Welcome Fr. Desy
We welcome Fr. Desmond (Desy) Daniels to the Christ
the Good Shepherd Community. Fr. Desy and I ministered
together in our previous parish, St. Luke the Evangelist. We
are both excited about the opportunity to share ministry
again. You will always find a beautiful smile on Fr. Desy’s
face… and his guitar not too far away.
Things are happening at CGS!
As you all can see, the old rectory has been demolished
leaving space for the future needs of our parish community.
I also want you to know that we have been in dialogue
with the owner of the 10.4 acres of land that is directly to
our south fronting onto Louetta. He is interested in selling
and we are interested in buying, if we can come up with a
good deal. Our present property, except for the space where
the old rectory was, is completely filled and we need space
to expand for the future of our parish. This is why we have
begun these conversations. If all of this works out, it will be
very exciting for our community and our future needs.
We continue to work on our Master Plan. Thank you to
everyone who took the time to fill out a survey. Those
surveys are being compiled, and we have begun
interviewing ministry leaders to get more information.
Our Finance Council has interviewed four capital
campaign companies and will soon choose one to help us
with a capital fundraising campaign. The first step will be a
feasibility study in order to estimate approximately how
much money our community will be able to raise. This will
help us prioritize what phases of work can be done and
when with our new Master Plan. From there we will be able
to begin our own capital campaign drive. WE ARE
MAKING PROGRESS!
Playground
All of the rain we are having has delayed the work on our
playground. We are hopeful that this will begin very soon.
Thank you to all who have donated to the playground fund.
As of this writing we have raised $56,299.31 toward a total
of $94,809.78; thank you.
ARISE
Coming This Fall! You may have seen the word ARISE
in our bulletin. ‘ARISE Together in Christ’ is a three-year
parish-centered process of spiritual renewal and
evangelization that enables people to deepen their faith,
develop a closer relationship with Christ, grow in
community, and reach out in service to others. It
emphasizes people living in good relationship with one
another, as they make concrete applications of the
gospel to their life situations. We will be inviting
people to have weekly meetings in their homes for six
weeks in the coming fall season. This will be a
GREAT opportunity to build community and get to
know others at CGS.

Damos la Bienvenida a P. Desmond (desy) Daniels a la
Comunidad Católica de Christ the Good Shepherd Comunidad.
El P. Desy y yo colaboramos juntos en nuestra parroquia anterior,
Saint Luke the Evangelist. Ambos estamos muy contentos de
tener la oportunidad de compartir ministerio de nuevo. Siempre

Como todos ustedes pueden ver, la antigua rectoría ha sido

dinero nuestra comunidad será capaz de recaudar. Esto nos
ayudará a priorizar qué fases de trabajo se puede hacer y cuando
con nuestro nuevo Plan Maestro. A partir de ahí podremos
comenzar nuestra propia campaña de capital. ¡ESTAMOS
PROGRESANDO!

Toda la lluvia que estamos teniendo ha retrasado el trabajo en
nuestro parque infantil de recreo. Estamos esperanzados que
este comenzará muy pronto. Gracias a todos los que han donado
al fondo del parque infantil. A partir de este escrito hemos

¡Próximamente este otoño! Puede haber visto la palabra
LEVANTARSE en nuestro boletín. ‘LEVÁNTESE Juntos en
Cristo’ es un proceso centrado en la parroquia de tres años de
renovación espiritual y evangelización que permite a la gente
profundizar su fe, desarrollar una relación más cercana con
Cristo, crecer en la comunidad y extender la mano en el servicio
a otros. Enfatiza a la gente que viva en una buena
relación el uno con el otro, ya que hacen aplicaciones
concretas del evangelio a sus situaciones de vida.
Invitaremos a la gente a tener reuniones semanales en
sus casas durante seis semanas en la próxima temporada
de otoño. Esto será una GRAN oportunidad de construir la
comunidad y llegar a conocer a otros en CGS.

Fr. James is offering a 9 day/7 night pilgrimage to Rome from Thursday, December 3,
through Friday, December 11, 2015. This pilgrimage is a part of a larger celebration
commemorating the 50th anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council and
coincides with the official opening of the Holy Doors for the beginning of the Jubilee Year of
Mercy, beginning on December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. For those who
are musicians or choir members, there is an opportunity to join in a “festival choir” that will
be singing at several major liturgical events throughout the pilgrimage. For those who are not
musicians/choir members, other activities will be planned. The overall itinerary includes
daily Mass, site seeing in Rome, the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s Basilica, attending the
Papal blessing on Sunday, December 6, attending Mass at St. Peter’s on Monday, December
7, visiting the major basilicas (St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the Walls,
a day trip to Assisi and Mass at the St. Francis Basilica, and more. The cost of the pilgrimage
is $3,823 and includes air fare economy class, ground transportation, US government taxes,
fees, fuel surcharges up to $600, entry fees, hotel accommodation based on double
occupancy, breakfast and dinner, and more. The fee excludes a single room supplement,
personal services including porterage and drinks, travel visa for non-U.S. passport holders,
transportation to and from the airport, daily lunches and drinks at dinners, airline luggage
fees, travel insurance (optional). Group tips are a total of $80. For more information go to:

Life Awareness
Weekend
July 24-26
Men and women between the ages of 18-45 who are searching and discerning God’s call in their lives are invited Holy
Name Retreat Center. Life Awareness is a weekend retreat of prayer, silent reflection, presentations, group discussions,
sharing on one-on-one encounters and guidance from priests and religious sisters and brothers, as you learn more about
priesthood and religious (consecrated) life. This retreat is designed to help young adults to learn and explore whatever
vocation God might be calling them. To search deeply for the guidance, and to grow in courage to do the will of God. It
will provide time, environment, and opportunity to clarify one’s calling without any pressure of commitment. Holy Name
Retreat center is located at 430 Bunker Hill Road, Houston, TX 77024. The retreat begins at 5 p.m. on Friay, July 24.
