In our days kings are part of the past; very few real kings are left in our world. Countries like England, Spain still today have a monarchy. Our idea of monarchies may be like the movies, jewels, riches, castles, servants and all the glamour of a king or queen. The reign of Jesus Christ is like no other kingdom in the world. He teaches us that whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be great must serve (Mt. 20:26). Jesus is king when He is most vulnerable. His kingdom is presented in all splendor when He is raised on the throne of the Cross. There his throne is the hard wood; his crown is not of jewels or gold but of thorns and pain. Our crucified King invites us to share with Him his eternal kingdom which will have no end. His kingdom begins in our hearts. He reigns when we allow Him to guide us to be merciful. As we conclude the Jubilee year of Mercy may we continue to live the Gospel of Mercy. Jesus is our Sovereign King; allow Him to reign in your hearts. Long live Christ the King! 31O Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario (Ciclo C) Cristo, nuestro Rey Reflexión Dominical del P. Luis El último domingo de cada año litúrgico la Iglesia celebra la Solemnidad de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo, o Cristo Rey. En nuestras días los reyes y reinos son cosa del pasado. Quedan algunas monarquías en países como Inglaterra y España. Nuestra idea de la monarquía puede ser como se presenta en las películas: joyas, riquezas, castillos, sirvientes y todo el glamor de ser rey o reina. El reino de Jesucristo no es como ningún reino de este mundo. Él nos enseña que el que quiera ser el primero ha de ser servidor de todos; el que quiera ser grande debe estar dispuesto a servir (Mt. 20, 26). Jesús es rey cuando es más vulnerable. Su reino se presenta en todo su esplendor cuando es levantado sobre el trono de la Cruz. Aquí su trono es de madera dura; su corona no es de oro ni de joyas, sino de espinas y dolor. Nuestro Rey crucificado nos invita a participar con Él en su reino eterno que no tendrá fin. Su reino empieza en nuestro corazón. Jesús reina cuando le permitimos guiarnos a ser misericordiosos. Al concluir este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia, continuemos viviendo el Evangelio de la Misericordia. Jesús es nuestro Rey y Soberano; permítanle que reine en sus corazones. ¡Viva Cristo Rey! Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925 with his encyclical Quas Primas, in response to growing nationalism and secularism, recognizing that these societal ills would breed increasing hostility against the Church. At the time, regimes in Mexico, Russia and many parts of Europe threatened not just the Church but civilization itself. The Pope’s encyclical gave Catholics hope and assurance while governments around them crumbled, and continues to remind us that while governments and philosophies come and go, Christ reigns as King forever. In recent years, aggressive secularist campaigns that lead to alienation and loss of solidarity have sought to marginalize the Church and religious institutions. In the face of these attacks, let us turn again to Christ our King and work to establish His kingdom of justice, love and peace. Let us acknowledge Christ’s kingship by dedicating ourselves to prayer, performing humble acts of service and bringing healing to a broken world. El Reinado de Cristo Al finalizar el año litúrgico, la Iglesia celebra la Solemnidad de Jesucristo, Rey del Universo, Cristo nuestro Rey. El Papa Pío XI instituyó esta fiesta en 1925 mediante su encíclica Quas Primas, como respuesta a un creciente nacionalismo y secularismo, y en reconocimiento a que estos males de la sociedad alimentarían una creciente hostilidad contra la Iglesia. En aquella época diversos regímenes en México, Rusia y muchas partes de Europa amenazaban no sólo a la Iglesia sino a la civilización misma. Esta encíclica dio a los católicos esperanza y seguridad mientras los gobiernos se derrumbaban a su alrededor. Las palabras de Pío XI siguen recordándonos que los gobiernos y filosofías van y vienen, pero Jesucristo reina como Rey por siempre. En años recientes, muchas campañas agresivas y secularistas buscan marginar a la Iglesia y a las instituciones religiosas fomentando sentimientos de alienación y pérdida de solidaridad. Frente a estos ataques, volvámonos de nuevo a Cristo nuestro Rey, y trabajemos por establecer en todo el mundo Su reino de justicia, de amor y de paz. Andrew was a Vietnamese diocesan priest who came from a poor, nonChristian family and was taught by a Christian lay catechist. . He was imprisoned, tortured and finally beheaded during the persecutions of Minh-Meng, between 1820 and 1840. HUGH SCHOOL Virtue of the Month: Justice Justice is the moral virtue that consists in the constant and firm will to give their due to God and neighbor. Justice toward God is called the "virtue of religion." Justice toward men disposes one to respect the rights of each and to establish in human relationships the harmony that promotes equity with regard to persons and to the common good. The just man, often mentioned in the Sacred Scriptures, is distinguished by habitual right thinking and the uprightness of his conduct toward his neighbor.
