Sunday Reflection
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
What an amazing weekend that we
just had. Last weekend, our
seminarian, our parishioner, one of
our very own, Luis Espinoza, was
ordained a priest. The last time that
we had a newly ordained from our parish was 38
years ago, Fr. James Persons 1978. This weekend
simply amazing and the power of the Holy Spirit
was present in our midst. Thank you Fr. Luis for
your yes in being a priest of Christ. As
administrator/pastor of the parish, I am so proud of
you. Know that you will always have a home at Our
Lady of Peace. Fr. Luis will begin his official
assignment on July 1st at St. Gregory the Great in
Whittier.
A special thank you to so many people for helping
put together the wonderful reception on Sunday for
Fr. Luis. Special thanks to Maribel Carrillo who
chaired the our reception committee and coordinated
our many volunteers and groups. Special thanks to
so many of the volunteers especially our ministries
who helped cook food, serve food, set-up and cleanup. Also, thanks to our liturgical team – beautiful
choir led by Erick and Coco, Custodiae Dominus
who served at the altar, our lectors, sacristans, altar
society, ushers and environment. And additional
thanks for the staff of the parish especially Deacon
Rey and Christine Hart for overseeing. And finally,
thanks to our MC for the evening, Fr. William,
who’s inner love for show business came out
profoundly.
And so now the question is… who is next? We are
blessed friends, with 4 seminarians: Edin Barrera,
Andrew Hedstrom, Patrick Ayala and our newest
one who will be entering St. John’s in the fall,
Miguel Godinez. Let us continue to pray for them.
At the same time, we also need more - more priests,
more religious, more deacons. On Saturday, June
18th, there is an event on Vocations for the whole
family. This is an opportunity for children 11 and up
and their parents to learn about vocations. It begins
at 8:30 until 3PM with food, holy mass, presentation
and more. All completely FREE. Please join us for
this great day here at OLP sponsored by our
seminarians and the Poor Claire Missionary Sisters.
Our Lady of Peace… pray for us.
A Maribel Carrillo, quien

DID YOU KNOW?
Praise is just as important as providing food and shelter for a child. Praise is an important
aspect of raising a confident child. When you praise a child, not only do you raise their selfesteem and self-concept but you increase their overall self-worth. One thing you can do is
focus on the child and describe what you see. For example, you can say: “You are so patient.
That means a lot to your little brother.” For more tips on praising children please email
[email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.
SABIA USTED?
MEAL OF THE MONTH
“Give to the hungry some of your food, and to the naked some of your clothing. Whatever you
have left over, give away as alms; and do not let your eye begrudge the alms that you give.”
Tobit 4:16
On Sunday, May 15, 2016, MOM members prepared and delivered 200 lunch plates to the residents in
need of Skid Row, OLP community and numerous job seekers around home improvement stores of the
San Fernando Valley.
The lunches were co-sponsored by Mrs. Gorgonia Francisco and the Bartolome Family (OLP
Parishioners).
The mission of MOM is to prepare/deliver hot meal once a month to the homeless/needy people. This
goal cannot be met without light and grace from the Spirit of God, the generous donors and devoted
volunteers who tried to practice the social teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The next MOM donation meal is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 19, 2016. For inquiries about
donations or volunteer opportunities, please contact Phuong Le at (818)993-3069 or
[email protected].
