I AM THE GOOD
SHEPHERD, SAYS
THE LORD; I KNOW
MY SHEEP, AND
MINE KNOW ME.
My Dear People,
Estimados Feligreses;
Two weeks ago I had to tell you about a serious shortfall
of $80,000.00 for our parish. For any who missed it, the
details are available on our parish website. However, several people have stepped up with substantial donations
which total more than $27,000.00 to help with the cause.
While there is more that needs doing, I want to share this
encouraging news as well as thank you for all that you are
doing to help us through this time.
Also, a few parishioners have stepped up to begin cleaning the parish church on Mondays (3pm) and Fridays (5pm).
Anyone who would like to join them will be most welcome.
Besides helping out, working together is a great friendship
builder. Some of you may remember the “Altar and Rosary
Society” of times past. Perhaps it is time to renew this association.
Shortly, there will be more information about fundraising
for the parish, but what matters most is that we take this
situation, as with all other things, to prayer for guidance on
how we might personally respond with faith, hope, and love.
Fr. John
P. John

MEET NEW FRIENDS
FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, will be hosting REACH, a
New Evangelization Prayer Breakfast on Friday, May 10 at the Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill, PA.
FOCUS is a national outreach that invites college students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His
Church, inspiring and equipping them for a lifetime of Christ-centered evangelization, discipleship and friendships in which they lead others to do the same. FOCUS has teams of missionaries on 74 college campuses
across the nation.
REACH is an opportunity for local community members to gather in prayer and fellowship, to encounter Jesus
Christ in the Eucharist, to hear the words of inspirational speakers, and to learn more about how they can live
out the evangelical mission of the Church in their families, parishes, workplaces, and communities. The morning will begin with the Rosary at 6:30am, followed by Mass with Archbishop Chaput and Breakfast-Program

“THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR
THE NEW EVANGELIZATION”
This program will be offered in both Spanish and
English on April 27-28, beginning 9:30 a.m. Saturday and concluding Sunday following noon dinner.
As an important part of this Year of Faith, the invitation is to take a closer look at the whole concept of
the “New Evangelization.” It was Pope John Paul II
who first coined the concept in 1979 when he called
the Bishops in Latin America for a commitment to an
evangelization, new in its ardor, its methods and expression.
Program Presenter is Fr. Domingo Rodriguez, S.T., a
Missionary Servant of the Most Holy Trinity, a writer, speaker and retreat facilitator. Retreat will be held

Catching Up on More School News…
A Reminder that Spring is Around the Corner!
Last month, those who were able, enjoyed a taste of Spring at the renowned Philadelphia Flower Show. We are so happy to announce that
four students from the same family entered displays with the Junior
Garden Club – and all four won prizes in the Pressed Flower Division!
As you know, Great Britain was the theme of the Flower Show so the
Charles girls, Allyah in 8th grade, Abiana in 5th, Aryelle in 4th and Aihyonna in Kindergarten designed their flowers and plants in the image of
the Queen’s crown! Their clever idea carried out well the theme of the
entire show! Great job, girls – we are proud of you!
Mission School Efforts Allow SMT to Continue “Growing”!
Now that we are experiencing more spring-like weather with flowers and plants beginning to burst
with a beauty that truly relieves the heaviness of winter days, we are delighted to tell you that a
“spring-like” atmosphere of bursting good news about our school has dispelled the “doom and
gloom” of notions or attitudes that our school just wasn’t going to make it after the Blue Ribbon
Commission decisions were made.
We are among 14 truly fortunate schools to belong to the newly formed, well-constructed
and efficiently run Independence Mission Schools. Pastors, principals and other administrators have been meeting monthly to construct IMS Catholic schools that will be vibrant, alive,
educationally challenging, and affordable for families in our area. While many Catholic
schools in our nearby community are experiencing difficulty because of declining enrollment
(which often leads to cutting important programs), we are delighted to say that we have more
than doubled our original goal of 50 new students by registering over 80 new families and 108
new children! We are opening new classrooms in some of our grades to meet the needs
of those who have chosen to send their children to SMT…knowing they will receive a quality
Catholic education. It is unusual for us, this early in April, to have such positive numbers…
and we have another OPEN HOUSE scheduled for April 23rd, from 9 to 11 am!

Financial scholarships are being awarded to every family that joins our school family…thanks to the
efforts of numerous people who sought out donors and enrolled our children in programs that ensured some type of scholarship. The increased enrollment equates to greater revenue so that we can
maintain the programs we have now and be able to do even more in the years ahead – all as a Mission School. This will relieve the parish in the coming years of the expense of school salaries, utilities
and maintenance, making it easier to focus on other programs that will advance the mission of the
church.
We are aware that there is the need to raise an estimated $60,000 by June 30, since our last tuition
collection will be in April and salaries and utilities need to be paid through June. Our parishioners
and school families have always supported the parish school in the past, and the school has remained
solvent. Several parish and school bills that accrued over the past few years went unpaid and needed to be cleared now – and this caused the deficit. With our pastor, we ask that you consider making
a one-time or monthly donation to help raise the necessary funds, realizing, we hope, that as a specific benefactor to our school and parish, you will be remembered daily in the prayers of our students, faculty and staff. We thank you, in advance, for your support! God bless you!
