Estimados participantes,
Un año más “Bienvenidos” a esta edición del Circuito Hípico del Sol 2012. Os agradecemos vuestra fidelidad y os
deseamos que en nuestras instalaciones, y en un año de
Olimpiadas, os sirvan para poner a punto vuestros magníficos caballos, entrenéis a los potros con múltiples recorridos y tipos de pistas, y como no, os sirvan de experiencia,
y para mejorar vuestra propia monta.
La doma ha cambiado de escenario y de fechas, para que
también puedan disfrutar sus participantes y espectadores, de las mismas instalaciones que en salto. En cuanto
al enganche, un nuevo recorrido ha sido diseñado por
Christian Iselli, gracias a la colaboración de Vitaldent, donde pretendemos celebrar el Campeonato del Mundo o
de Europa, en un futuro próximo.
Este año, como iréis comprobando hemos hecho, muchas mejoras, “eliminando Barreras” que encorsetaban su
desarrollo y haciendo el ambiente aun mas cálido. Se ha
rediseñado la distribución de ciertas instalaciones y servicios y hemos puesto señalizaciones para hacerlo más fácil.
Podemos presumir de tener las mejores pistas verdes, con
el asesoramiento permanente de Michel Poncelet y como
no, las ya conocidas pistas de arena, las cuales hemos
cuidado y mejorado, al igual que los obstáculos donde no
solo se ha velado por su belleza, sino por la seguridad de
jinetes y caballos.
Yo personalmente, tengo el orgullo de presentaros, para
los que no la conozcan, a mi hija Teresa, que con su gran
experiencia y dedicación, está dirigiendo y va a dirigir este
barco, “donde nadie saltará al agua”, y que acompañada de
Maite Abascal, Armando Trapote, y como no, de Cabello,
Francis, Herminia, Juan Ramos, Juan “El Sonaja”, y muchos
otros, harán posible que pasemos unos días inolvidables y
hagamos que nuestras competiciones, aunque nos hayan
supuesto, un esfuerzo económico y administrativo importante, sigan acreditándose y mereciendo la confianza del
Mundo Hípico.
El Meeting Point ha sido redecorado para ofrecer un área
de descanso, juego y comida con zona de Wi-Fi. También
hemos cambiado de concesionario el restaurante Giardinetto, y los Kioscos, para asegurarnos que mejorarán el
servicio y calidad de años anteriores.
En este año, disfrutaremos en salto, de una mayor dotación de premios, cinco semanas de CSI3*, en el cual se
celebrarán tres GP que serán calificativos para los Juegos
Olímpicos 2012 de Londres, a la vez, se disputarán, doce
GP calificativos.
Daremos un homenaje durante la cuarta semana, al magnífico y legendario jinete David Broome, que fue el inspirador del Circuito Hípico del Sol, y nominaremos con su
nombre la pista de Grandes Premios. “¡Estáis todos invitados!”. Otra sorpresa será la presentación de las nuevas
pistas verdes “Green Revolution”, a la que todos podréis
asistir.
En fin, sin extendernos más, os deseamos que paséis unos
días inolvidables, disfrutando de Montenmedio, de esta región, y de Andalucía.
No dudéis en acudir a nuestro personal para cualquier
duda o necesidad que tengáis.

Dear Competitors,
Welcome once again to this year’s edition of the Sunshine
Tour. We would like to thank you for your loyalty and we
hope that, in this Olympic year, our facilities will enable you
to get your magnificent horses into prime condition, train
your foals in our many different rings and bridle paths, and
enable you yourselves to work on your riding skills.
The dates and location of the dressage events have been
changed, so that competitors and spectators can all enjoy the same facilities as the jumping events. Thanks to the
collaboration of Vitaldent, a new driving course has been
designed by Christian Iselli, in which we hope to hold the
European or World Championships in the near future.
As you will see, we have made a great many improvements this year, such as creating an even more welcoming
atmosphere. The layout of some of our facilities and services has been redesigned and we have set up new signage
to make things clearer. We are proud in the knowledge
that we possess the best grass arenas, on the advice of our
permanent advisor, Michel Poncelet.
We are also proud of the sand arenas with which you are
already familiar, and which we have cared for and improved, and the jumps, which bear in mind not only aesthetics,
but also the safety of both horses and riders.
I am personally very proud to introduce my daughter Teresa
to those of you who don’t already know her. She is using her
great experience and dedication to run this ship, now and
in the future. And nobody will be abandoning ship; she will
be accompanied by Maite Abascal, Armando Trapote and, of
course, by Cabello, Francis, Herminia, Juan Ramos, Juan “El
Sonaja”, and many others who help us spend such memorable times here, and who ensure that, although they have
been a considerable financial and administrative effort, our
competitions continue to be worthy of the Horse World’s
trust.
The Meeting Point has been redecorated to provide a
rest, play and eating area with a Wi-Fi zone. We have also
changed the concessionaires of the Giardinetto restaurant
and the drinks kiosks, to ensure even better quality and
service.
This year, we will be able to enjoy a larger number of prize
jumping events: five weeks of CSI3*, in which three Grand
Prix competitions will be held that will serve to qualify for
the 2012 Olympic Games in London, along with twelve
other GP qualifying competitions.
During the fourth week of the event, we will be paying
tribute to the magnificent and legendary horseman, David
Broome, who inspired the Sunshine Tour, and we shall be
christening the Prize Ring in his name. And you are all
cordially invited! Another surprise is also in store, with the
inauguration of the new Green Revolution grass arenas,
which you are all invited to attend.
I hope you all have an unforgettable time at Montenmedio,
and here in Andalusia.

