From Fr. Michael Shanahan, our Pastor
Del Padre Michael Shanahan, nuestro Párroco
I find comfort in the Psalms of the Mass. They are a
source of strength and wisdom for us as we embrace
our mission in life. Today we sing “Lord, let your
mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.”
Here in the parish our mission is to “Seek Unity.
Celebrate Diversity by Praying, Caring and Sharing.” Psalm 33 gives us the words with which to
pray. The unity we seek is within the parish of
course, and extends well beyond its boundaries.
Ultimately the unity we seek is with God as the
source of goodness, light and wisdom. The unity we
strive for in the parish flows from our sense of unity
with God. To be sure we stand in need of God’s mercy
on this journey.
In the second reading, we are reminded that our
Lord Jesus was not above the weaknesses of human
nature. He knew them well. I won’t repeat the words
in this article so please refer to them in the misalette
which is available near the doors of the church.
Jesus knows what it is like to face down weakness
and sin. What a powerful gift we have in Jesus as we
embrace our journey toward Unity with God, with
fellow parishioners, with neighbors, with the weakest
among us, with ALL.
Last weekend we celebrated Diversity with the Pan
American Festival. May God bless all of you who
donated, cooked, served, counted, cleaned, danced and
sampled the wonderful cuisine from throughout the
world. I feel the Spirit at work as we surrender to the
mission that God has given us. This annual event was
well attended and was also a lot of fun. Thank you.
Today, Sunday, we celebrate at the 9:30 Mass with
our uniquely gifted young people in the Special Religious Education Program. God bless them and their
families. And God bless the wise and generous catechists who minister to our young people with unique
needs. We are blessed at Lourdes to have this ministry
We also are blessed by our many leaders who
embrace our parish mission. Leonor Teran has coordinated the Comite Hispano for many years and was
involved in several ministries before that. Cardinal
George has awarded Leonor Teran with the Cristifideles Award as a recognition and gratitude for her
Christian service in the parish. Leonor will receive this
award at a ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral on
Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2:30 p.m. More details to follow.
Thank you Leonor, may you profoundly know the
rewards of your goodness and dedication, as you also
mentor our new leaders into service. God Bless You!
mundo. Siento que el Espíritu trabaja cuando nos
sometemos a la misión dada por Dios. Este evento
anual tuvo mucha gente y mucha diversión. Gracias.
