From the Executive Director…
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! We hope that everyone enjoyed their summer break and
you’re ready to embark on another successful school year. This promises
to be an exciting year. The CDCPS network continues to grow as we add
the Upper Schools to Gateway and Webster, including extracurricular
activities like basketball, ultimate Frisbee, and outdoor adventure club. We
also are opening our new Webster location at 439 S. Union Street giving
our schools more room as they continue to grow.
We are not just growing our facilities and programs. As our network of
schools expand, we are working to build a central team to ensure that all
our schools continue to maintain the high standards we established. To
solidify that work, we transitioned Mary Chance into the role of deputy
executive director for academics; Pat Teichman into the supervisor for
early learning; and Brent Merten into the deputy executive director for
operations. This group has more than 45 years of experience at CDCPS
and they are already hard at work with the wonderful administrators and
teachers at all our schools getting ready for the 2016-17 school year.
Lastly, I want to thank our parents for partnering with us in their

Queridos padres ,
¡Bienvenido de nuevo! Esperamos que todos hayan disfrutado de sus
vacaciones de verano y ya estén listos para embarcarse en un año escolar
exitoso. Este año promete ser un año emocionante. La red de CDCPS
continúa creciendo a medida que añadimos las Escuelas Intermedias de
Gateway y Webster, incluyendo actividades extracurriculares como el
baloncesto, el Frisbee, y el club de aventura al aire libre. También estamos
abriendo nuestra nueva ubicación de Webster en 439 S. Union Street
dando nuestras escuelas más espacio a medida que continúan creciendo.
No sólo estamos creciendo nuestras instalaciones y programas. A medida
que nuestra red de escuelas expanda, estamos trabajando para construir

Technology Updates ...
It is with great excitement that I welcome
you back for our 2016-2017 academic
school year. I sincerely hope the summer
was filled with reading, relaxation, and
rejuvenation prior to beginning the next
journey for your child’s academic career.
The summer was filled with exciting work
to continue to prepare our staff for the
first day of school, to prepare our
buildings for your children, and to
continue the tradition of excellence in
education we have fostered with you as
partners.
As part of this preparation, I wanted to
relay that as we begin classes in late
August, we will be working to integrate
technology more in the classroom. The
Department of Education announced they
SUMMER 2016
will be phasing in computer-based end of
the year testing for MCAS 2.0 (an
updated version of our previous MCAS
testing given annually by the state) for all
schools and grade levels to be taking a
computer-based assessments by 2019. In
order to work toward this goal, this year
the state will require all grade four and all
grade eight students to participate in
testing on the computer for mathematics
and English language arts.
We are excited to begin working with
our curriculum, our infrastructure, and
our technology to develop even more
ways to utilize technology in the
classroom. We will be working closely
with our IT team, school leaders, and
teachers to introduce ways of more
practice for use of Chromebooks and
other technology for activities, learning
tasks, projects, presentations, and
assessment items. For us, the major goal
is giving our students more experience
and tools with technology as we look to
prepare them for high school. Indeed,
each year we are seeking ways to push
our students to GO BEYOND!

We are excited to welcome you back for
the 2016-17 school year! It is hard to
believe summer is coming to an end and
the start of our next year together is just
around the corner. We would like to
officially welcome our new Prospect
families, as well as welcome our 2nd
graders to the Lower School and 5th
graders to the Upper School!
We had a very productive and successful
summer filled with outstanding learning
opportunities for our summer program
participants. Thank you to those who
participated in the Lower School Summer
Program, Upper School Summer
Program, and Community Strings
Summer Program for your partnership in
ensuring your student was present and
ready to learn each day.
As we kick off the new school year, we’d like to take a quick look back to congratulate all our 2015-16 8th grade
graduates. The graduation ceremonies brought together graduates, families, teachers, administrators and other
supporters to celebrate and bid a fond farewell to the 43 students in the class of 2016. We are excited to see what the
future holds for these young women and men as they head off to continue their educational careers at the following high
schools this fall: Abbott Lawrence Academy; Academia Santa Rosa de Lima High School; Austin Preparatory School;
Central Catholic High School; Effingham College & Career Academy; Greater Lawrence Technical School; Kent School;
Mountainview High School; Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School; Pingree School; Presentation of Mary Academy; St.
Johns Preparatory School, and the Governor's Academy.

Actualizaciones de la
Tecnología...
Es con gran emoción que le doy la
bienvenida a nuestro año académico 2016
-2017. Espero sinceramente que el
verano estuvo lleno con la lectura, la
relajación y el rejuvenecimiento antes de
comenzar el siguiente recorrido por la
carrera académica de su hijo. El verano se
lleno de excitante trabajo para seguir
preparando nuestro equipo para el
primer día de clases, para preparar
nuestros edificios para sus hijos, y para
continuar con la tradición de excelencia
en la educación que hemos fomentado

con usted como socios.
Como parte de esta preparación, quería
transmitir que al comenzar las clases a
finales de Agosto, estaremos trabajando
para integrar mas tecnología en el aula. El
Departamento de Educación anunció que
estarán en proceso de introducir pruebas
en computadoras para las pruebas de fin
de año para el MCAS 2.0 (una versión
actualizada de nuestras pruebas MCAS
anterior otorgado anualmente por el
Estado) para que todas las escuelas y
niveles escolares tomen unas evaluaciones
de computadora por el 2019. Con el fin
de trabajar en esta meta, este año el
estado requerirá que los estudiantes de
cuatro grado y octavo grado participen en
las pruebas en la computadora para las
matemáticas y artes del lenguaje inglés.
Estamos muy contentos de comenzar a
trabajar con nuestro plan de estudios,
nuestra infraestructura y nuestra
tecnología para desarrollar aún más
maneras de utilizar la tecnología en el
aula. Vamos a trabajar estrechamente con
nuestro equipo informático, los líderes
escolares y maestros para introducir

annual Open House to provide an
opportunity for you to come and talk
with your student’s teachers will be held
on Thursday, September 1 at 5 p.m. at
the Prospect Lower and Upper Schools.
We also would like to invite you to our
Annual Family Picnic at Rolling Ridge on
Thursday, September 8 at 5 p.m.
We hope you all have had a restful and
enjoyable summer and look forward to

On behalf of the staff at the CDCPSProspect Early Learning Center, I am
delighted to welcome you to the 2016-17
school year! We had a very productive
summer full of learning and preparations
for the new school year. During the
summer school session, students worked
on literacy and math skills while attending
educational programs at the Lawrence
Public Library. Staff is attending numerous
workshops and trainings during our three
week orientation in August, and they are
excited to become acquainted with their
new students and their families.
We look forward to a productive
partnership with you to ensure that our
children can achieve their highest
potential. We recognize that in order to
be successful in school, our children need
support from both the home and school.
At CDCPS, we value your presence
during all school events and hope to
provide a variety of opportunities to help
us connect with your child and family.
Our Open House is taking place on
Tuesday, August 16 at 4:30 pm. During
this time, you can meet your child’s
teachers, ask questions, and learn about
grade level expectations. In addition, we
look forward to seeing you at our school
picnic at Rolling Ridge on Thursday,
September 8. Mark your calendars!

Hemos tenido un verano muy productivo

blacksmithing at the Lawrence History

Lawrence! Richard Wright of the
Granite State Hammer Alliance will be
demonstrating the craft of traditional
blacksmithing methods, forging both
iron and mild steel to create items for

The Spicket River Cleanup provides an