The History of the Sunshine Tour
En Octubre de 1993 se reunen en la
Real Federación Hípica Española, el
Presidente D. Carlos Cebría y el entrenador nacional David Broome. El
problema era que no había muchos
binomios nacionales capaces de competir internacionalmente y era importante mejorar y aumentar el número
de competiciones internacionales en
nuestro país.
Los reunidos se preguntaban como
convencer a alguien para que se aventurara a crear una organización que
fuese capaz de atraer a los jinetes
extranjeros de grandes premios y/o
de Campeonatos del Mundo, Olimpiadas,…etc., para crear una competición que atrajera a la elite mundial
y así entrenar y hacer competir en
igualdad de oportunidades a nuestros
jinetes.

Decidieron convencer a Antonio Blázquez a iniciar esta aventura, que según

poca experiencia internacional, sin tener que desplazarse fuera de España
por su elevadísimo coste.
Sirviendo además dichas pruebas
como lugar de entrenamiento para los
mejores jinetes europeos y de medio
Mundo que así evitarían pasar el terrorífico invierno europeo del Norte,
haciéndolo en un lugar más cálido.
Tras una corta conversación, Blázquez
decide que empieza a preparar un
Circuito de Invierno en varias poblaciones del Sur, entre ellos Sotogrande, Marbella, Montenmedio y Jerez, y
aceptó el reto corriendo con todos
los gastos, organización, instalaciones,
donde no fueron pocas las dificultades que hubo que superar, para poder celebrar los primeros concursos.
En invierno de 1994 la participación
fue de 175 caballos.

Pronto nos dimos cuenta que los jinetes preferían que Montenmedio
albergara la totalidad de las pruebas
del Circuito.
Hemos ido realizando los cambios y
las obras necesarias para dar calidad
y comodidad a la clientela nacional e
internacional, mejorando nuestras instalaciones y pistas cada año.
18 años después participarán en
Montenmedio 1.300 caballos y unos
400 jinetes.
Todo el conjunto de cosas que conforman a Montenmedio, ofrecen las
mejores condiciones para caballos y
jinetes. Todo esto, nos ha convertido
en el único lugar capaz de albergar a
este gran número de caballos en todas las disciplinas hípicas.

The History of the Sunshine Tour
In October 1993, at the Real Federación Hípica Española, its Chairman,
Carlos Cebría, met national trainer
David Broome. The problem at that
time was that there weren’t many
national horses and riders capable of
competing at an international level,
and it was important to improve and
increase the number of international
competitions in Spain.
The two men wondered if they could
convince someone to rise to the challenge of setting up an organization
that would appeal to foreign riders
competing in major prize events,
World Championships, the Olympic
Games and so on, and creating a competition that would draw the world’s
elite, eanbling Spanish riders to train
and compete on an equal footing.
The competitions would also
serve as a training arena for
the best riders of the world
who would be able to get
away from the dreadful Northern European Winter
They decided to persuade Antonio
Blázquez to embark upon this venture.
According to David Broome, it would
serve to train young horses, and horses and riders with little international
experience, without them having to
leave Spain, thus avoiding the huge
costs that are involved. The competitions would also serve as a training
arena for the best European riders,
as well as those from other parts of
the world, who would be able to get
away from the dreadful Northern European winter and train somewhere
warmer.
After a brief conversation, Blázquez
decided to begin preparing a Winter Circuit in a number of towns in
southern Spain that would include
Sotogrande, Marbella, Montenmedio
and Jerez. He accepted the challenge, and undertook to cover all the
costs of organization and facilities, and
overcoming the numerous difficulties
involved before the first competitions
were able to be held.

