Parish Ministry Fair 10/18-19
St. Thomas Parish will celebrate the Annual Parish Ministry Fair
on the weekend of October 18-19 in the Parish Hall following the
weekend Masses. This is a wonderful opportunity to become
involved in the ministries of the parish. All parish groups are
encouraged to staff a table with information about their ministry.

First Reconciliation Parent Meeting 10/27
St. Thomas will hold a meeting for the parents of the students
preparing to receive First Reconciliation this year on Monday,
October 27 at 7:00 PM in the Church building. All parents are
urged to attend.
Sympathy
St. Thomas Parish offers its sympathy to Debbie Drescher on the
death of her mother Patricia Bomar. May her soul, and the souls
of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in
peace.
Wed. College Student Mass and Dinner
St. Thomas Parish sponsors a special Wednesday evening Mass
and Dinner for college students each Wednesday while the
University of Montevallo is in session. The Mass is celebrated at
5:30 PM at the Campus Chapel on the corner of Highland and
Moody, and a dinner prepared by teams from the parish follows
immediately after Mass.

OLV Presentation on Parenting 10/16
The third presentation for the Fall season will be on Thursday,
Oct. 16th in Our Lady of the Valley Social Hall. This will be a
presentation by Dr. Dale Wisely on Parent-Child Relationships.
This is the second of a three part series on different areas that
affect marriages. We will start at 6:30 p.m. with a social
time (drinks & snacks) and the program will start at 7 p.m. and
goes to 8:30 p.m. Free babysitting is available in the Church
nursery.

Eucharistic Adoration
Come spend time with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration. 1st & 3rd
Friday of each month. Friday adoration begins at noon and ends

Ladies' Auxiliary 10/12
The next Ladies' Auxiliary meeting will be on Sunday, October
12 at 7:00PM in the St. Joseph room. All ladies of the parish
are invited and encouraged to attend our meetings.
World Mission Sunday 10/19
Christmas Adult Choir Rehearsal
The Adult Choir has began rehearsals on Wednesday, 7:15-8:30PM
in preparation for the 9:00 PM Christmas Eve liturgy. Are you
someone we’ve heard singing out there in the pews who hasn’t
tried choir? Please join us this year. We have fun while we work
hard; and we would love to meet you and sing with you. Welcome

Knights of Columbus Yard Sale 11/8
The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2574
will be holding a yard sale on Saturday November 8, 2014 in the St
Thomas parish hall. The sale will start a 8:00 am and run until 1:00
pm. If you have any items for donation to the yard sale, you can
contact Matthew Stitt at 205-664-1281 and/or bring them by the
church during normal business hours.
Diocesan Priests’ Retreat 10/13-16
The annual retreat for the priests of the Diocese of Birmingham
will be held on October 13-16 at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman.
Please pray for the priests of the Diocese.

Parish Stewardship Pledge Weekend 11/1-2
St. Thomas Parish will celebrate Parish Financial Stewardship
Weekend on the weekend of November 1-2. Pledge materials will
be mailed to all parishioners on October 22. We will offer our
financial pledges during the celebration of the Eucharist at all the
Masses that weekend. Please be generous.

With the advice of the Parish Finance Council, Saint Thomas Parish will do financial planning
according to a fiscal year (7/1/14 to 6/30/15) rather than a calendar year. Thus, the numbers above have been

K of C Squires Monthly Meeting 10/19
Squires Monthly Meeting: The third Sunday at 12:15 noon till
1:30pm. The next meeting will be on October 19, 2014 in the

Primetimers 10/14
For parishoners who are 50+. We meet 2nd Tuesdays from
September through May for Mass at 11am and lunch
afterwards. Primetimer Cooks provide the meal and if you would
like to cook or provide something for the meal each month,

Living Rosary 10/19
October is the Month of the Rosary. St. Thomas Youth
Faith Formation is honoring Jesus' dear Mother, Our
Blessed Mother Mary, by organizing a Living Rosary to be held
in the church courtyard at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, October
19, 2014. This is a beautiful prayer service which has
become a powerful and prayerful annual tradition here at
St. Thomas. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!

