DE LUJO EN MIAMI
Manny Angelo Varas, presidente y CEO de MV Group, es discreto acerca de los detalles de los proyectos que desarrolla para sus clientes, entre los que
cuenta con una amplia lista de celebridades. Su compañía se encargó de la renovación de la mansión de $14 millones del rapero Lil Wayne, al igual que
del diseño de la casa del productor de cine Michael Bay, de la película Pain & Gain, y la lista se extiende a la residencia del cantante Cristian Castro.
MV Group es una compañía de diseño, construcción y manejo de proyectos que ofrece soluciones residenciales y comerciales. En la actualidad,
además, adelanta la construcción de la oficina corporativa de One Media Group, propiedad del productor de películas como Bella, en Biscayne Boulevard, un proyecto del que describe ciertos detalles, como paredes electrónicas y arte exhibido a través de videos, que suma una obra de $2.5 millones
en construcción.
“La mayoría de los edificios de lujo se entregan hoy en día en la etapa que se llama designer ready’’, explicó Varas. Significa que la obra se entrega sin
acabados y los compradores eligen la cocina de su gusto, los baños, los closets, los pisos y todos los detalles del interior. Es ahí donde MV Group entra
a desarrollar una de sus especialidades.
Durante el último año, MV Group ha adquirido contratos en diferentes condominios de lujo para realizar obras en aproximadamente 900,000 pies
cuadrados y con aproximadamente $300 millones en el mercado de bienes raíces. A la construcción de un edificio de tres pisos en el Design District,
se suma la construcción interior de residencias en St. Regis, Bal Harbour; Santa Maria, Paramount Bay y en el recién inaugurado Brickell House, un
condominio de 40 pisos y 368 unidades, que será uno de los primeros del sur de la Florida que implemente el uso de parqueo robótico. En este último,
MV Group tiene contratos para hacer la construcción y diseño interior de 100 apartamentos.
A los 25 años, Manny A. Varas empezó como contratista general. Desarrollaba proyectos de vivienda económica del gobierno, en Liberty City. “No
tenía oficina, iba a visitar a los clientes. No tenía dinero para construir un website propio y pagaba para que incluyeran mi nombre en una lista de
especialistas que prestaban servicios de construcción en el área’’, recordó. Los servicios incluían desde cambiar el piso de una cocina hasta remodelar
un baño.
La compañía, posteriormente, entró a diseñar los apartamentos modelo en nuevos edificios de lujo. “Montaba una oficina provisional en el edificio
recién construido y tenía la oportunidad de ofrecer mi servicio a quienes compraban los apartamentos’’, mencionó. MV Group es una compañía que
Varas ha construido peldaño a peldaño. Hoy cuenta con 68 empleados, entre arquitectos, diseñadores y personal administrativo.

Some builders carve their legacy into the Miami skyline. Manny Angelo Varas leaves his
imprint on the interiors of those buildings, directly affecting how design influences people
in their daily lives. To date, his résumé lists involvement in designing nearly a million square
feet inside some of South Florida’s most prestigious properties: BrickellHouse, Indian Creek,
Fisher Island, Cocoplum and the St. Regis in Bal Harbour.
A decade ago, Varas was in the insurance business. At age 24, he ran one of Florida’s leading
flood insurance agencies, Professional Casualty Insurance. That was the same year Hispanic
Business Magazine named him one of the “Top 100 Entrepreneurs in the Nation.” It was also
the year President George W. Bush appointed him to the Presidential Business Commission.
Varas says he switched to his current career out of a love for buildings. Ever since 1993, when
he witnessed the implosion of the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas as a 13-year-old, Varas dreamed
of one day entering the field. He still dreams of building a luxury hotel.
His projects have included both commercial and residential spaces, for clients as wide-ranging
as public housing (Liberty City’s Liberty Square Apartments, his first project in 2005) and
celebrity estates. To break into the luxury condo market, Varas offered his services for free at
the Terra Beachside Villas in Miami Beach. Once the developer saw the results, he hired Varas
to design 115 out of the building’s 117 apartments, Varas said. He also designs for individual
homeowners and has worked with celebrities including rapper Lil Wayne and Mexican pop
start Cristian Castro.
From Varas: “People have gotten engaged in my properties. People have gotten married in my
properties. In some small way, I feel that I am creating for years to come for people who live
in those units. Property and spaces transcend generations and decades.”

Palm Island Waterfront
Pinecrest Estate
A global financier and Palm Island resident has retained MV Group to
design/build his multimillion dollar renovation and ground-up addition to
his Bayfront abode.
Argentinian developer commissioned MV Group to build a brand new 6000
SF custom spec home. The home is located at 12030 SW 68 Avenue and
broke ground on August 1st.