Very soon, we realized that riders
preferred all the Circuit’s events to
be held at Montenmedio. We have
gradually made alterations and had
building work done so as to provide
our Spanish and international clientele with a high standard of quality and
comfort, and we have made improvements to our facilities and arenas
every year.
Eighteen years after it first opened,
1,300 horses and some 400 riders
will be competing at Montenmedio.

for both horses and riders. We are
the only place able to accommodate
a large number of horses, in all disciplines of riding.

Queremos seguir mejorando, y este
año como habréis podido observar,
los que hayáis venido anteriormente,
hemos mejorado muchas de nuestras
instalaciones, todo está limpio y ordenado, y no existen “ningunas barreras”
que dificulten el normal desarrollo de
unos concursos, que han sido especialmente pensados y diseñados para
ser disfrutados por sus asistentes y
donde el caballo es el Rey.

We want to continue to make improvements and, as those of you who
have been here before will have noticed, this year our facilities have been
greatly improved. Everything is clean
and tidy, there are no barriers to obstruct the proper running of competitions, and the competitions themselves have been specially devised and
designed to be enjoyed by the public
- with the horse as the king.

Nuestras pistas verdes de Bermuda y Ray-Grass con tratamiento
preventivo, fertilización especializada, pinchado, recebado, escarificado, y control de malas hierbas, gracias a Michel Poncelet y a
un equipo especializado de expertos, las han convertido en las
mejores del Mundo. Gracias a estas innovaciones, hemos podido
realizar un nuevo sistema de pistas verdes que hemos patentado
y denominado “Green Revolution”, que esperamos, tras las pruebas y análisis necesarios, comercializar internacionalmente.
Thanks to Michel Poncelet and a team of experts, our Bermuda and
Ray-Grass grass arenas have become the best in the world. They
have been given preventive treatments and specialised fertilization,
been spiked, sliced and top-dressed, and undergone weed control.
Thanks to these innovations, we have been able to create a new
system of grass arenas that we have patented with the name Green
Revolution. Once the necessary tests and analyses have been carried out, we hope to market them worldwide.
En nuestras instalaciones contamos con el recorrido de completo más extenso y bonito de España. Durante el año, organizamos
dos concursos internacionales de concurso completo y el Campeonato de España.
Tenemos record de participación y gracias a estas competiciones
los jinetes y amazonas de nuestro país pueden clasificarse para
competiciones internacionales como el Campeonato de Europa
y los Juegos Olímpicos.
Our facilities include the largest and most attractive eventing course
in Spain. Throughout the year we organize two international eventing competitions as well as the Spanish National Championship.
We have achieved a record number of competitors and, thanks to
these competitions, Spanish riders are able to qualify for international competitions such as the European Championship and the
Olympic Games.