Pastoral Council Nominations by 10/20
St. Thomas Parish Pastoral Council Elections will be held on the
weekend of November 15-16. Nominations are now open. You
may nominate yourself or you may nominate another parishioner.
The deadline for nominations is Monday, October 20. For more

K of C Movie Night 10/17
K of C will host a movie night on Friday 17th of October 2014 at
7:00 PM. The movies to choose from will be “Racing Stripes,
“Mulan” or “Planes”. Popcorn and soft drinks will be served.

K of C Flag Retirement 11/15
The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2574
will be collecting old United States of America flags for a
retirement ceremony which will be held on November 15, 2014
after the 5:30 Mass. There will be a box placed in the gathering
area where you can drop the flags off. All parishioners are
welcome to participate in the ceremony.
Moms & Tots
We are an energetic group of mommies & children birth through
preschool. We have scheduled weekly activities. Newcomers are

Evening Scripture Study
The Wednesday evening study group has began and will meet in
the St. Joseph’s room. This session we will be studying the book
of Revelation using the book, The End by Dr. Scott Hahn. In this
dramatic Bible Study, Dr. Hahn demonstrates why this littlestudied book contains many of the keys to understanding the
Gospels. He explains that, for those students willing to examine the
historical background to the New Testament, the Book of
Revelation actually summarizes the central doctrines of Faith. The
cost of the study book is $15. All are invited to attend. Please call

Catholic Charities Thank You
Last weekend was the annual Catholic Charities Appeal for the
Diocese of Birmingham. The Catholic Charities Appeal funds the
programs and ministries of the Diocese. The goal for St. Thomas
Parish is $ 50,301.00. Thus far, we have received pledges from 76
parishioners in the amount of $25,110. Thank you for your pledge.
If you have not yet made your pledge for this appeal, please make
your pledge today.
Knights of Columbus Monthly Meeting 10/12
The K of C Council will hold their meeting on Oct. 12, 2014. The
meeting will start @ 7 pm in the modular building. These
meetings are open to all Knights in good standing. We will be
having our Assembly meetings for fourth degree Knights @ 6:pm
prior to the Council meetings.
Firearms Prohibited at St. Thomas
The State of Alabama has some new legislation with regard to the
carrying of firearms. In the law, churches have the option to
prohibit the possession of firearms in the church facility. With the
advice and consent of the Parish Pastoral Council, St. Thomas the
Apostle Church will post a security notice indicating that firearms
are prohibited at St. Thomas under the authority of Act 2013-283.

Educacion Religiosa En Español Para Adultos
Las clases para el programa de educacion religiosa en español
para adultos para el año de 2014-2015, va a ser los Domingos de
9:30am-10:45am. Los que esten interesados en recibir los
Sacramentos o los que tienen preguntas de sus Sacramentos, por

Los Ministerios Parroquiales
La parroquia de Santo Tomás celebrará el anual feria de
ministerios parroquiales el 18-19 Octubre después de cada misa.
Los feligreses tendrán la oportunidad de aprender sobre los
ministerios y programas de la parroquia, y la oportunidad de
apuntarse los ministerios y programas.
Platicas Prebautismales
Las platicas de los bautizos seran una ves por mes, también debe
de registrarse antes. Para más información por favor llamen a la
oficina al 663-3936. Los padrinos deben de vivir juntos y
estar casados por la Iglesia. Si viene de una otra Iglesia a tomar
las clases, debe traer una carta en que le da a usted permiso para
tomar las clases aquí en Santo Tomás y con la firma del Padre de
su Iglesia. Las platicas serán el 2 de Noviember a las 9:30am.
Clases para Quinceañeras
Todas las niñas de 14 años de edad que planean su
quinceañeras, necesitan tener las platicas antes de su Misa de los
15 años. Las clases son los Domingos a las 1:30 pm detrás de la
sala de coro en la iglesia. Las clases son dos veces al año, tienen
una duración de sólo seis semanas. Por favor tambien
comuniquese con la Sra. Mercedes al 205-413-3066.
Las clases son obligatorias.
Las Armas de Fuego Prohibidas en St. Tomás
El Estado de Alabama tiene alguna nueva legislación en relación
con el porte de armas de fuego. En la ley, las iglesias tienen la
opción de prohibir la posesión de armas de fuego en las
instalaciones de la iglesia. Con el consejo y consentimiento del
Consejo Pastoral Parroquial, la Iglesia Apóstol Santo Tomás
publicará un aviso de seguridad que indica que las armas de
fuego están prohibidas en Santo Tomás, bajo la autoridad de la
Ley 2013-283.
