Part showman, part educator, and part community goodwill ambassador, Kirk is doing everything he can to move a change-resistant art form into the 21st Century. At a time when Symphony Orchestras are worried about replacing their graying audiences, Kirk has created a talent competition that gives children of all ages the opportunity to perform a solo at every concert the symphony performs during the year. Another unique attempt to encourage audience participation, Kirk utilizes a specially designed dance floor, and actually encourages audience members to dance during performances by the symphony’s youth orchestra, and a swing band, at NISO’s popular pops concerts. Kirk has come a long way from his hometown of Crows Nest Pass in Alberta, Canada, and we are fortunate to have him in Northwest Indiana! Congratulations, Maestro! CABELA’S HUMAN RESOURCE TEAM VISITS NW INDIANA: Cabela’s advance planning team visited with the Lakeshore Chamber for three days in February to arrange employee training for their new Hammond store, which will open later in 2007. Representatives from the Chamber, Purdue Calumet, Ivy Tech, Center for Workforce Innovations, Workforce Development, Empowerment Zone, Hammond’s Area Career Center, School City of Hammond, and representatives from the Mayor’s staff met with Cabela’s representatives To review training sites, as well as establish a local planning team for the approximately 400 jobs that will be created by the new retail establishment. Cabela’s expects over 4 Million customers will visit the Hammond retail store annually, with over 50% of those visitors traveling from over 200 miles! To learn more about this retail giant, and to view Career opportunities with Cabela’s, please visit their website at www.cabelas.com, and prepare yourself for an adventure with the World’s Foremost Outfitter! INDIANAPOLIS COLTS – SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!! Who would have thought that the Colts and the Bears would end up in the Superbowl when the NFL season began several months ago? While it was a match-up made in Heaven for Northwest Indiana, the Region football fans are clearly staunch supporters of The Chicago Bears. Win or Lose, the experience of the past several weeks has brought much pride to our community, and the memories will last a lifetime, albeit probably longer if you are a Colt Fan! ☺ Go Colts!!