18º Circuito Hípico del Sol
El Circuito Hípico del Sol es la competición hípica invernal más importante de Europa. Comprende las disciplinas de Salto
de Obstáculos y de Doma Clásica. Durante el presente año 2012
se va a celebrar la XVIII edición del Circuito Hípico del Sol de
Saltos y la XIV edición del Circuito del Sol de Doma. El Circuito
Hípico del Sol es conocido a nivel internacional como Sunshine
Tour.
The Sunshine Tour is Europe’s most important winter
equestrian competition, and it comprises both jumping and dressage. This year, we will be holding the 18th edition of the Sunshine
Tour Jumping event and the 14th edition of the Sunshine Tour
Dressage event. The original name of the competition in Spanish is
Circuito Hípico del Sol, although it is known internationally by its
English name, the Sunshine Tour.
Conviene destacar que este circuito es utilizado como preparación para el resto de competiciones de la temporada, ya que la
climatología favorable de la provincia de Cádiz propicia esta situación. A diferencia de ello, durante los meses de Febrero y Marzo,
en el Centro y Norte de Europa, el frío y la nieve obligan a los
jinetes a entrenar en picadero cubierto. Por ello, durante estas fechas, la Dehesa Montenmedio con sus magníficas instalaciones, se
convierte en el principal destino para los jinetes internacionales.
Due to the fine winter weather in Cadiz province, the
tour is used to train for the rest of the season’s competitions. In
Northern and Central Europe, the cold weather and snow means
that in February and March riders have to train in indoor arenas.
So at this time of year the magnificent facilities at Dehesa Montenmedio become the top destination for international riders.
En cuanto a los datos de participación tenemos un total de 1.300
caballos y 351 jinetes en Saltos, y 150 caballos y 82 jinetes en
Doma Clásica.
En el Circuito Hípico del Sol de Saltos encontramos a jinetes representantes de 46 países diferentes. Destaca la presencia de jinetes españoles y británicos que conjuntamente representan un
60% del total de jinetes. En concreto el 40% de españoles y casi un
20% de británicos. De ello se deduce la gran presencia de jinetes
internacionales en el Circuito del Sol de Saltos.
En cuanto a las pruebas, el programa del Circuito Hípico del Sol
de Saltos incluye 167 pruebas repartidas a lo largo de 5 semanas.
Desde la primera a la cuarta semana de concurso se suceden 33
pruebas semanales celebradas de martes a domingo. En la quinta
semana, tienen lugar 35 pruebas ya que se suceden diferentes
finales y se incluye el lunes como día de competición.
Los Martes, Miércoles y Jueves se suceden las pruebas de caballos
jóvenes de 5,6 y 7 años para culminar durante el fin de semana
con la celebración de las pruebas internacionales.
Muchas de las pruebas del Circuito del Sol de Saltos serán calificativas para los Campeonatos de Europa, así como para los Juegos
Olímpicos que se celebrará en Londres.
As regards competitor numbers, a total of 1,300 horses and 351
riders are registered in the jumping events, and 150 horses and 82
riders in dressage.
Riders from 46 different countries will be competing in the Sunshine Tour this year, in particular Spanish and British riders, who
together make up 60% of the total number (40% are Spanish, and
20% British). From this can be gathered the large number of international riders competing in the Sunshine Tour Jumping event.
The Sunshine Tour Jumping competition comprise 167 trials,
spread over five weeks. From the first to the fourth week of
the competition, 33 trials will be held every week, running
from Tuesday to Sunday. During the fifth week, 35 trials will
take place, including on Monday, as several consecutive finals
will be held.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the trials for 5, 6
and 7-year-old young horses will be held, culminating with
the international trials on the weekend.
Many of the Sunshine Tour jumping trials will serve for horses and riders to qualify for the European Championships
and the London Olympic Games.

Del 31 de Enero al 12 de Febrero
se disputó en nuestras instalaciones la XIV edición del Circuito del
Sol de Doma Clásica, destacando la
presencia de jinetes españoles y portugueses. Contamos también con la
participación de jinetes de 16 nacionalidades diferentes. Con lo cual, se
demuestra la gran importancia a nivel
internacional de este evento.
From 31st January to 12th February,
the 14th edition of the Sunshine Tour
Dressage Competition was held at
Dehesa Montenmedio, in which a large number of Spanish and Portuguese competitors took part.There were
also riders of 16 different nationalities, proving the major international
importance of this event.

Driving Competition
13th-15th April 2012
La Copa Ibérica es la competición internacional de Enganches más importante que
se celebra anualmente en España, es una competición ya
clásica en el calendario de la
disciplina de Enganches, tanto
de España como de Portugal,
países que se alternan en el
tiempo para albergar la Final.
Las categorías participantes
van desde las Limoneras (un
caballo) hasta las Cuartas
(cuatro caballos) pasando por
los Troncos (dos caballos).
Además contamos con la
presencia de ponis en las tres
categorías anteriormente citadas.
En esta competición se inscribieron en el año 2011, 33
cocheros y 97 caballos.
Participaron cocheros de 5
nacionalidades diferentes; dos
cocheros belgas, dieciséis cocheros españoles, una estadounidense, cinco franceses y
nueve portugueses.
La competición de enganches
se desarrolla durante tres
días en los que se suceden las
pruebas de doma el primer
día, maratón el segundo y la
manejabilidad el tercero para
finalizar la competición.
También organizamos el
Campeonato de España y el
de Andalucía.
The Copa Ibérica is the most
important international horse driving competition to be
held every year in Spain.
It is a classic competition on
the driving calendar in both
Spain and Portugal, which
take turns to host the Final.
The classes are Limoneras
(singles), Troncos (pairs) and
Cuartas (four-in-hand).
Ponies will also be competing
in the same three categories.
In last year’s competition, 33
drivers and 97 horses registered to compete, with drivers
of 5 different nationalities: two
Belgian, sixteen Spanish, one
American, five French and 9
Portuguese.
The driving competition will
be held over three days, with
dressage on the first day, marathon on the second and
obstacle cone driving on the
third, ending the competition.
We will also be organizing the
Spanish and Andalusian Driving Championships.
