Dear Marley Families:
I really can’t believe this school year is almost
over! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating
a new school year with our Back to School Bash and
welcoming our new kindergartners. We continued to
grow in numbers during this school year while also
building upon our vision of “I can and I will” by creating
a climate where every child is successful.
We are entering the last weeks of school, and there
are many wonderful learning activities planned for all
students. We have updated the website calendar with
the June events with the hopes of helping your family
adjust your schedules for end of the year activities.
As we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month and
Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10), I want to
express my thanks and gratitude for all that you do to
make Marley Elementary so special. Day in and day
out, our staff gives so much of themselves to our
students. We are truly appreciative of our parent
volunteers, and PTA as well.
With the change in the weather and the increase in
student activities after school, we are seeing some
overall changes in the students. Behavior is a little
looser, homework is being missed, and overall,
students appear to be ready for a summer break. The
teachers and I have talked with students, reminding
them that we are looking for their best behavior in the
classrooms, playground, bus, and all areas of their
school day. We expect all students to behave in a
respectful and safe manner. We are proud of them
and their accomplishments and encourage students to
finish out their school year doing their best! Thank you
for your continued
support. We look forward
to seeing you at one of the
upcoming events as the
school year comes to a
close.
Happy Spring,

As the year begins to wind down and summer
fast approaches, please review stranger
safety rules with your children. Also, please
make sure that they know a safe adult’s cell
phone number that they can reach at any
time.
May’s Core Value of the Month is Patience.
Patience is waiting until later for what you
want now.
We know that having patience can be
difficult, even for adults. Talk to your children
about ways you practice patience and what
it means to you. Share a time you had to be
patient and let your children share, too.

practicar paciencia.

The school year is drawing to an exciting close. The kindergarten team is so proud of all
the accomplishments that our students have made this school year. Every parent should discuss with their child how much they have learned this year and tell them how very proud they

3rd Grade News
We cannot believe that May is already here! There are many fun activities taking place at Marley during the 4 th
marking period, but there is still a lot of learning to be done.
Math
It is so important for students to master their multiplication facts before going to 4th grade. Learning 4th grade
skills will be much easier if students know their facts fluently. It is essential for students to practice each day in
order to achieve mastery. Below are a few ideas for students to practice with at home.
 Flash Cards – Students can create their own flash cards for only the facts that they need assistance learning.
 Around the World- Have a competition with siblings or friends. To see who can answer the facts the fastest
have two children begin. The first child to answer the fact correctly moves to the next station/child.

www.multiplication.com – This site has a ton of great multiplication games for students to choose from.
There are many other great sites for students to choose from.
 Multiplication BINGO – A template can be found online or students can create their own. Provide students
with the answers to the multiplication flash cards you will show them and let them arrange those numbers
randomly on their BINGO cards. Show your child one flash card at a time and have them find the product, or
answer, as quickly as possible.
Language Arts
Students will begin their unit on relationships this month. They will be involved in many relationships with family
members, friends, pets, and in texts. Students will read a variety of texts in this unit to help them become more
aware of the relationships they encounter in daily life. The novel students will use is a fictionalized account of
Winter, a rescued dolphin and the people who helped rehabilitate her. You can help your student’s understanding
by discussing with your child why relationships are so important.
Reminders
Please remind your child the importance of being safe at school. No footballs from home will be allowed at recess
to ensure students are being safe. If you are concerned about your child’s behavior or grades in school, please
contact his or her teacher.
Thank you for all of your support!

Happy May from 5th Grade!
The school year is coming to an end faster than we can imagine. With only a few weeks left
of Elementary School, we have some important announcements about upcoming events for
our 5th Grade students!
The much anticipated Drownproofing field trip is here! The dates that our 5th graders will
participate in the Drownproofing program are: May 2 nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th. The students will
need to come to school ready for the pool on these days. They will also need other items for
this fun and exciting field trip. Please look for a reminder in your child’s book bag.
Students will be completing work in the classroom to prepare for this trip. This work will
count toward your child’s forth marking period grades.
The 5th Grade Promotion will take place on June 14th at 9:30am. Please save this date in
your calendar, and look for more information to come home closer to this day. After
promotion, we will have a small reception for the 5th grade students and their families. If
you can donate drinks or desserts to this event, please let your child’s teacher know.
Finally, as the school year comes closer to ending, the students begin to get very excited and
behavior problems increase in school. Please reinforce appropriate school behavior with
your child to ensure their behavior stays on track for the last weeks of this school year. It is
also getting very warm outside, so please double check that your child has on school
appropriate attire.
As always, please let your child’s teacher know if there are any questions or concerns. Thank
you!
