamental contar con un idóneo ambiente de estudio. Dicha excelencia y calidad se reflejan, sin duda, en el nuevo
edificio.
The wonderful new building, designed by Austin-Smith: Lord architects, is 7,800 m2, distributed over 4 floors. The aim has been to develop a space to meet the school’s mission: to provide a student-centered approach to create a true community of students. It is therefore
essential to have an ideal study environment. This excellence and
quality are reflected, no doubt, in the new building.
Sancal ha colaborado con Momentum en el proyecto de amueblamiento. Las butacas Ártica y el sofá modular Moon, ambos
diseñados por Rafa García, encajan a la perfección en los espacios
sociales y proporcionan el relax necesario en las reuniones informales.
Sancal has worked with Momentum on the furnishing project. The
Artica chairs and the Moon modular sofa - both designed by Rafa
Garcia - fit perfectly into the social spaces and provide the relaxed
atmosphere required for informal meetings.

Fue un placer para nosotros recibir en Sancal la visita de Manuel
Lecuona, catedrático en Gestión del Diseño de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, y sus alumnos del Master de Hábitat el pasado
mes de marzo. Rafa García les acompañó en su ruta por nuestras
instalaciones y les explicó cómo trabajamos en Sancal.

It was a pleasure for us to receive at Sancal the visit of Manuel Lecuona, Professor in Design Management from the Polytechnic University
of Valencia, and his students in the Master of Habitat, last month of
March. Rafa García accompanied them on their way to our facilities
and explained how we work in Sancal.

DEBATE SOBRE INNOVACIÓN
WHAT TO DO_
Bajo el título What to do. Innovación en el hábitat, el Auditorio
Víctor Villegas de Murcia reunió el pasado jueves 17 de Marzo a
todo un equipo de expertos en hábitat, arquitectura, interiorismo,
diseño y nuevas tendencias en los sectores del mueble, la madera
y el mármol.
Organizada por la Consejería de Universidades, Empresa e Investigación, esta jornada analizó las oportunidades de negocio de
estos sectores y mostró las ventajas de fomentar la cooperación
empresarial y la consolidación de alianzas estratégicas entre clusters para acceder a los mercados internacionales.
Sancal participó en la mesa redonda sobre proyectos de contract.
Pedro Rentero, nuestro Export Manager, tuvo la oportunidad de
interactuar con público y ponentes y de intercambiar experiencias
entorno a innovación y sostenibilidad.
Cada una de los espacios de trabajo fue amueblado con producto
de las distintas empresas participantes; las butacas Tea de José
Manuel Ferrero y las mesas Rock de Rafa García propiciaron un
ambiente de lo más acogedor para la ocasión.
DEBATE ON INNOVATION
Under the heading ‘What to do. Innovation in habitat’, the Auditorium
Victor Villegas of Murcia met, last Thursday 17th March, a whole team
of experts in housing, architecture, interior design and new trends in
the sectors of furniture, wood and marble.
Organized by the Ministry of Universities, Company and Research, this
event looked at business opportunities in these sectors and showed
the advantages of promoting business cooperation and consolidation of strategic alliances between clusters to access international
markets.
Sancal participated in the roundtable on contract projects. Pedro
Rentero, our Export Manager, had the opportunity to interact with the
audience and other speakers and share experiences about innovation
and sustainability.
Each of the workspaces was furnished with products from the different participant companies, the Tea small armchairs by José Manuel
Ferrero and Rock tables by Rafa García led to a most welcoming
atmosphere for the occasion.

Ha sido una grata experiencia trabajar con Apartamento Magazine. Nacho Alegre y Omar Sosa, directores de la alternativa revista,
reivindican un punto de vista más cercano para conocer los espacios interiores y a las personas que los habitan. Apartamento es
editada en Barcelona pero su difusión es internacional.

unas peculiares entrevistas con los responsables de la dirección
artística de algunas de las editoras de diseño más significativas de

It was a great experience working with Apartmento Magazine.
Nacho Alegre and Omar Sosa, directors of the alternative magazine,
claim a closer view to know the interior spaces and people that inhabit them. Apartmento is published in Barcelona, but its distribution is
international.The issue 07 includes the supplement “Oficio y Criterio”,
which includes some special interviews with those responsible for
the artistic direction of some of the most significant design creators

Las ruinas de Detroit
A principios del siglo XX, gracias a la industria del automóvil liderada por Henry
Ford, Detroit fue una de las ciudades más
prósperas de América, pero poco queda
ya queda de aquella época dorada. Yves
Marchand y Romain Meffre nos muestran el declive de la ciudad a través de
sobrecogedoras imágenes. Durante más
de cinco años han fotografiado las ruinas
de la industria y ahora las recopilan en
esta más que recomendable publicación.
The ruins of Detroit
In the early twentieth century, thanks to
the automobile industry led by Henry Ford,
Detroit was one of the most prosperous
cities in America, but little is now left from
that golden era. Yves Marchand and
Romain Meffre show us the decline of
the city through breathtaking images. For
more than five years they have photographed the ruins of industry and have now
collected them in this highly recommended
publication.
Ori Gersht: Falling Petals
Fotógrafo nacido en Tel Aviv afincado
en Londres presenta su exposición de
fotografía más reciente en la CRG Gallery
de Nueva York. Falling Petals da nombre
a una serie de imágenes tomadas por
Ori Gersht durante Abril y Mayo de 2010
en Japón en las ciudades que se vieron
afectadas por la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Examina los cerezos en flor como
símbolos de la vida y la muerte, compara
aquellos plantados antes de la guerra en
áreas no afectadas con aquellos plantados en Hiroshima.
Ori Gersht: Falling Petals
Born in Tel Aviv, this photographer living in
London presents his latest photo exhibition at CRG Gallery in New York. Falling
Petals is the name after a series of images
taken by Ori Gersht during April and May
2010 in Japan in the cities that were affected by the Second World War. He examines
the cherry blossoms as symbols of life and
death; he compares those planted before
the war in areas not affected to those planted in Hiroshima.

Ahora que tenemos un auténtico Baby
Boom en la oficina, somos más sensibles
a lugares como Bob & Blossom. Esta
diminuta tienda en el East End de Londres es un oasis en medio del desierto
de los productos infantiles. Abierta sólo
los domingos por la mañana, lo ideal
es dar un paseo por Columbia Road e
ir parando en los coloridos puestos del
Sunday Flower Market. Recomendamos
en especial la colección de muñecos de
trapo. Por la tarde proponemos continuar paseando por Broadway Market y
recorrer el Regent’s Canal.
Bob & Blossom
Now that we have a real baby boom in the
office, we are more sensitive to places like
Bob & Blossom. This tiny shop in the East
End of London is an oasis in the desert of
children’s products. Open only on Sunday
morning, ideally for a walk to Columbia
Road and stop at the colorful stalls of
the Sunday Flower Market. We especially
recommend the collection of rag dolls. In
the afternoon we plan to continue walking
around Broadway Market and tour the
Regent’s Canal.
